SAMMY
Gentry lay with his head in my lap. He held Grayson up in the air, swaddled tightly. He was looking down at his dad with his adorable baby smile, his chubby cheeks pink and shiny. I ran my fingers through Gentry’s soft blonde hair, teasing his scalp lovingly.
Gentry lifted Grayson up and down, gently kissing his nose every time he lowered him. I watched them happily, enjoying a stress-free moment with my little family. I hoped Gentry wanted more kids. I was nervous at first about this family dynamic, but now that we have arrived, I can’t imagine my future any other way. I don’t want Grayson to be an only child like I was.
“So, what do you think about Remi and the twin’s news?” Gentry asked.
I laughed softly. Remi looked terrified and nauseous as the former Luna descended upon her in excitement. I wish I had a picture of the moment. “They are going to have their hands full,” I said. “Grayson will have two friends his age, though.”
“He will,” Gentry agreed. “I think Remi is terrified.”
“I can positively say after having one, the idea of having two at once is conflicting,” I said, pursing my lips. Gentry laughed.
“Why is that?”
“Well, you get the pregnancy part is done once instead of twice, which is probably preferable. Then you have to consider she will get twice as big because of the two babies, probably making her more uncomfortable than with one baby. Then there is going through the birthing process twice. The upside there is only having to recover from it once. It’s a very conflicting scenario,” I explained.
Gentry was quiet for a minute. He settled Grayson over his chest, who was starting to look drowsy. His eyes came up to me. “You want more, right?” he asked. I smiled down at him, nodding my head. “Okay. Twins don’t run in my family, so I think you’re safe there.”
I rolled my eyes at him before leaning down and kissing him upside down. “Are you sure your sister and mom don’t mind watching Grayson while I’m in my shop?” I asked him.
“No,” he smiled. “They like it. I think Pip hopes Remi will have her help with theirs, too. Well, that is when she finds out there are two instead of one.”
“How do you think she is going to take that?” I asked.
“She is going to be mad she is the last to know,” he laughed. “It’s her own fault for not coming to the packhouse tonight. Remi probably would have told her before everyone else.”
“At least Remi doesn’t have to worry about her babies’ futures,” I sighed, looking at Grayson, who was losing the battle to keep his eyes open.
“Grayson will be fine whether he is a witch or were. He has us, and we love him no matter what,” Gentry reassured me. “Plus, only the first child of the Alpha has their future laid out for them. With the way Calder and Cullen are about Remi, this will not be the only children they have.”
“Do you care if Grayson has magic?” I asked.
“Nope,” Gentry said. “I just want him to be happy and healthy.”
I combed my nails along Gentry’s scalp, eliciting a soft groan from him. “Now that the baby is asleep, what does my hot witch want to do?” he asked with his eyes closed, enjoying my touch.
“Hmmmm,” I hummed. I tried to let myself relax and enjoy the moment with my mate. “I don’t know.”
“I have a couple of ideas,” Gentry smiled up at me with his eyes still closed.
I let out a small laugh, but when I did, I could feel a small jolt of magic leave my fingers. Gentry was hit, causing him to jerk violently.
Horror took over my features. I jumped up, and he sat up, holding our son to him in one hand and rubbing his scalp with the other. “What was that?” he asked, but I didn’t hang around as I felt more energy pulsing to my fingertips.
I dashed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. “Sam, what is going on?” I could hear Gentry call from the other side of the door.
I leaned against it, using my weight to keep Gentry out. I clenched my fists and closed my eyes, concentrating on getting the magic under control. I could feel the energy pushing against me, down the tightened muscles of my arms and hands, looking for release.
Our bathroom had a singular window near the ceiling that helped to let in light. I moved away from the door. I wasn’t going to be able to keep it in me; it was too great of a force. I stood in the middle of the bathroom and raised my fists in the air, pointing to the window. I could fix the glass later, but the window was the safest place to let the energy loose.
I took a deep breath and opened my hands, allowing myself to let go. The magic burst from me again, this time much harder than what had hit Gentry. I took a step back from the unexpected force only to fall right into Gentry’s arms.
The magic hit the glass of the window, cascading broken bits onto the floor and shelves below the window. I breathed heavily for a minute as the magic inside of me calmed. Gentry didn’t move, supporting me from behind.
Finally, he asked, “Sam, what was that?”
I swallowed hard. I was found out; I couldn’t hide this from him anymore. “Are you hurt?” I asked.
He pushed me up to stand on my own feet again and turned me around to face him. “I’m okay; it just felt like a little shock. But what was that? I thought the outbursts were supposed to subside after Grayson was born.”
I looked away from him, feeling ashamed of my lack of control. “I don’t know what’s going on,” I admitted.
Gentry put his hands on either side of my arms. “Hey, talk to me,” he said, concerned. “This isn’t you. You’re confident and cocky about your magic. Talk to me.”
I sighed. “I don’t know. I thought the outbursts and control slips were because of the pregnancy. They haven’t stopped, though. And they just randomly happen. I never know when all of a sudden my hands are going to be bursting with power.”
“Is this why you are disappearing to your shop all the time?” he asked gently. I nodded my head. Gentry pulled me tight to him, hugging me firmly. “Can I help you figure this out? I want you to be happy.”
“I just don’t want to hurt anyone or make the Council think you have a bad witch as a mate,” I whispered.
“f**k the Council,” he said. “I just want you to be okay.”
REMI
Dinner was exhausting. As soon as the twins happily proclaimed they impregnated me with not one but two pups, everyone had a reaction. Carson laughed but also gave me a sympathetic look while Elias looked mildly disgusted as usual. I am pretty sure the thought of children and their creation is disturbing for him. Gentry happily congratulated us while Sammy looked at us skeptically. Benson and Cassius hugged before Cassius grabbed his sons. He was delighted, and comments about strong Alpha couplings producing many strong pups were thrown around.
Nicole was a whole different story. She was stunned into silence, but only for a brief moment. She was bursting with joy when she finally reacted. The rest of the night was her making plans to update all the baby shower ideas and how we could fix up the Alpha wing for our new family. Sometimes, I wondered if she had wanted more children than her three boys but never got the opportunity with Cassius.
Whatever was the case, I knew our little twin Alpha pups were very loved, even if I was a slightly frightened mother at this point.
My twins couldn’t keep their hands off me either. I barely made it ten seconds down the hall after escorting Cassius and Nicole out before Calder scooped me right up. He ignored my protests and carried me right to our room with Cullen on his heels.
When we got inside, Calder went straight to the bed and set me down, but he was crawling on the bed with me before I could move. The bed dipped behind, and Cullen joined us. I had zero opportunity to think or react before their mouths and hands descended.
“Mmmm, guys,” I said, melting under their affection. “Calder,” I panted. “Cullen.” Their mouths were like heaven on my skin, their hands even better. But I was feeling overwhelmed and needed a minute after everything at dinner.
They ignored me, though, continuing their loving assault. I grabbed Calder’s shirt and tried to push gently against him. “Calder, Cullen,” I begged. “Please.”
Calder pulled away, looking at me with a steamy gaze, a look that would instantly soak any girl’s panties. “What’s wrong, baby?” he asked.
I sat up a little better, pulling away from Cullen. “I just need a minute,” I said, out of breath. My heart was racing, and my whole body was standing at attention for them.
Calder’s gaze softened slightly. “Is everything alright?” he asked, sitting back to give me some breathing room.
“Yea,” I said. “Today has just been a little overwhelming.”
Cullen shifted, so his legs were on either side of me. He wrapped his arms around my stomach protectively. “We’re sorry,” he muttered. “We can’t tell you how excited we are, love.”
“I know,” I said quietly. Calder and Cullen looked at each other, and I could see the worry on Calder’s face. I wanted to be excited with them, but I hadn’t gotten past the initial shock of all this.
“Just tell us what you want,” Calder said.
“We’ll make it happen,” Cullen finished for him.
“I just need a couple of minutes to relax and wrap my head around all of this,” I said quietly. I felt like I was disappointing them, which only made me feel worse.
Calder smiled tenderly. “How about a warm bath? We can wait out here,” he suggested.
“You can take as long as you need,” Cullen said.
“Okay,” I agreed. At least being alone, I could think without their distractions. I loved them with all my heart, but my head could barely focus when they were in the room. If it wasn’t one of them, it was both of them. Two mates was both a blessing and a curse.
Calder climbed off the bed and headed to our bathroom. Cullen whispered in my ear, “Can I have a kiss before you go?”
I smiled softly and nodded. I shifted down as he leaned over and captured my mouth. I knew he was holding himself back, but I could still feel his excitement and appreciation. Calder returned as Cullen let me go. Calder pulled me from the bed and set me on my feet. I appreciated their restraint as I headed to the bathroom alone.
