ADRIAN
I surfaced with the woman in my arms and she still wasn't waking up. I looked around for the rest of the humans but, they were nowhere to be seen because of this storm. Flipper came over and he nudged his snout a little at the woman but, she wasn't waking up.
"We've gotta get to dry land! now!"
Flipper nodded his head and then I grabbed a hold of his fin and then he swam back to shore with the woman in my arms. Once the storm died down, I felt my fins one the sand and then my tail turned into legs. I picked up the woman in my arms and then Flipper stayed where he was.
"Don't worry buddy, I got it from here, you go and check up on your family and make sure they're safe."
"Okay! I'll be back to check up on her once the storm dies down!"
Flipper told me before diving back into the water. I placed the woman on the soft sand and then I checked to see if she was breathing but, she wasn't for a moment. I remembered a trick I learnt from one of the humans I think they called it CPR. I pressed my hands on her chest and I kept pushing and pushing until eventually, she spat out the water she swallowed. The woman turned onto her side and she was coughing and wheezing after coughing out so much seawater. The woman panted a little and then I asked her.
"Miss? are you all right?"
The woman looked at me for a moment before closing her eyes again and I noticed she was beginning to shiver a little. I touched her skin and she felt cold.
"Not good, she's getting cold."
I picked her up in my arms and then I headed to the temple. Once I got there, some of my people were shocked when they saw a human in my arms but, I didn't have time to let it bother me or feel the wrath of my father right now because she needed help. I got to the healer's room where Lily was.
"Lily! I need your help!"
"Adrian?! what are you doing?! you know humans aren't allowed here and we're forbidden to talk to one!"
"I know but, this one was in trouble. There was a storm, their boat capsized and she was in trouble. If I hadn't rescued her from the Tiger sharks she would have been fish food right now. Besides, she needs help and no, I didn't see any other humans."
"I see, lie her on the bed and I'll see what I can do."
I placed the woman on the bed and then I left Lily to work her magic. Lily examined her body and she also checked the injury on her ankle where she got caught on the rope.
"Well, I can tell you the good news, aside from being caught on the rope, she fine, she just needs some sleep."
"Thank goodness."
"But, what are you gonna tell your father? he's gonna come in here in 3...2...1 and ..."
Suddenly, the doors burst open and there he was, my father, King Jasper the ruler of the ocean. He glared at the woman and he said to me.
"Son, what is the meaning of this?! you know full well we're not allowed to be near humans or talk to them!"
"I'm sorry, please forgive me, Father but, I had no choice. She was in trouble, there was a storm and-"
"SILENCE!!" My father yelled and then he glared at the woman.
"As soon as she wakes up she's out of here."
"But, how will she get off the island? her boat was destroyed and her friends aren't with her either."
Father lost that angry look and then I said to him.
"Look, I'll get my friends to look for her father or any of the crew who survived the storm and when I do, I'll get them back to the mainland, I promise."
Father thought for a moment and then he sighed in defeat.
"All right fine but, make sure she keeps quiet about us and the island. Understand?"
"Yes sir," I spoke with a smile on my face.
I watched my father leave the room and then Lily and I sighed in relief.
"Oh boy, that was scary."
"Tell me about it," Lily said to me.
Just then, we heard groaning from the woman and then Lily said to me.
"She's waking up!"
ARIEL
I groaned a little after feeling groggy and I thought I had died but, I'm still alive. Just then, I smelt something gross near my nose and I gagged a little before turning my head away from the awful smell. I opened my eyes and I noticed that I was in a room that was made from stone and I also saw two people. One had raven black hair while the other has fire-red hair.
"Miss, are you all right?" The woman asked me and I slowly nodded my head.
"I think so...what happened and where am I?"
"You don't remember? you were caught in a bad storm and you nearly drowned."
I recalled those events and then I asked them.
"Did you see anyone else with me?"
The man shook his head for a no.
"I'm sorry, by the time we surfaced there was no one in sight. My guess is, they may have drifted away from the spot where your boat sank."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, was my dad and the rest of the crew still alive or have they capsized and drowned too? I laid back down on the bed and then the man asked me.
"Are you okay?"
"No, I'm all alone and I have no idea where my father is or if he's still alive..."
"Don't worry, I've got friends looking for him as we speak."
"Really? thank you, um..."
"Adrian."
"Ariel."
I told my name to him. Adrian smiled at me and he then said to me.
"Well then, Ariel, get some rest a bit longer and once you're feeling better I'll get you something to eat and show you around the place."
I nodded my head and then I noticed that he and the woman have strange colours on their legs.
"Hey, can I ask you something, why are your legs like that? do you have some kind of infection?"
"No, we were born this way because we're merpeople."
My eyes widen in shock when he said this. Have I found the very people who were said to be folklore or a myth?
