Chapter 4 - Guilt

2517 Words
Ivy; My heart pulses heavily within my engorged chest as I begin to feel my entire body heat up at the very thought of having him inside me. 'f**k, I need him inside me.' To feel him pounding into me at his usual relentless pace as his large hands grip steadily onto my hips, in a mere effort to hold on. I can already hear the sounds of his deep and dominant groans and my core begins to tingle with delight. “Take me.” I command, taking a step back towards the bed. “I’m here… take what’s yours.” He stares at me with what can only be described as a predatory glare. I fear he may suddenly pounce on me, as a hungry lion would its prey. His pupils have all but turned black as the side of his mouth curves upward revealing a smirk that would shame the devil himself. “Tell me you want me.” His voice is huskier than usual and I find it sexy. The back of my leg finds the edge of the bed and I use my hand to feel for the mattress while keeping my gaze fixated on him the entire time. I slowly, carefully climb backwards onto the bed as I continue our conversation. “I want you.” He shakes his head from side to side, while keeping his smirk in place. He begins to slowly stride towards me, one teasingly short step at a time. “Uh-uh… make me believe it, Ivy.” he taunts. My eyes narrow at him, but I fully intend to give in to his demands. I need this… badly! “I want you, Adomis!” Suddenly he freezes, his expression seeming to change and show unease. I swear, if I didn’t know any better, he almost looked… guilty? “Adomis?” I ask, my voice gentle so as not to startle him any further. He suddenly meets my eyes once more and before I know what’s happened, he turns on his heel. I watch in confusion as he grabs a large robe, dresses himself and then marches out through the doorway of his chambers, the door slamming shut behind him with an echoing ‘thud’ that causes me to jump. I am left sitting on the bed, completely nude and completely lost as to what I did wrong. I quickly reach out to grab the blanket and lift it up to cover myself as I attempt to gather what little dignity I have left. Before I know it, tears have begun to fill my eyes and trail down each of my cheeks as I fight to keep my lips from trembling. He left me… he just left… ‘What the f**k just happened?’ - Adomis; ‘Why can’t I get her out of my head?’ I have noticed a repeating pattern in my most recent dreams, one that baffles me to no end... Each night I see her, clear as daylight standing before me with her crystal blue eyes peering back at me. Her lips are the shade of soft pink flower petals and I could only imagine they feel just as soft. Her hair cascades like a brilliant golden waterfall over both of her shoulders and down the length of her back, dancing carelessly in the gentle breeze as she stands there, waiting... ‘Waiting… waiting for what?’ Who is this stunning woman and where did she come from? More importantly, why can I not rid her from my mind? My Golden Goddess, I have appropriately named her. The woman of my dreams. Truth be told, I may already know her, after all I don’t even remember who I am. It’s just… something about her seems very familiar, as if she and I know one another quite well. Perhaps it’s nothing but wishful thinking, who knows? I let out a long sigh as I sit up from my horizontal position and run my right hand through my thick dark hair. The flames of my fire are still burning brightly, as they were when I fell asleep hours earlier. Out here, fire is a good thing. It protects you from the nasties lurking out in the darkness. I may not remember who I am and how I got here, but I at least have enough common sense to remain vigilant out here in the open wild. Glancing down I notice the long sword sheathed to a belt, both lying on the ground beside me and instinctively reach across to pick them both up. The belt is made of some kind of thick, black and silver leather, with intricate twisting patterns sewn into it. The sheath is made of what appears to be black steel, it too specially designed and decorated with carvings of various shapes. I wonder if it means anything, or if it should. Was this sword mine? I did find it beside me when I woke, so I could only assume that were the case. My hand reaches down and grasps at the handle of the long sword, gripping onto it firmly before pulling it out with one swift movement. The scrape of its blade as the sword exits its sheath sounds and I stare at the beautiful sword I now hold in my hand. It’s incredible. I wonder how many lives have come to an end at the hand of this very blade as I slowly turn it around and continue to admire the magnificent craftsmanship. The fire’s reflection bounces off the blade. For a moment, just a moment, the sword appeared to come to life, blazing with furious fire. The sound of a shrill shriek alerts my body to instinctively move into a defensive position, crouched down low with the sword still in hand as my eyes peer around at the surrounding darkness. Once again, I feel as if I know that sound. Another shrieking cry, this time appearing closer and behind me. I instantly spin around, sword at the ready as my eyes fight to adjust to the dim lighting. Once again, nothing but darkness. My heart beats so loudly I fear whatever terrifying creature lurks out there in the shadows could hear it. My entire body begins to fill with adrenalin, tingling across my skin as my hand grips the handle of the sword tighter and tighter, until my knuckles begin to whiten. “Come on…” I whisper unknowingly… softly. Then I see it and my eyes widen. For the fraction of a second I see the large wings opening as the creature swoops in towards me. It’s glowing red eyes blaze out of the darkness and its giant jaws are open to reveal rows of triangular razor sharp teeth, bared and prepared to slice away at my flesh. This all happens within a matter of one or two seconds. The creature flies in toward me and I s***h my sword directly at it, making contact with its scaly skin and causing it to cry out in pain as it flies back into the darkness. I look down at the ground and see the purple liquid trailing along the ground. The creature’s blood. This means that I have wounded it. I grab a nearby stick and dip the end into the fire, creating a torch for myself. After gathering all of my belongings and preparing myself once more, I begin to venture off into the darkness after it. It appears the chase is on. - Ronaar; ‘What the hell is wrong with me?’ Ivy, the woman of my dreams seduces me and what do I do… I run away? Me, the almighty Prince Ronaar runs from the likes of a woman? And not just any woman… it’s Ivy! What in the hell has come over me? I stand at the railing of one of the private balconies located on the top floor of the castle, wearing nothing but the robe I grabbed on my way out earlier. The cold night wind is freezing and I fight the urge to retreat back inside. ‘I should be in her arms right now.’ My eyes close for a moment as I lower my head and try to take it all in. Adomis is my enemy. So why would I possibly feel any sort of guilt for sleeping with Ivy? She is mine after all, my Moon Princess. Ivy was destined to bond with me and become my Queen. It has been foretold for many years now. So why do I feel uncertain about this? It is in that moment that I hear a voice speak up from behind me and I freeze. “Adomis. What brings you out here at this hour?” I turn around and see the Mage staring back at me from the other side of the balcony. He is fortunate enough to be a little more dressed than I am. “Zarkin.” I greet him with a nod of my head. “I could say the same for you.” Zarkin smiles at me before closing the gap between us. He strides across to come and stand beside me at the edge of the balcony as he continues our conversation. “I’m not one for sleep, I’m afraid. There are hardly enough hours in a day to waste with something so trivial.” He is beside me now, with both his hands behind his back. “Quite.” I reply smugly. “I must say, it’s rather cold to be standing out here dressed like that, my lord.” He gestures toward my robe with his chin as a grin forms slowly across his face. “Is everything… alright?” “Of course it is.” I reply a little too quickly, but quickly regain my composure and straighten my stance as I turn to stare out at the surroundings before us. “I needed a moment… to think.” I lie. Zarkin purses his lips, almost knowingly as he nods his head. “Is it anything I can help with?” he enquires once more. I frown at such a ridiculous suggestion. “No. I’m afraid not.” I reply bluntly. “This is something I must handle on my own.” “I understand.” Zarkin agrees with a nod of his head. A moment of silence is shared between the two of us before he speaks once more. This time the topic of our conversation has changed to something a little more particular. “My lord, I must ask you something. When we spoke of the four amulets earlier on you told me you had no intention of collecting all four. To harness their power. I need to ask…” He hesitates before continuing on, “Have you perhaps… changed your mind?” I fight to hold back my grin from his view as I remain staring out at the night view before us. “Why would you think that?” “Because, you now have the Amethyst Amulet. You now possess two of the four.” His announcement causes my eyes to widen with intrigue and confusion as I turn to give him my undivided attention now. ‘Did he just say, I possessed two of them?’ “What are you talking about?” I question him sternly. How could he know that I have the Emerald Amulet? Does he know who I truly am? I am about to put this fool out of his misery, merely for knowing too much when I hear what he tells me next. “You have two amulets, remember? The Amethyst one and of course, the Ruby one?” My heart almost ceases beating for a second or two. ‘The Ruby Amulet?’ The one I have been searching for, for many years and so far, have no leads on its whereabouts? That very amulet? “I have the Ruby Amulet?” I mean for it to sound like a statement, but it comes out as a question and causes Zarkin to frown with confusion. “Yes sire. Remember, you showed it to me before we went to rescue Ivy from Ronaar?” I act as if I have just remembered and smile as I nod my head. “Of course, how could I forget something so vital. Yes, I now have two of the four.” I lay it on thick with my performance. “But I can assure you Zarkin, I have no intention of claiming ultimate power by obtaining the others. You can rest easy.” I place my hand onto his shoulder in a friendly manner now, to further add to my performance. By his expression he appears to buy my lie. I can only hope he does not continue to pry into my intended plot or spread news of this to anyone else. The easiest thing would be to kill him right here and now, but I know too many people would miss him. Ivy included. With a nod of his head, Zarkin smiles back at me. “Thank you for your honesty, sire. Good night.” With that he turns and begins to make his way back towards the doorway leading inside the castle. I am feeling proud of my performance until I hear his voice speaking once again. “Oh, and one more thing my lord.” he announces, turning back around to face me again. I meet his gaze. Something has changed in his posture now as he looks across the length of the balcony at me. “The Ruby Amulet has returned from being cleaned. Where exactly would you like it delivered?” I have to hold in my sheer excitement at hearing such incredible news and I force back a smile. “Have it delivered to me immediately, in my chambers, is that understood?” I command. Zarkin’s expression is void of emotion as he nods his head slowly before turning around and marching off through the doorway. I have little time to focus on him, I am too excited about being hand-delivered the second of the four amulets. This is proving to be all too easy! - Zarkin; ‘Oh f**k! Oh f**k! Oh f**k!’ I struggle to maintain my composure and hold my fear at bay while exiting the balcony and disappearing back down the maze of corridors located in the castle. I walk at a fast stride now as I fear for my very life. The knowledge I now possess could possibly mean my death and I am wise enough to know it. That man out on the balcony does not yet know it, but I tricked him into admitting more than he cared to reveal at the time. My lie about the Ruby Amulet pretty much sealed any suspicions I had in place. Now I need to get to work with figuring out who he really is. Yes, that’s right… That man I just spoke with out on the balcony is NOT my Overlord Adomis… Which means only one thing; he’s an imposter!
