I quickly shifted and Colt took control, so we could follow our mate home. We kept telling ourselves that we just wanted to make sure she arrived safely, but I think we were both desperate not to leave her presence again.
I was in shock the day we met, and I discovered she was mine. Of all the people to help me all those years ago, it was my mate. I hated that she was too young to feel the bond, and was even more devastated when I went to visit her in the woods again, and found out she'd moved on.
I tried to track her down, but my girl was like a ghost. She would vanish the moment I would track her down again. Running into her today was a complete accident, but a happy one.
Though she still didn't feel the bond. I didn't understand why. Was it because she'd lost her Familiar? I'd never spoken to other severed, so I didn't know if they could feel their mates.
''We'll just have to do this the old way'' Colt said as he crouched behind a bush. Our mate had just paused and started looking around. Sh*t, she must have heard us ''We'll make her fall in love with us, and tell her the truth after she agrees to marry us''
''You make it sound so easy'' I rolled my eyes ''What if our father interferes again?''
My father was furious when I mentioned I'd found my mate, but she didn't have a Familiar. That's when he made his ultimatum. I either marry Paislee, or I lose my title, but I wasn't giving up my mate. She was kind, and generous, and absolutely gorgeous, even if she did dress like a drunken sailor.
''We'll buy her some nice dresses'' Colt suggested, and I was in complete agreement.
We continued following our girl and found her go into an old run down hut.
''I don't understand, if her father was an Alpha, why didn't she get her inheritance. There's no way he wouldn't have had money''
''She mightn't know that she was entitled to an inheritance''
''Let's track down her old pack and find out what happened to them, and see if we can get her some money'' I suggested, as Colt laid down, and we watched a candle being lit through a window, that was covered with a dark curtain ''If she has money, she might not fight''
I felt a shiver run down my spine.
''We have to stop mate from entering'' Colt told me ''She'll get herself killed!''
''We'll do what we can to stop her from qualifying''
''What do you think mate would do if we just knocked on the door?'' Colt asked after about twenty minutes of watching her cabin ''We could seduce her''
I laughed ''She'll probably freak out and stab us'' I pointed out ''To her, we're just acquaintances''
Colt whined and flopped his massive head onto his paws. We continued watching over our mate for another two hours, before her scent began to fade due to the wind, so we got up, and raced back to the Tavern, where we found Milo drinking by the fire place.
''Finally!'' He said, in his usual dramatic ''Can you please explain to me how you have a mate? And why I didn't know about it?!''
I growled in warning and grabbed a beer he'd left on the table by the sofa, and sat down. I took a long sip, screwing up my nose a little when I realized it was warm.
''Why is it your business?''
''Because I'm your Beta!'' He threw up his hands ''If I'd known who she was, I'd never have grabbed her today. My Goddess, Danny'' He used my nickname, and started to sound hysterical now ''Is this why you've been acting like a damn monk for years?!''
''Yes'' I shrugged ''Why would I want anyone but her''
''Are you sure she's your mate?'' He said, his face still completely shocked ''She doesn't feel the bond. Or at least, she doesn't let on if she does''
''I think it's because she lost her Familiar'' I leaned back and exhaled.
''Speaking of which. You know the pack won't accept her without a Familiar'' He reminded me.
''I don't care what they accept''
''Is her Familiar a Lycan?''
''Nine tail fox''
''The one the King has?''
I growled angrily ''Yes''
''F*ck. He used that Familiar and the Phoenix to take down an entire Dragon clan'' Milo gasped and ran his fingers through his hair ''If Luna Brielle could get her back, our pack would be unstoppable''
''First, don't call her Luna until she has accepted me. I don't want to scare her off'' I ordered ''And secondly, if I could get her Familiar back, it would be for her and not power''
''Nice bonus though''
''None of this will even matter if she gets herself killed trying to qualify for the tournament''
''She might actually make it in'' Milo shrugged ''She comes from a Lycan pack, her Familiar is powerful, which means she needed to be powerful in her own right in order to contain her fox. Maybe we should just sit back and see what she's capable of and go from there''
''I can't just sit back and watch her fight'' I rubbed my face, suddenly feeling ancient ''I'm going to go to bed. Oh, try to find out as much as you can about this Zeke is and how he bribed my girl''
''If you're not going to tell her the truth you need to rain in the jealousy and possessiveness of our kind, you'll give it away''
I stood up in annoyance ''Just find out about him!'' I snapped ''If he wants my mate I need to get on top of things'''
''Sure''
I stomped off to the bathroom and took a nice long hot shower, and w*nking for good measure while I imagined Brielle. Goddess, what I wouldn't give to bend her over and give her one long hard f*ck. Before I could work myself up again, I quickly climbed out, dressed and went to bed, but I dreamed about her all night, just like the first night I'd met her.
I was anxious all morning, and scarfed my food down before sneaking off to my mates home, but she was gone by the time I'd arrived so I headed back into town, following her scent.
When I finally tracked her down, she was hagling with an old lady with an owl Familiar perched on top of a stack of fabrics out the front of her story.
''Come on'' Brielle complained as she held up a pretty blue dress with what looked like a lacy white undercoat ''A dress can't be that much. I will give you half that''
''How many times do I have to tell you no, girl'' She pulled the dress out of her grip ''Go to that rack, it's in your price rang''
Brielle sighed dramatically and kicked the dirt before she wandered over to the rack and started flipping through the uglier brownish and white dresses.
I smirked and walked over to the women ''How much?'' I asked and gestured to the dress my mate wanted.
''Two gold coins''
Rip off. My mate was right.
''I'll give you one'' I told her and held it up ''But you have to pretend you changed your mind and give it to her for one gold coin''
''Why?''
''Do you wnat the sale or not?''
She frowned at me in suspicion but turned away from me ''Oy girl'' She called out and Brielle turned back, though she looked at me in surprise ''I've changed my mind, one gold coin and you have a deal''
''Done!'' She jumped at the chance before the women changed her mind and passed her the coin ''Thanks. What are you doing here?'' She asked me, as I slyly passed the women the other gold coin.
''Just passing by'' I shrugged ''So, I see you found a dress''
She moved closer and glared at the old woman over her shoulder as she started sweeping out the front of her shop.
''Do you have any idea how much they overcharge for dresses?'' She whispered in exasperation ''Men's clothing is half the price. Total scam''
''So is that why you dress like this?'' I asked and gestured to her outfit. She was wearing long black tights, ripped three-quarter black pants and a large oversize white shirt with a belt ''Because you're cheap''
''I am not cheap'' She feigned offense and put her hand on her chest, and I tried. I really tried not to look down ''I just don't like being taken for a fool. I'm not paying two gold coins for something worth one. These shop keepers think they can up the prices simply because I don't have a pen*s''
I laughed and cleared my throat ''You really are quite to lady''
''Yeah yeah'' She shrugged ''Anyway. I have to go meet a friend. See you around Alpha''
I felt the desire to grab her arm and keep her near me. Did she not feel anything at all?
''Right. I will see you again soon''
