Alice stood out of her cabin, staring at the path hoping beyond hope that Rosie would return home soon. A sigh left her lips as she glanced up at the moon that was now high up in the sky, taunting her. It was getting late and there was no trace of Rosie.
Alex, her husband hadn’t come back home from his trip to the neighbouring pack, he is supposed to come back in few hours. He would be very upset if he knew that Rosie stepped out of the cabin just before mating.
“ Where is this girl? Even though she promised to come back early she is not here yet. How can she be so careless?” Alice muttered under her breath, her Omega restless that their pup is not home yet. Her heart was beating faster as she kept glancing at the path.
“ Maybe I should go and look for her then.” Fleur said as she walked out of the cabin and stood beside her mother. “ She must have forgotten that she had made a promise with us. You know how careless she gets when she is enjoying herself in the nature.” Fleur said and offered a smile that was way too forced to look natural and it definitely didn’t calm Alice whose strawberry scent was now turned sour with distress.
“ She had never been do late, Fleur. She had always came back early, you know how much of scaredy cat she is in reality. I am afraid…” Alice gulp down rest of her words and fleur glanced up at the moon. It was extremely late, Rosie had never gone out this late before. She is after all a timid person who is afraid of dark and the creatures that live in the dark. She often warns Fleur to not roam in dark.
“ I will go and look for her.” Fleur informed and was about to turn when Alice held her wrist to stop her in her tracks. She turned around to look at her mother.
“ You are not going anywhere, Fleur. Do you know how dangerous it is to go out right now?” Alice asked, her voice stern but Fleur was stubborn too. She was after all her daughter.
“ And so what do you want to do then? Sit here and wait for her to come back while worrying about something that we don’t even want to name?” She asked , her voice stern too. Alice glanced at her with narrowed eyes.
“ Yes. All we can do is do that. I can’t really sent a Omega who is so young out in the dark.” Alice said with declaration that left no place for discussion.
“ Sorry but I can’t do that.” She said and turned towards the cabin. She went to get the cloak that was by the door of the cabin and she immediately draped herself with the warm furs of bear that was hunted by her father. The coat still had the scent of eucalyptus that belonged to her father.
Feeling the sense of protection running over her entire being, she turned around and walked towards her mother who was now giving her pleading look instead. She knew that he mother was right to worry but what can they do here by just sitting and waiting for the omega to get home.
“ Do you expect me to wait for not one but two of my daughter?” She asked , and Fleur gave her a assuring smile and stretched her neck to the side.
“ Scent me, mother. “ She offered and Alice didn’t wait a second to lean in and rub her nose all over the young Omega’s scent gland. Scenting her till she was completely drenched in the smell of strawberries, her wolf at ease when she pulled away. Maybe she should have scented Rosie as well, she will scold Rosie when she comes back. The girl had crossed all her limits today by first disobeying the tradition set my moon goddess and then staying away so late.
“ I’ll be back soon and I’ll hopefully bring Rosie with me too. I am sure that she must have slept somewhere .” Fleur said and planted a soft kiss on her mother’s cheek.
The pack had fallen asleep , or maybe they were busy with the preparations of what was going to happen tomorrow, the mating ceremony. It was completely silent , except for the occasional sound of various insects.
“ Be safe, Fleur.” Alice said as she watched Fleur nodding her head at her before running away.
Fleur didn’t look back at her mother, thinking that it would be hard if she does because now Alice had to wait for her husband as well as both of her pups. Fleur closed her eyes momentarily, praying to the goddess above her to keep her family safe. She want Rosie to be safe and sound .
Recently , Omegas are being attacked by rogue Alphas . Rogue wolves are the wolves that had no pack and had no morals whatsoever. Where the pack wolves are more inclined towards their human side and think accordingly, rogue wolves are almost animalistic. They are never loyal to anyone and treat omegas as a piece of meat that they could devour and leave according to their choice. For them omegas are nothing but just some dirt under their feet.
They have killed two of the packs Omegas and of course that had lead to a war between them.
Fleur should not think about this. She really shouldn’t. Rogue wolves do not enter their pack and Fleur knew that Rosie won’t step out of the pack territory. Rosie had never crossed the pack boundary.
So she head towards the place where Rosie told her she would be and that was the open field.
It was already too dark to see what was in front of her . Fleur’s human eyesight is not as strong as that of her Wolf’s eyesight. Wolves are made to hunt at night and Fleur really can’t afford to change into her wolf form right now.
She ran towards the open field, grimacing where her shoe would hit some stones or would tangle up in the weeds of the plants. She was clumsy since the beginning.
It was too dark but she didn’t care at the moment, she had to search her stupid sister. Her wolf was restless too making Fleur think that something was wrong.
When she reached the open field , it looked empty. There was no scent of rose lingering in the air yet Fleur stepped into the open field.
“ Rosie! Rosie! ROSE!” She called out her name loudly anyway while searching in every direction albeit she got no answer back from there.
Rosie had told her that she would be here, then where is she?
“ Rosie? Where are you? Mother is searching for you! You are making us worry!” She shouted, as she searched her in every direction. Her voice was so loud that her throat was aching.
Rosie was not in the field.
Where was she exactly then?
Fleur had walked all the way through the pack and she didn’t smell her sister’s intoxicating scent of rose.
Fleur stopped calling her name when she knew that Rosie was not here. She stopped in her tracks to catch her breath. Desperation is running in her body.
Without wasting anymore minute, she made her way towards the stream near the entry of the pack, calling Rosie’s name but gaining no response in return. She searched for her everywhere near the banyan tree where they used to play when they were kids and also towards the little pond where they used to sit together whenever they were bored.
She should have gone with her when Rosie had asked her to.
Defeated , she walked back towards her cabin . Her heart clenched when she saw her mother sitting by the stairs at the entrance of the cabin, her gaze at the road.
Alice immediately stood up when she saw fleur walk towards her. A look of disappointment immediately took over her features when she saw that Fleur had came back alone, Rosie was not with her.
Alice broke down into a sob as her legs gave away, she almost fell on the ground but Fleur caught her right in the time, her own eyes moistening in return.
“ Where is she Fleur? Where is she?” Alice asked as she broke down.
“ I don’t know, mom. I searched for her everywhere.” Fleur said. She even went to Noah’s cabin but he was not there. His parents told her that he is busy decorating his new cabin, fleur had no idea where his new cabin was.
Fleur hugged her mother close to her and prayed again and again for Rosie to come back soon. She will scold her when she comes back. That girl is so reckless. She prayed that let Rosie be with Noah at the moment because even the thought that she was with Noah, happy and sound made Fleur feel a little better , a little hopeful.
. . .
“ And you let her go just like that!” Alex asked Alice who just ducked her head even low. She was ashamed of herself for being so easy on her pups.
Alex who has just return home after days of visiting the neighbouring pack was beyond furious when he knew that his eldest daughter who was also soon-to-be bride, was out of the house at this hour. It was almost midnight . It was clearly not a good sign.
Alice had cooked Rosie’s favourite dishes especially for her because tomorrow she would be leaving them for her mate but now that dinner was cold and no one bothered to even look at it, appetite long lost.
“ I will go and search for her!” Alex declared and Alice nodded as she watched him leave the cabin with hurried steps.
Just when he was about to leave, Freya came running inside their cabin. She looked distraught and she was flushed all over panting as she had ran all the way to their cabin. Freya was the wife and mate of head Alpha’s son
“ Freya? What’s Wrong?” Alice asked, uneasiness consuming her as she quickly stood up from her place and made her way towards Freya who had tears in her eyes. “ Freya? You are scaring me! What happened?” He asked again.
“ Rosie. . .” Freya started but a sob left her lips.
“ What happened to Rosie? Freya! What happened to Rosie?” Alice was now shouting at her , her heart clenching. Her omega clawed at her chest.
“ Please come with me! “ She sobbed, she begged pathetically. “ I can’t say. . . Please. . .” Freya cried as she looked around her with desperation in her eyes.
It didn’t even took them a second to react as they immediately ran out of their cabin, steps frantic.
Fleur just came back from running around for so long searching for her elder sister. Fleur frowned as she looked around the cabin, few hours ago this pack was silent with not even one wolf out if their house but right now it seems like every wolf was out of their cabin and what didn’t settle well with her was the fact that every wolf were looking at them with pity in their eyes. She had no idea what was happening and truth to be told, she didn’t want to think about the possibility that could happen. Her heart raced with unusual speed.
It was not until they reach the pack ground where every meeting is held when the fog in her brain finally went away.
Wolves were standing in a circle around Something . Alex was the one who immediately rushed towards the circle pushing them away to see what was happening.
The air around was fumed with the scent of something that Fleur is too familiar to mixed with the stench of blood.
There on the ground was something none of them had ever thought.
Fleur felt as if her heart had stopped beating and her world had stopped spinning. Everything felt distant adage stare at what was on the ground, or you could say who was on the ground.
She didn’t even react when Alice fell on the ground with a loud thud, her body too numb for this world.
Because on the ground was her beautiful, healthy and sweet sister, Rosie covered in blood and lifeless.
