Chapter 9The tent to which Jewel led Nyles was only a short distance from Kasim’s. Two burly, scimitar-bearing guards bowed, then peeled back the tent flaps to allow Jewel and Nyles to enter. The interior was every bit as indulgent as Kasim’s own tent, with the same silk topped with lush carpeting to keep out the sand, and a multitude of lanterns hanging either from rails around the walls or down from the tent top. In the centre was a large bath with a couple of thick towels on the floor beside it. Next to the towels were flannels and soaps and containers of various shapes and sizes. Further inside was a low bed, with an assortment of oil jars for his massage, and Nyles would have been tempted to skip the bath. But protocol was protocol. “Do you wish me to leave while you undress, Nyles
