Chapter Four

1936 Words
REMI Cullen seemed annoyed when I came into his office. He had not been excited about this meeting since the Alpha called a week ago. The visiting Alpha would be arriving soon, so it was time for me to pull him from his office. As I slid into his office, he raised his head to look at me. The grimace on his face eased. “Hello, love,” he greeted me. “Hi,” I said, coming around his desk. He didn’t move, so I stood at his side and draped my arm over his shoulders. “The visiting Alpha should be here any time now.” “I know,” he said gruffly. I kissed his cheek, making him relax. He turned just enough to grab me and pull me into his lap as he pushed his chair away from his desk. “Cullen,” I giggled. “Let’s just stay in my office,” he said, burying his nose in my neck as one of his hands came to rest protectively over my stomach. “We can reenact last night.” “As wonderful as that sounds,” I said. “We need to take care of our responsibilities. You are one of the Alphas of the largest pack in the realm. Helping to settle disputes between smaller packs is part of the job.” Cullen wanted to pretend he wasn’t listening as he peppered butterfly soft kisses on my neck and cheek. A sharp rapping at the door, along with the smell of coffee and caramel, told me my other mate was here to collect us. “They just crossed into the pack,” Calder informed us. “They?” he asked. “I thought we were meeting with the Alpha?” “Well, there are two she-wolves with him. I guess we will find out,” Calder said. Cullen finally relented his grip on me, and I was able to turn to look at Calder properly. He looked so handsome in his business attire; it instantly made my mouth dry and my panties wet. “Table those thoughts until later, baby,” Calder laughed, smelling my reaction. “Well, I guess I know how I will be filling my afternoon,” I pouted. I didn’t expect to be in the meeting with the Alpha of Somber Plains. If he brought along guests, I would probably be entertaining them. I was secretly hoping to sneak away and get a nap. Calder and Cullen kept me up late last night with never-ending affection and attention. They made me feel much better about juggling motherhood and Luna duties. It was nice to simply spend the night wrapped in their arms. I wiggled enough to make Cullen help me to my feet. I straightened my ever-tightening clothes before pulling at Cullen to get up as well. He dutifully followed me to the door, where Calder held out his hand for me to grab. We headed downstairs to meet Gentry, who was passing baby Grayson off to his sister. “Hey guys,” Gentry greeted us. “Hi, Grayson!” I cooed, narrowing in on Pip and the baby. He smiled happily, his chubby little cheeks all rosy. His tiny fists opened and closed at Pip and me as we smiled at the little pup. “Taking him home?” I asked her. “Yep, Dad is coming to get him after dinner tonight. Grayson is going to help Aunt Pippy make some pasta tonight,” she smiled. She loved taking care of Grayson while Gentry and Sammy were busy, and she was an excellent aunt. “Come, love,” Cullen said to me. “I’ll see you later!” I told her as we headed to the front doors. Pip waved Grayson’s tiny fist at us as we left her. “See, you will be a natural,” Calder linked me. “You gravitate right to Grayson every time he is near.” I rolled my eyes and just grabbed his hand. When we stepped outside, a car was pulling up. When they came to a complete stop, a man exited the vehicle first, followed by two women. They moved automatically to either side of him before they headed our way. “Alphas,” the man said in greeting as he approached. “Alpha Remington,” Calder said. “Please, Remi,” he said, coming to a stop in front of us, holding out his hand. Calder and Cullen gave each other a look, and I had to hold back my laughter. Alpha Remington was as tall as the twins, with broad shoulders but a lean build. He had dirty blonde hair pushed back away from his forehead. His eyes were electric blue. “I don’t know if we can do that,” Gentry piped up from the other side of Calder, trying to stifle his laugh. The Alpha looked between us, confused. “I am Cullen; this is my twin Calder and our mate and Luna, Remi,” Cullen introduced us. The Alpha’s face broke out into a comical smile. “Well, it is a small realm, I guess. These are my mates and Lunas, Corin and Catelynn,” he introduced the girls at his side. They were identical, I realized. I burst out laughing, unable to hold it back now. The twin Lunas standing opposite me also started to laugh. “Two men?” the one on the left asked. I nodded my head. “CC and R, it appears,” I laughed. The men all looked between each other confused. “I think we have lots to talk about while you boys do whatever it is you Alphas do,” the twin on the right said, stepping forward with her sister. “We definitely do,” I said with a smile. I gave each of my Alphas a peck on the cheek before waving the girls inside to follow me to my office. As we stepped inside, they linked arms with me. “You can call me Catie,” one said. “And me, Cori,” the other said. “We have to know. Who is the father?” Her voice dropped down to a whisper. That made me laugh again as we headed up the stairs. “We don’t know, but it doesn’t matter much. It would be hard to determine anyway.” “Interesting,” Catie said. We made our way to my office, and I offered them a seat in the sitting area. Catie sat on the arm of the couch on one end while Cori took a seat on the other. “We have to know,” Catie started. “Everything,” Cori finished. I laughed. “Everything what?” I asked. “Two men,” Cori said. “Who are identical,” Catie continued. “And Alphas no less. You must be sore all the time,” Catie finished. The amused smile on my face only grew. “There are times where I am very much glad that we are werewolves,” I told them. Cori’s eyes widened. “I am very curious how it works in reverse, though!” Catie giggled. “It’s challenging….” she said. “That’s putting it lightly,” Cori remarked. “Remi, our Remi, seems to have a hard time managing us both,” Catie explained. “One of us is a bit more demanding than the other,” Cori said with a sideways glance at her sister. “Well, one of us should learn to ask for what she wants,” Catie said, rolling her eyes. “I sense some tension,” I said, looking between them. “There has been a lot of debate lately,” Catie clarified. “We have been mated to Remington for two years now. It took us about a year to get our Elder Council to get on board with the whole two Lunas thing.” “They wanted Remington to pick even though we were both marked,” Cori said, looking sad. Catie gave her sister a sympathetic look, and I could guess who was the preferred sister by the eyes of their Council in the situation. “That’s awful,” I said. “I know a thing or two about difficult Elder Councils. They aren’t much of a fan of mine still, and they positively detest our Beta’s mate.” “Good to know we aren’t the only ones with stupid old bags trying to tell the Alpha what to do….” Catie muttered. “Anyway, now that we are basically past that, Cori and I naturally would like to be having pups with our mate.” My eyes widened. Now I understood why they were so curious about my pregnancy. I lowered my hand away from my stomach, feeling self-conscious about it. “No, no, no!” Cori said, shaking her hands in front of her. “We think it’s amazing that you are pregnant and don’t care who the father is!” “Remington mentioned something about you all making quite the scene at the Summit a few months ago,” Catie laughed. “I’m sure you can realize the dilemma we are facing with having pups.” I nodded. “That must be so hard. Your mate would basically have to choose which one of you will be giving birth to the next Alpha of your pack,” I said. They shook their heads in unison. “He hasn’t even touched us in more than a polite manner in weeks,” Catie pouted. “Well, have you two talked about it?” I asked, looking between them. They looked at each other with reproachful looks. “We may seem perfectly in sync with each other,” Cori started. “But we are very different,” Catie said. “So you guys haven’t been able to compromise?” I clarified. They shook their heads. “I bet that is making it harder on your mate,” I observed. That ignited guilt in their faces. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean….” “No, it’s okay. It’s the truth. Remi feels bad about this, and we aren’t making it any easier on him,” Catie said. “We love him so much,” Cori continued. “We just can’t decide what the fair way to do this is.” I gave them a commiserate look. “I am sorry, that sounds so awful.” “I guess that is just one of the troubles that come with having multiple mates,” Cori sighed. “I am sure yours can be a handful. I mean, two wolves? I can’t imagine two of Remi,” Catie laughed. “Honestly, it’s just like having two versions of my favorite person,” I smiled fondly. “They are very different, like polar opposites. They love me in their own ways, though.” “That is adorable,” Catie laughed. “Are we just not going to talk about how weird this is? I mean, you’re Remi; we have a Remi. Catie and Cori. Cullen and Calder,” Cori finally said. I laughed once again. “I guess the Moon Goddess must have a sense of humor,” Catie said. “Or lacks creativity,” I giggled. “So, why are you all here? I know your mate called to meet with mine, but I never found out why.” Cori looked at Catie. “How do we even begin?” she said. “It’s about our Beta,” Catie laughed. “Thorin found his mate.”
