The next day at school, Jared saw that Eve was calmer, but she was still looking around uncomfortably every once in a while. In order to make sure she felt safe, he chose to keep a close eye on her.
In the late afternoon, Jared saw Eve talking to the same security guard. There was a look of anger between them. The security guard looked serious, and Eve's face was stressed.
Jared walked up to them and was ready to find out what was going on. "Eve, what's going on?"
Eve looked shocked. "Oh, Jared, it's not a big deal." I just wanted to know where to go."
Jared frowned. "Directions to where?"
Eve hesitated. "Um, to the gym."
The security guard frowned and walked away. Jared turned to Eve. "Why didn't you just ask me?"
Eve looked down. "I didn't want to bother you."
