Chapter 2

NIKKI "So are you going to tell us voluntarily, or would you want us to ask the reason why you did what you did this morning? We’re not seeing things right? You were actually chatting with your brother’s best friend. In all fairness, you really seemed nice. Did something happen? Or did a witch cast a spell to get back at you?" my best friend was the first one to ask about the thing with Faye. I knew that they were going to ask about it. It’s a good thing that we were hanging out at our favorite spot when they brought up the topic. We’re the only ones here, so no eavesdroppers. "My God, you have no idea how stressed I am when I was talking to her. And she had the nerve to ignore me the first time, did you see that? I was really trying to get hold of myself to not beat the hell out of that girl when she did that. I was like, hello, I’m the Queen Bee and who gave you the right to ignore me?” I rolled my eyes when I saw them laugh. Nothing’s funny. They had no idea what I had to put through when I was talking to that girl. "You didn’t answer my question. Why did you do that?” Jenny asked again. Her question caught the attention of our friends. I sighed before answering. "Because yesterday, Miguel kneeled down and asked me to be-friend that stupid girl, and wouldn’t stop pestering me until I said yes. Do you really think that I will be chatting with that unfashionable girl voluntarily? Ew.” I said with a hint of disgust. Again, another audible laugh from our friends. “Oh there’s the bitchy attitude that I was looking for when you were walking towards her this morning. I thought that you’re just pulling her leg and will burst ‘It’s a prank!’ after a minute or so, but that didn’t happen.” she commented and the others were just nodding their heads. “Well yeah, that would be funny, but I wouldn’t do that because that’ll hurt my brother’s feelings. You do know how he’s so into that girl, right? And another thing, she’s really smart. I was actually enjoying our conversation because of her insights. I had a feeling that she likes my brother, too. Plus, when I was looking at her, she’s not not bad looking. She just needs a little make-over.” I said. "I see. So, what’s your next plan?” she asked. "We can help her. I mean, we can help her with the make-over. She’s being bullied because of her looks and her taste in clothes, and Milo wants us to hang-out with her as soon as possible. And if she’s gonna be one of us, she should change her looks.” I said while shrugging. If that would make my brother happy, I’d be willing to do it. She was about to ask again, but my phone buzzed. My face lit up when I saw my boyfriend’s name. Sweet. I miss him already. "Hello Babe!” I could hear the excitement on his voice. "Hi Babe, wazzup?" I asked trying to sound not that excited. I wouldn’t want him to think that I am as eager as he is. I heard him laugh and that made me smile. “Really, wazzup, Babe? You’re funny.” he said and I was really thankful that he’s not here to see how happy I was when I heard that. "I know, right? So, why did you call?” "I’ll pick you up later? I miss you and I miss our dinner dates.” he said. Aw, I miss them too. I was quite busy last week and wasn’t able to go out with him.  I was about to say yes, but I remembered that I was planning to help my brother’s future girlfriend. Ugh! And I want that makeover as soon as possible. "I’m sorry that I had to raincheck again. I have prior engagement that I couldn’t postpone." I said feeling guilty. I know how much he missed me, and I missed him too, but I needed to be a SISTER first. I heard him sigh. "I understand Babe! Would you want me to accompany you?" he was hopeful that I’d say yes. I could hear it from his voice. "Nope. It’s fine Babe. I can manage. And it’s a girls only engagement.” I said. I hate it when I reject him, but I needed to. "I see. Okay Babe! I love you!" he was trying to sound okay, but I could hear a hint of disappointment because of my rejection.  "I love you too. Tomorrow, Babe. I’m all yours. I promise.” I said trying to make up for it. “Alright.” was just his answer. Then he ended the call. Again, another sigh. I raised an eyebrow when I saw that my best friend was smiling while looking at me. “What?” I gave her a bitchy tone. "You really love your brother that much and that’s adorable. You even sacrificed your own happiness just to make him happy.” she said and that made me smile. She’s right though. I would really do anything for my brother. "Yeah. You guys know how much I love him and I’m willing to sacrifice everything for him. He’s the most important person in my life and no one can change that.” I sincerely said. "Yep. You even chose him over your boyfriend. Or should I say, you even chose the makeover thing over Chase.” she commented. Yeah right. "Speaking of that. Are you guys willing to help me with Faye’s makeover? I’ll buy her some clothes today, and if we still have time we’ll do the makeover.” I asked my friends. "Oh I'd love to! I’m in." Jenny excitedly answered. “I’ll pass. I have a date tonight.” that was Allison. “Do I really have to answer that question?” Mei-mei said, and apologetically looked at her. “It’s fine. I really know where I stand.” she continued before waving goodbye. “She knows how much your brother likes Faye from the beginning and she’s sure that she couldn’t do anything about it.” Jenny said when we were looking at Meimei’s retreating figure. “Well, the heart wants what it wants.” was the only that I could say. “Let me just call my brother.” I said after a while. "Nikki! I love you! Thank you so much!" again, a smile crept across my face when I heard how happy my brother is. “Faye told me that you talked to her and she was really happy! She was really excited when she was talking about it a while ago.” he said. "Of course. How can I say no to my cute baby brother? And in all fairness, your ‘girlfriend’ is not that bad. I enjoyed talking to her. And because of that, will it be okay if I take her to shopping tonight? Is she doing something?” I asked and there was his excitement again. “No, she’s not busy. Wait, you can call her. I’ll send you her number!” he said before ending the call. Oh wow. He’s really into that girl. After some seconds, I received the girl’s number. I shook my head before calling her. Why do I have to deal with this? UGH! ****   FAYE I wrinkled my forehead when I felt my phone buzzed. Is it Milo again? We just finished talking a while ago, right? What does he want now? Oh well, he was really excited about her sister and I’s conversation. That’s when I saw an unknown number calling. Huh? Who could this be? Milo and my parents the only ones who knew about my number. "Uh-hello?" I answered.   "Hi Faye! Nikki here! Are you doing something tonight?” my mouth formed an ‘o’ shape. Wow. I didn’t expect that Nikki’s the person on the other line. Is this the real life? Or is it just fantasy? Ugh, Faye! Stop quoting Queen and answer Nikki’s question. "Uhm no. I’m about to go home." I bashfully answered. Well, I don’t have any friends rather than Milo, so I don’t have any one to hang around with.   "I see. Do you want to come with me? I wanna go shopping and I need a shopping buddy.” huh? Did I hear it right? Did she really invite me to go shopping with her? Seriously, what’s wrong with the world, Mama? I don’t know what to do. Will I reject her offer? I’m not sure if she’ll enjoy my company. But what if she gets mad and forbid Milo to hang out with me? Oh God. What would I do? What would I do? "Faye? Are you still there?" oh. Right. She’s still on the other line. "Uh. Sorry. I-I’m still here. And yes, if it’s okay with you I’ll go.” what? Why did I say that? Did I really agree to go shopping with her?   “Of course. I was the one who invited you, right? Alright. Meet me at the parking lot. You know where we park, right?” she said and I nodded. “Faye?” f**k. Of course she wouldn’t see the nod. Stupid me. “Yes. Yes. I’ll be there in five.” I said. “Good. I’ll see you then.” she ended the call. I rushed to the parking are after our conversation. I wouldn’t want her to wait that much. She was already there when I arrived. She was with Jenny. Yep, I know her friend’s name because she’s the only who’s been nice to me ever since. “Hi Faye.” she waved. “Uh hello Jenny. Hello Nikki. M-may I know where we’re going?” I asked before getting into the car. Jenny has her own car, so I would be alone with Nikki in her car. “We’re going to our mall.” she said and winked at me. I froze. I felt that spark again. The one I felt this morning when she smiled at me. The hell? I just shook my head and ignored that awkward feeling. I wouldn’t want to ruin this night. This is the first time that I’d be hanging-out with the Queen Bee, yay!
