Snowed In

December 24th: When I Get There

I wake to find Jack isn’t in the bed.. again. I can smell food though so I’m assuming he’s in the kitchen. I see his shirt on the floor when I climb out of bed and decide to put it on. It hangs down almost to my knees.

I make my way to the kitchen stopping in my tracks when I see him. He’s only wearing sweat pants giving me a full view of his naked back. No surprise it’s just as muscular as the rest of his body. When I get a little closer I see his back is covered in scars. It was dark in the room last night so I couldn’t see as well and I suddenly wonder if his front is the same.

He turns his head seeing me stare at his scarred back. He doesn’t say anything he just turns back to the stove continuing to cook. I approach him slowly running my hands across his back. The bumps from the scar tissue on his back makes my heart contract. What has he been through?

“Are these what your nightmares are about?” I ask him hoping I’m not overstepping.

Just because he slept with me doesn’t mean he has to open up about his life to me.

“Yes” he says

I feel tears coming to my eyes. I can’t imagine the pain he’s been through. These scars are deep but not just in his skin, in his mind.

“I’m so sorry” I tell him with a choked voice

He seems surprised by my reaction. He turns to me showing me his front. It is scarred as badly as his back is. I reach my hands up and rub them across his chest and down his stomach.

He grabs my hands in his bringing them up to his lips planting a kiss on each one.

“Don’t be” he says

I can tell that’s his subtle way of dropping the conversation. I wouldn’t have pushed it any further anyway. I can suddenly see his need to isolate, his need to detach from society.

The ringing of my phone brings me back down to reality.

“It’s been ringing all morning you should probably answer it. Don’t want anyone thinking I’ve murdered you” he says with a smile

I smile back at him then leave to go see who’s been calling at morning. Of course, it’s Alex. Ugh why can’t he just take a hint and leave me alone!

“Hello” I say

“Where the f**k are you?!” He yells

“Excuse me?” I say

“Where the f**k are you Camry?!” He yells again “I know you aren’t at your family’s cabin because I have your location” he says

“I figured since you and my mom are so buddy buddy right now she would’ve told you where I am. My car slid off the road and got stuck on the way to my parents cabin and their road was completely snowed in so a man stopped to help me and has been nice enough to let me stay in his cabin until the snow melts enough to get me out.” I tell him

“You’re with a man?” He sounds offended

“That’s all you got out of that?” I say

“Well, I hope the two of you are having fun together f*****g slut” he says

“What the f**k did you just call me?!” I yell at him

“When the snow melts enough I’m going to make a little trip out there to meet your new lover boy” He says

“That would be a very big mistake on your part Alex” I say

“Wow so you aren’t even going to deny that you’re f*****g him?!” He yells

“Well, I may be a slut but I’m not a liar” I say

I don’t notice that Jack is standing behind me when Alex starts screaming at me. I didn’t have the phone on speaker but he was screaming so loud Jack could still hear it.

“YOU STUPID F*****G B***H! WAIT UNTIL I GET THERE!” Alex screams

Before I can even respond Jack grabs the phone out of my hand.

“That’s no way to talk to a woman, kid.” Jack says

“You must be who she’s f*****g” he says

“Correct” Jack says

“I have her location. As soon as the snow melts I’m coming out there” Alex says

“See you then” Jack laughs hanging up the phone

He hands it back to me. I immediately go block his number so he can’t call anymore.

“That’s who your mother wants you to be with?” He asks

“In front of them he acts like a saint and nobody believes it when I tell them how he actually is” I tell him

He doesn’t say anything he just shakes his head and points towards the kitchen.

“Breakfast is done” he says smiling at me
