The cool breeze blowing around the beach soothed my skin from the rays of the sun outside of the umbrella I was laying under. I kept my eyes on the people moving back and forth in the water upfront.
I smiled when I felt Lucas wrap his arm around my bare waist. He placed his hand on my bump and leaned down to kiss it before sitting up. He kissed my shoulder and I smiled wider.
"Your skin is hot. Do you want something cold to drink or eat?" He asked against my shoulder and I turned my head to stare at him.
"Yes, please. Maybe ice cream," I replied and he pecked my lips before standing on his feet. He tugged his shorts down a little and walked away.
As soon as he left my vicinity, his phone rang behind me. I turned around and grabbed it then turned it over. I furrowed my eyebrows at the caller— Cindy. It was confusing why she kept calling this way.
"Why does she keep calling constantly? Does this have anything to do with his work?" I asked and dropped the phone. I didn't want to answer it since I didn't know her and he had not said anything about the person to me.
I stared back at the waves crashing against each other and leaned back on my hands. I crossed my ankles and tilted my head back, enjoying the cool breeze blowing and the flapping of my hair.
Two minutes later, the phone rang again and I looked at the device beside me. Cindy was calling again and I rolled my eyes and took the phone. I saw Lucas coming back with two cones of ice cream and I sat straight. When he came closer and sat under the umbrella, I grabbed one of the ice creams from him and handed him his ringing phone.
"It's been ringing," I said and I licked my ice cream, looking ahead of me.
"Why the f**k does she keep calling," Lucas muttered but I heard every word he said.
"About that. She called two days ago when we went touring. Is everything okay?" I asked and he didn't meet my eyes, instead, he switched off his phone.
"It's not important. Let's enjoy the beach," he said dismissively and laid down with his head resting on his bent arm.
I blinked and shrugged then continued licking my ice cream, loving the softness and coldness of the treat.
"I can't believe our two weeks vacation will be over today," I said and pouted.
"We can always go for vacations anywhere you want," he said behind me.
"I know but it's expensive and—"
"Don't finish that sentence, babe. I've told you one too many times that money isn't a problem for me. I will spoil you however I want and remember you agreed that I buy you whatever, take you wherever and make you comfortable? We aren't about to argue with the one with the car I bought for you."
I pursed my lips as I remembered a month ago how we had one argument where he complained about how he wanted to spend on me after he bought me a car. An expensive Audi A6. I had a problem with it because he had gotten it without me knowing and said it was a surprise.
I could barely know how to drive but be paid to go to a driving school and still, I was still scared of driving. The only time I can use the car was when I wanted to go to the supermarket close by. Not that I wasn't good, I was just scared of crashing or bumping into someone's car.
"Okay," I said and he chuckled behind me.
"Good," he said.

We had gotten back from Spain yesterday and as soon as it was dawn, I was awake, ready for my class. It was weird waking up outside of the school dorms. I was used to waking up and using the public washrooms and then taking my dear time to walk through the campus to my department building.
I walked out of the walk-in closet in our bedroom, dressed in a thigh-length summer dress. It was going to be hot today according to the weather and I wasn't about to dress up too much. It was California after all.
After brushing my hair and picking up my book bag and my homework secured in a cylindrical case, I walked out of the room and through the wide hallway of the house. I was already getting calls from my classmates and I had to hurry to school.
As I descended the wooden steps, I saw Lucas was in the kitchen, eating his breakfast with bed hair and a sleepy face. I giggled and made my way into the huge kitchen on the other side of the living room.
"Good morning," I said and kissed his cheek.
"Good morning, baby," he said and took a sip out of his mug.
"Don't you have classes today?" I asked, wondering if he remembered he was a student.
"I do. At twelve. It's just one class," he replied and looked at me with his hooded eyes. "What time does your class end today?"
"At three," I replied as I took out a bottle of water from the large fridge.
"Are you driving to school or should I take you there?" He asked and bit into his toast.
I paused at the question and spoke to myself in my head that I can drive myself without crashing. I closed the fridge and turned around. I smiled at him.
"I will drive," I said through gritted teeth.
Lucas stared at me for some seconds, almost as if he was trying to read my mind. He sighed and picked up his phone. I watched him open the Uber app and after some seconds, he faced me.
"I just ordered a ride for you. He'll be here soon. I would have driven you to school but I have to head to the other school campus to get something for a professor," he said and I smiled in relief.
"Thank you," I said and rushed over to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.
"No, kiss me here," he said and puckered his lips. I giggled and kissed his lips. "I love you."
"I love you too," I said and moved away from him.
"I'll pick you up after your class, okay?"
I beamed. "Okay."
I rushed out of the house and saw my ride waiting on the side of the road. I eyed my car parked by the house and sighed before making my way to the Uber waiting.

I paid the driver and left the car. I stared at my department building across the campus street. I waited for a car to drive by before I rushed across the street. Before I got close, I heard the engine of a car coming from my left.
I turned my head and screamed at the car coming toward me.
