Grant
We left Harvest Moon this morning and I let Otto drive the journey to Golden Meadows in New Mexico. The drive was six-hours long and Krew and I listened to Otto open up and start talking about what he wanted.
“Maybe the Moon Goddess has a plan for me in New Mexico,” Otto started out happily.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Maybe there is a pretty Navajo she-wolf waiting for me to annoy,” Otto said with a giant grin on his face.
Krew and I started laughing at Otto and I asked, “How the hell are you annoying?”
He sat there and thought for a while but ended up shaking his head. He was the least annoying person I knew. Hell, Eric was more annoying than Otto was.
While driving, Otto stopped and we got lunch at a Carl’s Jr. Their burgers were good, but man, I was bloated afterward. Krew took a nap after eating and I just sat there watching the land pass us by.
When we got to the pack territory at Golden Meadows, we stopped and rolled our windows down for the guards. The guard on my side approached me while scanning my face with his eyes.
He bowed his head and said, “Alpha Grant, Alpha Miguel is waiting for you at the packhouse porch.”
“Thank you,” I told him.
He nodded his head in reply and motioned for the gates to be opened. We drove through and up to the packhouse. While we drove, I could feel the shift in Otto’s attitude, he was now serious.
“What is this Alpha like?” Otto asked me.
“I don’t know Miguel too well. I know that he is a Lycan warrior like me. He’s twenty-five and still hasn’t found his mate. All of us will be learning what they are like. I know his parents because mine are close to his parents,” I told him and Krew.
Otto nodded his head as he pulled up beside other SUVs in front of the packhouse and parked. The three of us got out of the vehicle and grabbed a bag of our belongings for the week we would be here. As we walked up to the porch, I saw a man stand up from a bench under the shade. He was as tall as me with bronze skin, dark brown eyes, short black hair and a very short black beard. He was wearing gray dress pants and a black button-up shirt. Everything about him screamed Alpha and Lycan warrior. I could feel Skoll wake up and get ready to interact with another Lycan. He loved this.
I offered him my hand and said, “I’m Alpha Grant.”
“Good to meet you, Alpha Grant. I’m Alpha Miguel,” he said in a deep voice.
He looked behind me and I introduced him to Otto and Krew. Once everyone was introduced, the four of us stepped inside and Miguel showed us to the second floor where there were rooms ready for us. After we had set our things down, we followed him to his office. When I saw the floor to ceiling windows, I smiled and a memory came to me of my mom talking about this place.
“I remember my mom always talking about this office,” I said.
“Yeah, my dad said she loved the windows,” Miguel said.
“Yep.”
Miguel watched us until we sat down with him, then asked, “Which one is your Beta and which is your Gamma?”
“Otto is my Beta but Krew came from Harvest Moon,” I told him.
“Ah, got it,” Miguel said with a nod of understanding.
“Do you have a Gamma yet?” I asked him.
“Yes. As soon as I voted for the position to happen, I came home and put my sister, Isabella, in the position. She’s been handling all the Luna duties anyway, since I don’t have one yet, so it made sense to give her the Gamma roll.”
I nodded my head. I loved that he put a woman in the position and not a guy. I was interested in seeing what others would do. Personally, I wanted to wait to fill the Gamma roll until I had a Luna and have her pick her Gamma.
“I can show the three of you around town and introduce you to the she-wolves, so if your mate is here you can take her with you when you leave,” Miguel offered.
“That would be great. Though I’m sure Grant would rather stay here since he’s in no hurry to find his Luna,” Otto said.
That’s the first time this asshole has called me out on this s**t and he does it in front of an Alpha I don’t really know. What a d**k!
Miguel snorted and said, “His Luna will fall into his lap when he is ready for her. Right now he has no home and no money to support the woman that is to be at his side. I would be reluctant to find her if I were him.”
I smiled at Miguel and asked, “so you’re not in any rush either?”
“No. Why rush the best thing that will happen to me? She will be here when she is supposed to be,” Miguel said.
I smiled and nodded my head. I had just learned something important about him. He was smart, calculated and patient. I would be happy to call him a friend one day.
“I like that,” I told him with a smile.
He smiled back and got up from his seat. We all got up with him to leave the office. The four of us walked out of the packhouse and toward the town. The town was small but it was beautiful. All of the shops, stores and some of the houses looked like pueblo buildings.
As we walked around, we were introduced to the she-wolves and other members. Each beautiful she-wolf that Otto was introduced to, you could practically see him drooling over. He wanted a Navajo girl so badly. I just hope he’s not disappointed if he isn’t paired with one.
Krew and I just watched him and shook our heads as each she-wolf walked away after a brief meeting with him. By the time it was sun down, we had met every she-wolf in the pack that was looking for her mate. None of them belonged to any of us.
We headed back to the packhouse and walked to the dining room. We took our seats at long tables with wooden chairs and waited for our food. Two couples came and joined us and Miguel introduced them to us. We got to meet Beta Oscar and his mate, Sakari. Then we got to meet Miguel's sister, Gamma Isabella. She seemed a little intimidating to be honest. I had heard her mom was like that so clearly that’s where she got it from. Her mate, Jacy, was one of the warrior captains and you could tell that their bond complimented the other. He was warm and friendly but I bet he was a hell of a warrior.
After meeting them, Isabella turned to Miguel and asked, “Have you heard from Lola today?”
“No, why?”
“She hasn’t talked to me all day,” Isabella hissed.
“Hermana, she is probably busy. Lola has her own life and has a mate now. If you want to know what’s going on with her, you have a mind-link for a reason,” Miguel said.
Isabella rolled her eyes at him, then spotted someone that she seemed irritated with in the crowd. She squinted her eyes and pursed her lips. A woman that looked just like Isabella, but a little short, came and sat with us.
“What have you been up to all day that you can’t say hi?” Isabella asked in irritation.
“Well, excuse the hell out of me! I’ve been busy, thank you,” the other woman snapped.
The two of them started arguing in Spanish and I watched them intently as they got angry with one another. Miguel sighed and shook his head.
He looked at me and said, “forgive my sisters and their stupid fighting.”
“It’s ok. I have younger sisters who are twins. Imagine the fighting that goes on with them,” I said.
He gave me a weak smile then said to his sisters, “We have guests and the two of you are fighting over something dumb. Stop!”
His last word was more like a command and I watched as his eyes went gray, then back to brown. The fighting was bugging his Lycan. I looked at his sisters and they had stopped fighting and had their heads bowed a little.
Dinner was placed in front of us and I looked down to find chicken enchiladas. I happily dug into it and enjoyed the spice that I knew so well. I’ve missed foods that reminded me of home.
Finally, Isabella and Lola said sorry to one another and to Miguel, then apologized to the rest of us. Conversations started to pop up around our table, and I looked up at Miguel.
“What’s your Lycan’s name?” I asked him.
“Enyo. What about you?”
“Skoll.”
“Would you like to let them train while you’re here?” Miguel asked.
“Yeah, that would be great.”
“We will make it happen then. Do your eyes ever change to a different color?”
“No. They are always this silver gray,” I told him.
He nodded his head and we finished eating dinner. Once we were done, everyone went to their spaces for the night. I cleaned up then texted Madison to see what was going on with her.
“How was today?” I texted her.
“Gross. Mom took me clothes shopping and she made me try on dresses.”
“Why are dresses gross? You're a girl and you look good in them.”
“Do I look good in them?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“Well, then I might have to wear one the next time I see you.”
I sent her a smiling emoji and waited for her to reply.
“What did you get to do today?” she asked.
“I got to watch Otto drool over all the she-wolves here at Golden Meadows.”
“Oh gosh!”
“Yeah. It was hilarious to watch him,” I sent her and the pictures I had taken of the town.
“Oh, that’s so pretty. It looks just like what you would picture a Native American reservation would look like, but I doubt they do look like that.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
We texted each other all night until I fell asleep with my phone in my hand as I lay on my bed.

When morning came, I texted Madison good morning and apologized for falling asleep on her. She said it was ok because she fell asleep too. I smiled and left my phone in my room to go find breakfast. I went down to the dining hall and found Miguel with everyone else already eating. I had a seat with everyone and had breakfast before we all headed to the training field.
Isabella and Lola were going to train with one another and I was about to challenge the hell out of myself. Beta Oscar was trying to get Otto to spar with him, but Otto knew I was about to ask to train with all of them.
“I would like to spar against Miguel, Otto, Oscar and you Krew,” I said, grabbing Miguel and Oscars’ attention.
“Are you serious?” Miguel asked with a questioning look on his face.
“Yep,” I simply told him.
“Ok,” he said with a shrug.
Everyone did as I asked and got into position to start a training session with me. All four of them got ready quickly, then attacked. I dodged blows and landed several of my own in the process. I was quick and able to out maneuver them, that is until I didn’t notice where Miguel’s fist was and it landed square on my jaw. s**t f*****g hurt! Dude had some power to him and it made me stumble back a little before I recovered and we kept going.
By the end of the session, we had a large group of warriors watching us and it was only Miguel and me sparring while Otto and Oscar sat close by resting. Miguel took a shot toward my face but he was tired already and I could tell. I ducked out of the way and gave him a blow to his ribs that made him stubble back several steps. He grabbed his side and grimaced before stepping forward again. We were getting ready to clash once more when the alarm sounded calling an end to the match. We both stopped and shook hands while breathing hard. We all got a drink while resting on the grass and watched the warriors walk off.
“All I can say is, that was insane. How are you that strong?” Miguel asked.
“I don’t know. I can take two Lycan warriors at once, but I have no idea how I got like this. I’m out looking for answers though.”
“Well, be careful in your search for answers. You being that strong could bring trouble your way,” Miguel warned me.
“I didn't even think of that,” I told him honestly.
I never thought that my strength would bring me any problems. After thinking about it, I knew that this could make me a target if I wasn’t smart. Anyone with something to prove could come after me and I might meet my match out there.

We stayed here at Golden Meadows and trained for the week. Skoll got to train and learn from Miguel’s Lycan, Enyo. They became friends quickly and that put a smile on my face.
I learned a lot from Miguel while hanging out with him. He was very down-to-earth and wise. His Luna was going to be one lucky girl when he found her, because of how patient and kind he was.
Throughout our visit, I watched Otto try to chase the she-wolves but none of them were having it. Krew and I laughed at his misfortune and hoped that he had better luck elsewhere.
