“No," I said adamantly as I dragged my Aunt's hand trying to get her out of the gate. “ I'm very grateful for everything you have done for me but you cannot stay with me. I won't allow it. If you need some money, I can send you some later." I said pushing out of the gate despite her resistance.
Once she's out of the house, I head back to sleep thinking that she will be gone by the time I woke up. To my surprise, I walked down the stairs the next day to see her sitting down in the living room with Kingston's grandmother. Gasping in shock as I walked down, I moved closer to see if I was really sleeping or not.
“ Alexa, is it true that you left your Aunt outside all night? What were you thinking?" Kingston's grandmother asked staring at me as if I was the biggest disappointment in the world.
“Aunt, I thought you went back. I told you to go back. What are you doing here?" I asked trying to grab her hand once more but my Aunt easily dodged me.
" I'm not living. I don't have a place to stay." My Aunt said stubbornly making me sigh.
“This isn't my house!” I said whispering as I looked back making sure that Kingston's mother wasn't here yet. “ I already told you my condition. It's not like I don't want you to stay. Besides, there aren't enough rooms." I said.
" What are you talking about? There are a lot of spare rooms. Don't worry, I will have someone prepare a place for your Aunt. You got married and didn't invite her, imagine how sad she must be.” Kingston's grandmother said shaking her head as she left with my Aunt.
Breakfast finally gets served so all of us gather at the dining table to eat. Seeing my Aunt sitting down so close to Kingston's grandmother immediately makes me uncomfortable. I knew what she was here for. She must think I am well off now and wants to take advantage of me. Kingston's father eats breakfast with us this time which makes everything worse. I wanted to talk to King but I didn't have the time to earlier. Nevertheless, he doesn't seem the slightest bit shocked at my Aunt's appearance.
“ Mom, who is this? Is she your friend from the golf club?" Kingston's mother asked to slice oranges for Kingston's grandmother.
“No, this is Alexa's Aunt. She will be staying with us for a while so you all should get along with her. No drama while she is here please.” Kingston's grandmother said making Kingston's mother stare at me.
" Don't think I saw her at the wedding. What is she doing here now? No, let me rephrase that. What does she want? Money?" Kingston's mother asked snobbishly.
“ Mom,” King said.
“Mother," Prince said
“ Honey.” Kingston's father said trying to shut her up.
“Is that meant to be an insult? It's okay because it's the truth. I came to collect some money. But don't worry because it's not from you. I came to collect money from my niece.” My Aunt said.
“ In that case, can my parents come over too? They miss me a lot and I think it would be nice to have them over ” Victoria said making me sigh.
“ They have a huge mansion with lots of employees. What exactly are they coming here to do? Besides, we don't have enough rooms.” Prince said eyeing his wife.
“So it's okay for her Aunt to stay but my parents can't come? Why? Doesn't her Aunt have a place to stay too?” Victoria asked sulkily.
“ She doe-” Prince said.
“It's okay! Her parents can come too if they want. Everyone is welcome!” Kingston's grandmother says standing up.
After she leaves, I glare at my Aunt feeling like she was a demon that had crawled out of hell to make my life a living hell. Kingston's father stands up a few seconds later leaving the table and that makes me uncomfortable.
“Looks like the entire family is a clan of parasites." Kingston's mother says standing up a few seconds later.
Once it's just all five of us, I get up from my chair grabbing my Aunt's hand so we can go to the kitchen.
“Leave. If you think you're going to use me to suck this family dry, you're wrong. You just saw it, right? They hate me.” I said staring at her.
“That's because you allow them to. Let me tell you something. You shouldn't let them-"
" I don't care! Leave this house. Or I swear I will divorce Kingston and you will have no other option but to leave. I can't-” I said gasping in shock as my Aunt slapped me hard across my face.
The stinging sensation caused by her slap makes me start to feel a little bit dizzy. Still, I hold myself together so she doesn't see me fall.
“ You ungrateful stupid fool! You can't help me? After everything I have done for you? Go ahead and divorce him. You won't get rid of me so easily ” My Aunt said making me even more furious.
“Then what should we do to make you leave? You can't stay here.” King said gaining my attention as he entered inside.
His domineering personality and arrogance immediately showed by making him look like the arrogant wealthy son he was. Still, he was what I needed to deal with my Aunt at this point.
" Why can't I? Is there some sort of secret that you two are hiding?" my Aunt asked making King and I glance at each other.
“ What are you talking about? Why is your imagination running wild? I have a son and I am happily married. The only thing that is disturbing that peace is you. Fine, let's buy you a house. Any house you want, I will get it for you.” I said trying to convince my Aunt again.
“You fool. I am trying to help you and you don't even realize it. Do you think you can survive in a wolf's den without any weapon? No matter what you say, I am going to stay here. That's final!” My Aunt said stubbornly before leaving the kitchen.
Turning to King, both of us glare at each other before sighing. Finally, King and I make our first appearance as a couple. I was told that the company was throwing a special party for the shareholders. This was the first time I had heard of such a thing but apparently, they valued their investors a lot. I had tried to get out of coming since I was about to start my internship at their company but Kingston's grandmother refused. My face would be leaked to the company employees and that would make it hard for me to work.
“ If you feel uncomfortable after this, I can get you a place to work. My friends own some company in the field you're studying." Prince said trying to get on my good side again.
“Why would you do that? She is my wife. I can get here into any place she wants." King said.
" Don't fight with him, please,” I said whispered holding King's hand.
“I think Prince is right this time. Both of you are brothers and the VP's of the company. There is nothing wrong with him helping his sister-in-law. From tomorrow, she will start working as Prince's secretary." Kingston's grandmother said surprising everyone.
“Grandmother!" King and Victoria said at the same time as they tried to convince her.
Walking away, Kingston's grandmother walks into the party as the matriarch of the family. She was old but, she had almost every designer brand possible in her wardrobe. The rest of us follow behind smiling and waving at everyone just as we are supposed to do. After the party, I head home dead strong to gain strength for tomorrow.
“Are you saying you want to drop me at Prince's branch? Everyone knows your car.” I said looking at King.
“ I won't feel at ease if I don't do it. Allow me to drop you off so that I can be sure you're safe.” King said stubbornly.
While the both of us are going back and forth in banter, Prince arrives in his car blowing its horn in front of us.
“Grandma said I should take Lexie to work. Lexie, get in ” Prince said with a huge smile just to annoy King.
Holding his arm, I smile at him sweetly in an attempt to stop him. His grandmother was watching everything from upstairs and I could tell that she was up to something. No matter what, I couldn't allow King to lose to Prince because of me. The family fortune had to end up in King's hands.
“ I will get going, sweetheart," I said trying not to cringe at my own words as I waved at King.
Instead of letting me go, King pulls me back. I already suspected what he wanted.
"That's not how to say goodbye to your husband," King said staring at me intensely.
“King, your grandmo-”
“ I don't care,” King said rebelling again as he kissed me.
