Chapter 9

Casey’s P.O.V

  We drove to the Olive Garden, but when we got there we found out it would take at least three hours for a table or booth to become available, so we left and went to an Italian restaurant instead. We got seated just five minutes after we arrived and ordered our food and a couple of drinks. We talked while we waited for our food and got to know each other a bit better. We joked as we ate and drank our drinks, but I had so many questions that I wanted to ask him. Did he have a mate before me? Has he ever had a girlfriend before or would I be his first? 

  “I know there are some things you have on your mind, so why don’t you tell me about them, maybe I can help.” Kirk said, as if reading my mind. Well, I guess it's now or never.

  “Have you ever had a mate or girlfriend before?” I asked, curious as to know if he would tell me.

  “I’ve never had a mate before, but I admit I’ve had plenty of girlfriends. It was never anything serious, it was just s*x and dates, but when I got my job they all went their own way. I take my job seriously because Luna Star and Alpha National chose me and I don’t want to let them down. I hope you don’t mind but I have told them that I have found my mate now. They hated that I stayed away for so long and would call it my adventure, but to me it was never an adventure. I was working, killing rogues that were looking for a way to get onto our territory.” Kirk honestly replied and I nodded. I was a little upset about him having girlfriends before me, but then again I had a mate before him and neither of us were virgins, so I couldn’t really be hurt by that. He carried on telling me about himself and then he started telling me about his parents.

  “They are still alive and they were also guards, but they stay in the woods. They are loners, but they are members of the pack, which is weird, but they are my parents and I love them.” Kirk said, making me smile. I loved that he was close to his parents and that he still had them. 

  “So, tell me about you. Where are your parents? Have you had any boyfriends apart from your mate? Star already told me a little about your first mate and what he did, but I didn’t ask any questions because it was your story to tell.” Kirk said and my smile slightly faded. I knew he would also have questions and I was ready to answer them, no matter how hard it would be.

  “Well, you already know about my first mate and how he only wanted power. He didn’t want me and he didn’t want a love like no other, he didn’t want a mate or a family, even his sister warned him, but he just shook it off and ignored her. She took over his pack when he died and I heard from her the other day. Her and the pack are doing good, doing better. My parents sadly got killed in a war that he caused when no one was ready. I was upset that they died, but I was thankful that they died fast and didn’t suffer. I have never had any boyfriends, only a mate.” I replied and he nodded. 

  “There is something I have to tell you and I know you’re not going to like it, but when I ran away from you that night I went to the pond and I was sitting there in my wolf form, feeling sorry for myself when out of nowhere I heard a growl. I turned around to see who it was and I was met with big red eyes. He growled at me saying the words mate and it scared me so bad that I ran back here. I pleaded with Star to make me an official member of the pack and told her why. I told her what he looked like and she agreed. National walked in and I took the oath in her office, then we went outside and did the ceremony with her cutting my palm and letting my blood drip onto the ground, making me a member of the pack. This way if the deranged whatever he is tries to take me, then he won’t be able to. It will have to be my decision to leave and that is never going to happen. Kirk, he scares the hell out of me. He smelled of rotten eggs, blood and death.” I said, but Kirk didn’t say anything for a few minutes. He looked at me with a blank face and I knew that he was thinking hard about something, but I had no idea what it was. Was he going to reject me now that he knew I had another mate out there, even though I didn’t want him and would never accept him?

  “I know what you’re talking about or rather who you’re talking about. I have never met or seen him, but he’s a hybrid. He’s half wolf and half vampire. Casey, I promise you over my life that I will protect you. I will never let anything happen to you or let anyone take you away from me.” Kirk said, finally breaking his silence and I was so glad that he didn’t reject me. 

  “Kirk, I don’t need protection, I don’t want to be a victim and if he comes to me then I will kill him. I’ll figure out a way, but I will kill him. Anyway, let's not worry about that right now, let's worry about us. We’re on a date, getting to know each other and so far, I like what I hear and I’m liking you.” I said and Kirk chuckled.

  “I like you too and I’m sure that Alpha and Luna will be happy to hear about this.” Kirk replied, making me laugh.
