“Prince Samuel, it was a mistake I swear, I'm so sorry and it will never happen again" I kept on stuttering, what the hell was wrong with me? Why was my clumsiness such a curse? I thought, hoping he will take pity on me, I had no money to pay for the damages, I already spend all my saving on my dress although I knew it wouldn’t have been enough anyway.
“Stop apologizing little one, I already forgive you. Go freshen up, the dance is coming up next," he said smiling, and I was surprised by his words. I thought he was going to scold me for destroying his party.
“You want to dance with me?" yes I was shocked, so I had to ask twice just to make sure I didn’t want to embarrass myself twice in one day.
“Yes, who wouldn’t want to dance with a beauty like you?” he said, making me blush. I got up, fixed my already wet dress and rushed to the powder room.
I wasn’t even a minute inside the powder room when the door opened. It was Jen, I should have known, she saw the embarrassing scene.
“What did the prince say?" was the first thing that came out of her mouth. She didn’t ask if I was okay, I fell on my ass for God’s sake.
“I'm alright Jen, and my ass is not sore at all," I said glaring at her.
“Yay! you will live. Now, what did the prince say to you?"
“He asked me to dance with him" we both squealed like the high school girls we were.
“He also called me a beauty, can you believe that the prince thinks I'm beautiful?”
“Omg, omg you slut, you’ve been here for what, an hour? And you’re already on the prince’s radar, you lucky b***h” she said, giggling and I joined her.
“It’s not my fault I look sexy falling on my ass" I sassed, making us laugh even more.
“And you looked elegant doing it," she said while we were still laughing. Jen and I were friends forever, she lived next door and we were around each other twenty-four seven, so she got my craziness.
“Don’t flatter me, peasant” I said, making us laugh even more. Looking at ourselves in the mirror I manage to fix my dress, then my makeup. When we finally walked out, there was one of the palace guards by the door wearing a black suit, glasses, an earpiece placed perfectly on his ear and his hands behind his back
“Miss Adams, the prince asks you to join him at his table," the guard said.
“Say what?" I shouted.
“The prince wants you to join him on his royal table, silly" Jen repeated like I didn’t hear the man the first time he said it, because I did. I was shocked since their table was for royalty, not a peasant like me.
“I heard him the first time genius, but why? I said rolling my eyes at Jen, “I don’t want to embarrass myself again in front of him"
“Go have fun, he doesn’t bite, but if he did, I suggest you let him," Jen said, leaving me with the guard.
“Miss, it would be in your best interest not to upset the prince” he said which was true, I already broke his china, that’s the least I could do. I went to the table full of royalties following the guards behind, and praying that I didn’t fall at how nervous I was.
He stood up the moment he saw me smiling, and pulled a chair for me. I muttered a thanks, and sat down next to him. I felt everyone’s eyes on me in the big hall, making me turn red. I was not used to so many eyes on me, even though other girls were only glaring at me, but his family carried on like I was not even there in the first place.
“So, Michaela what do you do?"
“You know my name?" I asked, surprised. Yes, I was an i***t. I had a name tag but he made me nervous.
‘Name tag" he smiled, and I blushed even more in embarrassment.
“I'm still in high school" I mumbled, making him smirk. Those intense grey eyes looking straight at me were intimidating.
“Wow, still that young, yet so beautiful. So, what do you aspire to be?"
Okay, prince Samuel was handsome and all, but I was starting to get bored out of my mind, and the daggers the other girls were throwing at me didn’t help at all. Now I missed the Candy Crush that made me hide from the world, but as my mother taught me, to be polite and not to take my phone out while I'm having a conversation with someone.
“A lawyer, just like my late father," I said proudly. My father was a good lawyer before he died, and I want to be just like him and fight for people's right in the white tower.
“That’s great. I know all this might be boring but what can one do? I'm just a prince, but I promise your life will never be boring with me around”
“Meaning?" I said, praying so hard that he was not saying what I was thinking. Please, lord.
“I like you, Michaela. Unlike all the girls here, you're not trying too hard, you're not fake, and I like that about you. The moment I laid my eyes on you, I knew you were the one"
My heart started beating fast. I couldn’t breathe, this was all too much. All I could think was no, no, no and no, this can't be happening to me. I'm only eighteen and in high school, I was not ready for all of this. I still had to graduate high school for heaven’s sake.
He went on his knees in front of me, and everybody in the room stood up to look at us.
“MICHAELA ADAMS, would you make me the happiest man in the white tower, and be my wife?" he was holding a black velvet box with a round royal diamond. One that I only saw in newspapers and envied, and I almost fainted at the sight of it. This was really happening.
I stood there, staring at him and the ring. The room was quiet, they were waiting for an answer, but I was shocked and for the first few minutes I said nothing.
The atmosphere became tense. I blinked, hoping all this will be just a school girl’s dream, and I would wake up. But it was not, it was my reality. I was nothing special, so why me? It kept ringing in my head over and over again, but I still couldn't respond to him, my mouth was dry.
“Say yes, you b.i.a.t.c.h!” I heard Jen say from across the room, breaking my haze and I laughed at her craziness. She didn’t care that she was in front of the royals, but I did as she said smiling.
“Yes, I will marry you"
The whole room sighed I think, and Samuel gave me the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. He slid the ring on my finger, and that was the worst mistake I made in my entire life. I wish I could blame Jen, but at the end of the day, it was my decision. I was the one who said yes.
