Not wanting to press any further, I quickly changed the topic. “I don’t know if you like to read, but you’ll have to spend some time here before,” my voice caught in my throat as I approached the other topic I’d been trying to avoid. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to finish, “the wedding.” My cheeks burned, hoping he hadn’t noticed the way I’d just gotten choked up.
We both knew he did, but Finn’s eyes didn’t reveal it. His face as serious as ever as he took a few steps further into the room. He stopped in front of one of the shelves, scanning over the series of books. “Why?” He finally turned to ask.
I tapped the tip of my shoe against the floor nervously. “Well, if you’re going to be a leader of this kingdom, you need to know all about it.”
