Chapter 8 In some ways, Alain had made Richard’s job harder. The Operations Department, which was responsible for maintaining agents in the field, used to have a proprietary interest in its telepaths. Not only did it train them and give them their assignments, but it also tested them periodically for the dreaded telepause. If any agents showed signs of the illness, Ops personnel took care of them in their own inimitable style. It was a casually-run business.
