27. Everything Changes

Madison When we got back from our run, we both shifted and our parents gave us clothes. I pulled on the oversized t-shirt my mom handed me while Grant pulled on shorts from his dad. The party had been packed up and our families started to walk back to the village. We reached the front of our parents’ houses and Logan hugged me before telling us goodnight. Her and Sebastian went back to the packhouse to call it a night. Eric hugged Grant and me before he left also. Jaxson and the twins went inside the Alpha house while Grant and I stood outside with our parents. We listened to our parents talk while I looked up and Grant. He was looking down at me with an intense stare and I wondered what he was thinking. “Go put some clothes on and I’ll go find a shirt. We’ll go look at the stars for a little while," he said gently. I smiled happily as my heart soared out of my chest and into the sky. I loved that he knew me so well and that he loved sharing those moments under the sky with me. Grant looked at my parents and said, “I’ll have her back at ten if that works.” They both nodded their heads and I ran off to find clothes. I walked into my room and shed the oversized shirt to pull on the clothes I had worn to school. Once I was dressed, I stepped out of the house and found Grant standing there with clothes on while he talked with our parents. When he saw me, he smiled and offered me his hand. I took it without hesitation and we said bye to our parents. We walked back out to the meadow as the sun set and the stars started to pepper the night sky. We didn’t speak but just enjoyed the moment, the sparks of our bond and feelings between us. When we reached the meadow, Grant sat down on the grass and I joined him. I sat in between his bent legs and leaned against his chest. I felt him kiss the side of my forehead and I looked at him with a soft smile. “I was terrified that when I saw you again my wolf wouldn’t be howling mate in my head,” I told him honestly. He inhaled deeply then said, "I was too. Today our wolves freed us." "They did!" I said happily. Grant wrapped his arms around me and I leaned into him even more with my arm wrapped around his neck and my fingers buried in his hair. After a long time of us holding one another, we settled to sit and look at the sky. I was still in between Grant's legs as we looked up at the stars together again and enjoyed each other's company. When it was getting closer to ten in the evening, we stood up to leave. I started to walk away when Grant reached out and wrapped his arms around me. He brought me close and cupped my face in one of his large hands. He kissed my lips gently, methodically and seductively. I parted my lips to let his tongue invade my mouth to mingle with mine. Our kiss lasted for several minutes as we held onto one another and enjoyed our time. When our kiss was over, we were breathing heavily as we held onto one another and connected our foreheads. When Grant had his breathing under control, he said, "come on. We need to get back." I nodded my head and we walked back to the village while holding hands. We reached the front of my parents’ house and stopped at the door. We turned to one another and I smiled, seeing his face still. He leaned in and kissed my lips gently before pulling back to look at me. "Sleep well," he told me. "You too." He nodded his head and said, while pulling me close once more, "I love you, Mads." I smiled brightly at him. I had always loved him and part of me always knew that he loved me back, but now we can really love one another. "I love you too, Grant." I saw him smile brightly at me. I wonder if he thought that I didn't. We kissed one last time before I turned to go inside. I would be staying here with my parents while he was next door at his parents’. I walked into the house and my parents were sitting on the couch still watching TV. I smiled brightly at them before telling them goodnight and heading to my room. I showered before I settled into bed. This would be the last night I would sleep alone. After tonight I will be with Grant. ~ The next morning, I was up early and moving around my room, packing my things. There was a knock on my closed door and I stopped to look up at it. "Come in," I said. Mom opened the door and stood there looking at me. She was happy yet I could tell that she was sad. "Hey mom." "Hey Maddy. I see you're already packing." I stood up and walked over to her. She wasn't standing fully in my room but just inside the door as I wrapped my arms around her. I hugged her tightly as she started to cry and hugged me even tighter. "What's wrong mama?" I asked. "I'm not ready to see my baby go." "It's ok, mama. Grant and I have a lot of reasons to come back for visits and you can always come see me. I'm just leaving the pack, not the country." She took a deep breath and nodded her head as she dried her tears. She nodded her head then started helping me to pack my clothes up. We had almost all of my clothes in my bags when I felt Grant’s presence close by. I looked up in the doorway and saw him standing there with a smile on his face. “Hey,” I said as I smiled at him. “Hey. Have you had breakfast?” he asked. “No, not yet.” Mom cut in and said, “I'll go make you something. Have you eaten, Grant?” “Yes. My mom wasn't going to let me leave the house until I ate.” Mom nodded her head and snickered as she left my room. Grant stepped into my room and started helping me to pack stuff. I quickly had all of my belongings in three suitcases. I sighed heavily as I looked at my room. Grant took my hand in his and I looked at him with a soft smile. He pulled me up to him and I wrapped my arms around his torso. I hugged him close as he hugged me. I felt his lips on my forehead and the sparks danced and tingled where he was touching me. “Maddy! Breakfast!” mom called from the kitchen. “Coming!” I called back as I let go of Grant. We walked into the dining room and sat down with my parents. I was given breakfast and started to eat while we all talked. “Are you all packed?” dad asked me. “Yes.” He nodded his head as he sipped his coffee. I could tell that this was hard for daddy and it pulled at my heart. I put my fork down and reached out for his hand. I took it and squeezed it. He looked at me with a weak smile. “You know you can come visit me and I plan to come visit you,” I told him. “I know Maddy. It’s still hard to let you go.” “I know it is daddy. But just think, you will have a Luna ceremony to come help me with,” I told him. I saw mom smile in realization and dad gave me a warm smile as his eyes started to water. He sniffled and took a breath before he nodded his head. I could feel my eyes burning but I didn't want to cry. I let go of his hand and continued eating while dad asked Grant questions. “How is the building going?” dad asked. “Good. Eric’s crew are finishing up on the last three houses I commissioned with him. Everything else is ready.” “How many pack members do you have now?” “Two hundred and thirty-five, excluding me, and then I need to add Madison to that.” Dad nodded his head and he asked, “do you have anyone from Harvest Moon?” “Yes, several. The closest one to me is named Krew.” Dad nodded his head and I knew what that was all about, spy s**t. To think my dad was a spy for Alpha Jack before he was the Beta here blew my mind. But dad spied on the pack here to report back to Harvest Moon. Every pack had a spy and every Alpha knew about it. “Are you living in the packhouse?” dad asked Grant. “No, I had my own house built.” “Do you have a Gamma already?” dad asked. “No. I wanted my Luna to pick that position like my mom picked out her own Beta.” Dad nodded his head and then asked, “how are you funding the pack?” I groaned in irritation and dad looked at me with a raised eyebrow. I know that he was just making sure Grant was taking care of everything and that I would be taken care of, but come on. “I started my own construction company and I'm taking classes to be an architect,” Grant told him. You could see the surprise on dad's face and I smiled. That’s right! My mate has his s**t together and he knows what responsibility is. The conversation died down and I finished eating breakfast. The Alpha family came over along with Eric, Logan, Sebastian and Owen. Everyone talked for a while before we started to get ready to leave. Grant and I said bye and hugged everyone. Logan practically crushed me while we hugged because she squeezed me so hard. Mom and dad grabbed my bags and we walked to dad's truck. They loaded my things and then the four of us climbed into the vehicle. Dad drove us to the airport where the Hunter’s Moon jet was waiting for us. We got out of dad's truck and unloaded my things. The flight crew came to collect my stuff and I turned to my parents. “I will text and call to be annoying. I will also let you know when my Luna ceremony is, graduation and anything else important.” They both smiled at me. I hugged my mom first and she smiled brightly at me before hugging Grant. I wrapped my dad up in my arms and hugged him tightly. I could feel him not wanting to let me go and I knew it would be hard for him to say goodbye. When dad finally started to release me, I looked at him and said, “I'm ready to go give this pack hell and teach them who I am.” He laughed with tears in his eyes. I kissed his cheek before letting go of him and let Grant shake his hand before they hugged. "I’ll take good care of her and try to keep her out of as much trouble as possible,” Grant said. “Good luck with that last one,” dad told him and they shared a laugh while I shook my head. We waved and finally boarded the jet. I settled into my seat beside Grant and held his hand as we got ready for take off. Everything was about to change. Not just the place I was living, but my relationship with Grant had just progressed and changed. It made me smile. We took off and sat in our seats while talking about things at Red Stone. I couldn’t wait to see my new home and share new experiences with Grant. The flight was short and we landed in Georgia close to Red Stone territory. We climbed off the jet and my bags were unloaded. Grant helped me load my things up in the back of his SUV and then he drove us home. The area looked a lot like the area we grew up in but as soon as I saw the town I knew it was different. He had done a great job of picking out locations for the pack buildings and there were so many trees. Grant parked his vehicle in front of a house and I looked at it closely. He had sent me pictures of it and I realized that it was his house. Our house. We got out and I looked around at the members that were moving around town. We unloaded my things and took them inside. Stepping inside to the small foyer, I felt like I had already been here because of the pictures he had sent to me. The whole house smelled of Grant and I loved it. Soon it would smell like both of us. To the right, I saw the living room and straight ahead was the walkway to the kitchen and behind that was the dining area. To the left was a hallway and I followed Grant down it. On the left side was the master bedroom and bathroom. Further down the hall there was a staircase that led to the second story. We walked into the bedroom and we placed my things down on the floor next to the king-sized four-poster bed we would share. I bet it was comfy. “Do you want to unpack now or wait until later?” Grant asked me. “It can wait.” “Alright,” he said, looking at the time, then continued with, “I can introduce you to some people, then we can go eat lunch in the packhouse next door.” “Sounds good to me,” I said happily. We left the house and walked over to the packhouse. It reminded me of the packhouse at Hunter’s Moon except it housed the offices and spaces for people that needed a home or were unmated and not warriors. The barracks were for all the unmated warriors and Grant told me there were a lot of them. We walked inside and headed to the office spaces. On the left side of the hallway was Grant's office and I peaked in at it as we passed. The first door on the right was the Beta office. We stepped into the doorway and I saw Otto, a Native American man who was handsome as hell. Damn! He looked up at us and smiled as he got up from his seat. I returned his smile. He walked around his desk and offered me his hand. I happily took it, and right as I touched Otto, I heard a deep warning growl come from Grant. I held onto Otto’s hand and both of us looked over at Grant. He had the most shocked look on his face and I wanted to laugh. I dropped Otto’s hand and lightly laughed as I asked Grant, “what was that?” “That was Skoll,” Grant told us. “Figures,” I said while shaking my head. “He’s even more testy now that you know she’s yours. I hope he calms down once you claim her, bud,” Otto told Grant. “You and me both,” Grant told him. Grant had told me that he had shared the news with Otto last night and that he couldn’t wait to meet me. But something that Otto said caught my attention. I looked at Otto and asked, “what do you mean by now that he knows I’m his, he's more testy?” “On Christmas, while we were in Mongolia and you facetimed him, all of us looked over his shoulder to sneak a glance at you because he would never show us pictures of you but he would talk about you. After he ended the call, I commented on how pretty you were and Skoll growled at me, then said that you weren’t for me,” Otto explained. “Wow!” “Yeah,” Grant groaned while shaking his head. “Oh, I have Aksel, Krew and some others on double patrol to the west. We’ve had some odd movement there and not by members. We checked the fence and there were animals moving through it but we can't tell what kind,” Otto said. “Ok. Let me know when you have something,” Grant said. Otto nodded his head and we all walked to the dining hall for lunch. We sat down together and members started to come in. It was mostly young warriors who were all a few years older than me. While we waited for lunch, I started asking questions. “How many of the pack members are pups?” Grant and Otto sat there thinking for a moment before Grant said, “I think like twenty.” “I’m going to be the only senior, aren't I?” “Yeah,” Grant said, giving me a sorry look. I nodded my head and Otto asked, “Will that be an issue for you?” “Not at all.” Lunch was brought out to us and I looked at my plate with my head tilted to the side. It looked like smushed dumplings but super crispy. “It’s Mongolian meat pies. They’re really good,” Grant told me. I picked one up and took a bite. Grant was right. They were super good. I ate my food happily realizing that I would get to try some of the food he got to try on his travels. Living here was going to be the best. When we were done with lunch, Otto went back to his office and Grant showed me to my office. There was no furniture in here but there were shelves. I would need to order furniture but that made me happy. I would get to make the space my own. We left the packhouse and walked into the small town. I was introduced to people and smiled every time Grant called me Luna Madison. I had never really wanted the position of Luna, just the man that was now an Alpha. Once the tour of the pack territory was over, we walked back to the house and stepped up onto the porch. At the front door, Grant took my hand and stopped me from going in. I looked at him for an answer as to what he was doing. “I, Alpha Grant of the Red Stone Pack, accept you Madison, as a pack member, my mate and my Luna.” I felt the connection to him in my mind now thanks to the pack link, and my heart started to beat faster because not only had he accepted me as a member but formally as his Luna and mate. “I, Madison, of the Red Stone Pack, accept you, Alpha Grant, as my mate and my Alpha.” He smiled warmly at me before pulling me close and kissing my lips tenderly. When we broke apart, we stepped into the house and I went to put my things away with his help. We had everything in its place before it was dinner time. I followed him to the kitchen and watched him get things out to make dinner. I looked in every cabinet to see what we all had and if we needed anything. He had everything I could have asked for here in our kitchen and it made me happy. I got a glass of water and sat on the countertop to watch him cook. As I watched him, he stole tender kisses and I touched his bare skin every chance I got. I loved the new feeling we got from touching one another. I saw that he had noodles boiling and he was baking chicken. He had jars and spices out also. “What are you making?” I asked. “Pesto pasta with chicken,” he told me. “Sounds yummy,” I told him. “I hope it is,” he said with a grin. I watched him until everything was done. I got plates and forks out and set the table for us. I got him a drink and we sat down to have our first meal together in the home he had built. Then it dawned on me, he built this place for us. He had come back just in time to rush construction so things would be done for me when I turned eighteen. “Mads, are you ok?” Grant’s voice brought me out of my thoughts. “Yeah, I’m good. I just realized that you came back at the perfect time to build everything before I turned eighteen.” “Yeah. I did that on purpose. I’ve always wanted you as my mate. It would have torn me apart to see you with someone else.” I gave him a soft smile and nodded my head before saying, “same.” I took a deep breath and looked down at my plate. I took my first bite and smiled at the flavors he captured in this dish. It was good. Not only could you taste the pesto but a little lemon too. We ate our dinner together before cleaning up the kitchen and heading to the bedroom.
