Chapter 7Paolina was sitting up in bed finishing her morning chocolate when there was a knock at the door and before she could speak it opened. She looked up in surprise. Thérèsa, her maid, was tidying the room and the hairdresser was heating the curling irons behind the screen. To her astonishment, because he had never come to her room before, Sir Harvey stood there. He was half-dressed, but instead of a coat he wore a gay-coloured brocade dressing gown that somehow contrived to make him look more dashing and debonair than usual.
