Chapter 10

Otis's POV Marsh's instruction was very detailed and I was able to learn a lot from it, and the feeling of improving my fighting skills made me feel very happy, but just then I saw Conrad approaching us. Conrad was the most prominent man compared to these strong wolves in the training ground, he was tall, strong, and handsome, and the sun made his brilliant blonde hair look even more brilliant. The aura he exuded as he approached us made me turn my head and keep looking at him. What is he doing here? He... Is he here to see the results of my training? I couldn't help but shake my head at the thought. How could Conrad have come to pay attention to me on purpose? He was so disgusted with my weakness. Marsh was called over to him and they seemed to be talking about something. I was a little too far away from them to be able to discern what they were saying. "Just instruct her with your words. Don't touch her. I'm afraid you'll be influenced by her and become a coward." Conrad's words reached my ears. He seemed so annoyed when he said it that even the volume of his low voice was raised a bit, enough for me to hear it. He was still disgusted with me. His voice kept repeating in my head, and the words were saved to keep replaying in my mind. He must have found a slave like me disgusting. That must be the case, I'm just too weak now. I hung my head. I felt so sad that I was almost out of the mood to continue training. "What's wrong with you, Otis? You look sad." Marsh approached me with concern, "Did you hear what Conrad just said? Oh, don't mind those! Because of his past, Conrad has been like that since he was a kid, he just said that he wants you to become stronger." "No. I'm not sad because of this, I'm just... Just thinking about other sad things." I shook my head and denied it in a hurry. I didn't want the others to find out how I was feeling, and the most important thing for me now was revenge, I couldn't be affected by these distracting thoughts. "Do not think too much, forget about those things." Marsh paused for a moment as he said this. "There is a very beautiful forest outside our Pack. I go running there when I'm in a bad mood. Wanna go and have a look?" I felt much better after hearing Marsh's reassurance, and his gentle gaze left me with no way to refuse, so I nodded. The sky was gradually becoming dark. I followed Marsh's footsteps running freely in the forest. The breeze blew his scent into my nostrils, a scent I had never received before, but I didn't resist. I looked up at the sky, the mountains surrounded the forest, and the infinite starry sky overhead was scattered with countless stars. Occasionally I would see some glowing fireflies in the bushes, and we would catch them and observe them for a moment before releasing them, their pleasant chirping echoing in our ears. The scent of the forest almost sent me away from the day's exhaustion, and the fragrant smell of the earth rushed into my nostrils and blew through my body with the evening wind. I felt an overwhelming sense of well-being throughout my body. It was so comfortable! I almost forgot all about my body and heart in nature and became a part of the forest. Afterward, we sat on a broken stake to rest. It was a stump left after an old tree broke, and the stump was huge. Marsh sat very close to me, almost right next to me. "Do you like the feeling of running through the forest, Otis?" Marsh asked me. "I do. The feeling of running in the forest makes me forget all my worries. I love nature and the forest." I took a deep breath of the scent inside the forest. It's not often that I'm surrounded by such a fine male, so the feeling of staying with Marsh was new to me. He smiled and pointed his finger ahead, "This forest is all our pack's territory. It's very wide and there's a huge area ahead of us, even if we ran all day we'd still be within the boundaries of this forest." "Wow! Is it that big?" "It wasn't this big before, and the Alpha led us to expand our territory." I was silent thinking about Conrad. After a moment, Marsh's joy-filled accent resumed next to my ear. "Do you know who your mate is, Otis?" mate? I turned my head to look at him, and Marsh looked at me. He stared at me, his eyes focused on me, they were filled with some strange emotion I couldn't identify, I suddenly found out that he was pretty handsome, not the way Conrad did, but still quite impressive. "Have you met your MATE, Otis?" The knot in his throat rolled downward as he spoke, looking sexy. His voice was so close to mine that the space was suddenly filled with his testosterone, making me lose my concentration and start blushing unconsciously. Damn it! Why am I blushing? I tried to calmly shake my head. "I... I don't know. I'm days away from adulthood, and right now I can't feel MATE." I pretended to respond to him in a relaxed manner. He smiled again, his mouth wide open to reveal his white teeth. Then he stood up from the stake and took one of my wrists in the palm of his powerful hand. "We have a better view ahead. I suppose you haven't had enough running, have you?" I felt the warmth of his skin. An inexplicable feeling emerged in my heart and somehow I agreed to his request. "Of course not!" I followed him and stood up and walked towards the front, following the direction of the moon into the depths of the forest. After crossing the forest, Marsh and I reentered the training ground. "Have you ever actually seen a fight between warriors?" Marsh's words piqued my interest. I was always curious about real battles. "No. I just saw some simple training on the training ground." "There will be a fight tonight. On this day of every week, it is the day they show the strength belonging to real warriors. I'll show you, I think you can learn their fighting skills." Marsh glanced toward me. There seemed to be some anticipation in his eyes, and his brown pupils glowed warmly like honey in the light overhead. "That's great! Thank you so much for telling me this news, Marsh, it means a lot to me!" I nodded excitedly. After we became friends, Marsh let me call him by his first name instead of his title, and I was very happy to have a friend like him. I already felt the gap between me and those young wolves. Since I have a gap with all these wolves who are training to be a warrior, the skills of those real warriors naturally become more precious to me. This is a very good opportunity for me to become stronger. We laughed as we talked and returned to the training ground. It was evening, but the training ground was already packed with people. Their voices were as noisy as boiling water. I looked towards the central platform, two men with unusually tall bodies were standing on the platform. They stared at each other, their eyes filled with a powerful will to fight. Soon these two warriors had fought together, and the sound of their attacks was able to reach my ears, and the noisy crowd could not drown these sounds. It was hard for me to imagine just how strong they were. Each punch they struck at the enemy was so fast that it left only a shadow in my vision, and the angle of each attack eluded me. It was at this moment that I realized that when faced with a real fighter, even if my dodging skills were great, I simply didn't know how to defend against their attacks. "When am I going to be able to be as good as these warriors?" I simply couldn't suppress my excitement and couldn't help but speak up. "You can do it. You have a great talent, you just haven't experienced the exercise." Marsh said with a smile, his warm hand on my shoulder, I could feel his encouragement from this action. One of the fighters seemed to have trumped his opponent in skill, and the winner emerged among the two fighters in the ring. This was just wonderful! Suddenly I saw a familiar figure step into the ring. He looked down at the whole audience with his ocean-like blue eyes. "Does anyone want to challenge me?"
