The little thing was only a tenth of the size of a pinhead.
One of an almost extinct species.
This very small creature with its tiny little eight legs crawled as fast at it could, which due to its tiny size was still very slow up the steps.
The trip ahead was long a difficult,
These were only the first large humanoid sized steps at the start of a huge number of steps of a lost hill city.
At the top of this hill city was a magnificent and huge step pyramid.
This step pyramid was as tall as a medium-sized skyscraper of our world and would look to us as almost south American Aztec in style.
And this little creature was charging towards the small room at the pyramid's peak as fast as its little legs could carry it.
For a full-sized human such a journey would take days, but for this little guy, the journey would take weeks!
But full of determination the small this courageously charged on!
During its travels, the sun never rose or set.
For this was the underground city of Sunset.
.
This city was deep, Deep, DEEP underground in a cavern five times taller than its central pyramid.
(Directly under the Satite Imperial Capital, but at least a hundred miles down.)
This was one of three such pyramid cities of the cavern worlds.
The other two were identical in their layout.
One belonged to the Spider race and their queen.
The other was far deeper still in a world below this one!
Far Deeper!
In a realm below this one, known as the Shadow World.
.
The brave little red creature made its epic journey.
Crawling up walls and making webs if needed.
No larger potential predators came near it.
Even if they noticed it.
Eventually, the little thing got to the top pyramid chamber, where once great sacrifices were made.
Now it was the sleeping quarters of the king of Sunset city.
It waited for the King to go to bed from outside of the stone square room.
As the king slept, the little creature slowly and carefully crawled up the walls and then along the roof, upside down, across the ancient ceiling.
Then it lowered itself very slowly on its spun webbing towards the sleeping monarch.
This almost extinct creature was a tiny spider.
And it was very venomous.
This was a sneak attack attempt on the sleeper below.
The deep breathing and deeply dreaming The Sunset king.
This man had not always been King of all the thieves and assassins of the world.
He had been born as Miys Phug, in a small country village that no longer existed.
The Venom would not kill Miys straight away,
But it would make capturing him for information that much easier.
The little scarlet death spider was now only a few feet away from its target.
Then it simply fell apart in two even halves.
And Miys was on his feet only a few feet away, with the two twin master assassin daggers in his hands.
He tilted his head ever so slightly while the rest of his body stood perfectly still.
His lightning-fast reactions and finally tuned muscle memory had made him slice the little spider in half and roll onto his feet before he knew that he was awake.
(Which meant that the spider extremely toxic paralysing venom was now finally coated on both blades!)
There were only about a hundred “Citizens” in this huge abandoned city, all of them were active heads of various spy, thief and assassin guilds from across the whole world.
A sound of attack horns blared out.
Someone had noticed something.
All the citizens would now stealthy stalk towards the great step pyramid to defend the Sunset King.
The first and main enemy attack came from above as a thousand different species of giant spiders lowered from the sky on a thousand different web threads, from the roof of the mighty cavern above.
This was followed by mass ground attacks by Dark Elves of the Spider queen.
These warriors had partaken in drinking the spider's queen venom in a special ceremony.
Making them become faster, stronger and with a second set of humanoid arms under the first.
Each elite warrior blade dancing in a whirling dervish with an enchanted curved blade in each of their four hands.
Like miniature hurricanes of sharpened grace,
Like living blenders effortlessly carving and dodging their way through any opposing force.
The second step pyramid city, The Spider City had committed to an attack on The Sunset city.
They were supposed to be allies!
Miys was not particularly bothered by the betrayal.
He had lost count of how many double-crosses and treasons he had both committed and had also committed himself on the way to the top.
Such things were an integral part of his world
However, he was really curious as to why the great Spider queen of the caverns had decided to betray him.
There were no immediate benefits to her,
Her wealth and power were immense!
Which meant someone had purchased favours from one of the most powerful lands on the planet.
Someone had a lot of power and money with which to hire her!
.
It was that hiring power that was the real danger, not the Spider Queen or her empire itself.
Kill the figurative purse strings and you extinguished the spider kingdoms loyalty to that unseen force.
.
For someone to pull these sorts of resources without any of his brothers either warning him or stopping the attack from ever happening in the first place, meant one thing.
That there was someone or something resourceful enough to hide themselves from the Phug family crime network!
Some movement that had managed to keep themselves secret from The Phugs, who themselves, were the supposed masters of all crime and secrets.
Who the hell was this unexpected, out of the left-field, surprising new foe?
.
First, Miys had to fight his way out of this attack and escape.
‘IF’ he could…
Then, he needed answers.
He needed the one person who might know something,
Who might be able to offer some type of lead, no matter how tenuous?
Some hint as to ‘what the hell was going on’ here!
Who ‘might’ have some idea of who the real enemy was!
.
.
The man needed his mom.
