Today is my eighteenth birthday, which means, I get my wolf. "Hello?" I say in my mind. "Hello, my dear Zadie, my name is Akira" she said in the sweetest voice I have ever heard, I could listen to her all day.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Akira." "The pleasure is mine." She replied before I felt her disappearing to the back of my mind.
My alarm started blaring on the nightstand next to my bed, and with a smile, I smacked it to turn it off.
In the bed right next to mine, Skyler stirs to the sound of the alarm. After groaning and wiping the sleep from her eyes, she sits up in bed. "Happy Birthday!" Skyler squealed, after finally realizing what day it is, before coming over to give me a hug.
She hooked her arm in mine before we both made our way to the bathroom to start getting ready for school together. After brushing my teeth and braiding my hair, I walked back to the bedroom to find Skyler standing next to my bed with an outfit laid out for me.
She always picks out the best outfits. Today, she had a jean jacket and a red, floral print dress laid out that I knew flattered my figure, as it hugged my breasts and waist before falling loosely to mid-thigh.
But she also made sure to pick something to hide the fresh bruises on my arms. And today I had some good-sized ones from my run in with Dave last night. I guess I didn't make dinner the way he wanted, so he dragged me back to the kitchen to make it again. Only, it was exactly how I made it the first time. Usually it wouldn't have been so bad, but he was drunk, and grabbed me harder than normal, leaving the perfect bruises where his fingers dug in.
It may have originally been Skyler's dress, but we shared everything at this point, and she knew it was my favorite, so it made the perfect birthday outfit. Taking the clothing with a smile on my face, I quickly got dressed and slid my boots on before we headed downstairs to make Dave's breakfast.
We made his scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon like we do every morning. By the time we were done, all we had time for was to grab some toast and head out the door to school, making the fifteen-minute walk to campus.
Approaching the school, I could see my boyfriend, Callum, standing there waiting for me, like he does every day. Other than Skyler, he's the only good thing in my life. With his dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and chiseled features, he gave me butterflies whenever I saw him.
Once he spotted me, he started making his way towards us, giving me a soft peck on the lips when our paths finally collided. "Happy Birthday," he seductively whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my spine. Slowing, he backed away with a smile on his face, then he took my hand in his to lead me inside the school.
"Let me take you to dinner tonight, just the two of us." he stated, cutting me off before I could protest. "I already talked to Skyler. She'll cover for you with Dave." Turning to Skyler across the hall, she winked at me. I just smiled and agreed. Callum gave me another quick kiss before we separated to walk to our first classes of the day.
When lunch rolled around, I entered the cafeteria with Skyler. After getting our lunches, we went towards our usual table. Callum was sitting with Skyler's boyfriend, Wren, and some of the other baseball players.
That was one of the things that drew me to Callum. He may have been a jock and super popular, but he never treated me differently, just because I lived in foster care. I may not have had all the cool clothes, or a lot of clothes for that matter, but he never treated me any less like a lot of other people in our school.
When we got close, everyone scooted around to make room for us. All the guys were hyped up and talking about their upcoming district game against our rival school. This is the best season our school has had in a long time, so it was a pretty big deal around here.
"Hey, Happy Birthday Zadie. Let's celebrate your birthday Friday night after our win against the Mustangs," Wren said as the guys all got hyped up again. I giggled at their enthusiasm and replied, "Sure." The truth is, I loved watching them play. Something about those tight baseball pants turned me on. Shaking the thought out of my head, I finished my lunch as I listened to the guys go on about the game.
Callum gave me a kiss on the cheek before we parted for the last classes of the day. Thankfully, the last three periods went by fast before I met Skyler back at our lockers, grabbing the books I needed to take home.
I turned to see Callum walking towards me dressed for practice. "Pick you up at seven," he said, before placing a quick kiss on my lips before heading out the door to the field. I had some homework to get done before he picked me up, anyway.
Walking home, thoughts started to swirl in my head as Skyler was rambling on about her day. I don't hear a word she says as I'm thinking about Callum and how cryptic he's been all day about what he has planned for us for dinner.
Leaving me flirty messages in my locker and whispering dirty things in my ear as we passed each other in the hallways, which has been super hot, but also a little unnerving. Callum knows of the bruises, but I usually try to make an excuse for them. I'm pretty sure he knows they are from Dave though. I know for a fact he doesn't know of the nighttime horrors I endure when Dave "sneaks" into the room.
He had made a point to make sure it was just the two of us tonight, which usually, we double-date with Wren and Skyler. Was tonight the night he was going to try to go further with me? He's had plenty of girlfriends, but he's my first boyfriend, and for good reason.
He's been patient with me so far, knowing I wasn't ready to go further, as we'd only kissed, but our make-out sessions keep getting steamier and steamier, it's been hard to stop. But it's not like we've really had the opportunity to go further anyway. Which I'm kind of thankful for, because I don't think I'm ready to go further with him.
Am I?
