She really was a barn sour brat. So Isabel slowed her down to a trot, and the further from the others they got, the more the little filly misbehaved thinking she’d get to return to the barn. Remembering what the stable lads said about the mare being fairly green yet, Isabel began to work with her, forcing the mare to think about where she would find comfort and rest. Drawing up the reins, she used her crop to get the filly to move forward with the others. Isabel kept them to the rear of the group, and as they cantered Isabel began to work the horse, asking the filly to occasionally change her gait, and intermittently ride in various sized circles and half circles, then would go forward as though weaving but without poles, all at random, not a set pattern.
