The game

Chapter Four Kaelthar Seeing my prey walk up to me was like I was on the moon, and the tender look on her face was the icing on the cake. I knew she was heartbroken, and it was the perfect way to slid into her life flawlessly. Even if she was strong, and had been able to pick herself back up, I would still find my way to her and scatter all those defense. And it starts now. “You look really great.” I smiled at her, my mission and plan all hidden behind it. Her cheeks turned red almost immediately, she blushed. She doesn’t know what she was getting herself into, she was smiling at the devil. “Thank you.” She murmured, taking my hand gently as I led her down the stairs. The moment I led her to the main room, I felt it—the control. She had no idea what was coming for her. She moved with grace, every step a quiet surrender to the game I had carefully constructed, waiting for her to fall into it. Her trust would be her undoing, it would lead her to her destruction. Oh God! How exhilarating it’d be to watch her gnatch her teeth in pain when I unleash what I had planned on her. “Please, sit,” I murmured, gesturing to the seat before me, acting nice and formal, like the perfect man she’d need at that moment. I took mine across from her, watching as she settled into the plush chair, unaware that she was sitting at the edge of her own destruction. She was sitting face to face with the devil, one she had only seen in her nightmares. Her father, Adonis, was already seated. He looked at her with a gleam of pride, foolishly unaware of the devil in their midst. "My dear, Alpha K was the one who saved saved you that night. You owe him your life." She turned her gaze to me, her eyes soft and full of gratitude. "Thank you," she said, her voice more tender than it was. I couldn’t wait to change that tenderness to fear and pain. "I do owe you... everything." I leaned back in my chair, smiling inwardly. She was right. She did owe me her life—and soon, I would take it away from her in a much slower and painful way. Or, better yet, something even more valuable than that. "Oh, you don’t have to thank me," I said, my words laced with subtle menace hidden beneath a veneer of charm. She tilted her head, waiting, her innocence glowing like a beacon. She was so easy to manipulate, so unaware of the storm that was ready to consume her. “If there’s anything I can do,” she continued, “please, tell me. I owe you that much.” I leaned forward, narrowing my eyes as I considered her offer. It was tempting—so tempting—to tear into her then and there. But no, that would be too easy. I didn’t save her to end her that fast. I would savor this. She had to go through just the same pain as my sister. “I’ve given it some thought,” I said slowly, watching the anticipation flicker in her eyes. I rose from my seat, taking measured and calculated steps toward her. I wanted to see how far she would let me push her, how easily she would bend to my will. Standing before her with a gentle smile on my face, I stretched out my hand, my gaze never leaving hers, giving her that look that’ll make her feel special and beautiful. “There’s a ball in the kingdom in a few days,” I said, my voice smooth as silk, soft as wool. “I’d like you to come with me.” She hesitated for some minutes, her eyes locked on mine. I could see her thoughts racing, I could hear her heart pounding, the rising and falling of her chest revealing her uncertainty, battling with the pull she felt toward me. I so much loved the way she squirmed under my gaze. This would be fun! Minutes passed, with her silence hanging in the air like a thick cloud. Then, with trembling fingers, she reached out and took my hand. God! That intoxicating feeling to know I was this close to my long-awaited revenge. I was few more moves to destroying my enemy. “I’ll come,” she whispered. A wicked grin spread across my face, though I hid it behind a polite and calm smile. She had no idea what she’d just agreed to, and what I would do to her. Now, it was time to begin unraveling her. Slowly, meticulously, I would destroy her from the inside out. This was the first step—getting her to trust me, to love me, to believe I love her too, to think I care about her. Soon, she would fall so deeply into my web that there would be no escape. And when the time came, I would crush her and everything she held dear. Let the games begin.
