Chapter Seven - Purple Eyes

1695 Words
I was more determined than ever to get us out of here. My heart was breaking every morning and every night over and over. River endured a pain I couldn't begin to fathom. Her innocence was violently ripped away from her. Her spirit faded little by little each day. She didn't speak for a week and even when she finally did, it was very little. She had lost all hope of escape, but I reminded her every morning and every night that I was devising a plan to escape. I watched the pack members' daily routine and took into account uncertainties. I identified areas that were less frequently used and figured out which door we had the best chance of escape through. The biggest problem we faced was we weren't permitted outside beyond the garden. So my knowledge of what lied outside was limited. I had no idea the obstacles we would face once we slipped out the pack house doors. The window in the omega quarters wouldn't work. It was locked shut and breaking through would alert everyone. The pack members could mindlink everyone within seconds. "Cade," I whispered beneath my breath one evening. "I had devised my escape plan," I said as softly as I could muster. I was helping him wash dishes after dinner. "Be careful Alana," he warned me, his voice low. "Come with us." He started washing the dishes more vigorously when I suggested that. "Please." "No. It isn't worth the risk for me. I'm an omega anywhere I go and I don't want to live as a Rogue," he replied. "But I will miss you." "But Cade," he cut me off by clanging pans together. He shook his head and made his intentions clear. He wasn't going to come with us. "Take me with you," I heard Aurora behind me, her eyes pleading. She had been assigned to help us in the kitchen today since the other omegas were busy with other tasks. She had volunteered for kitchen duty so she could be with Cade and I. "Of course. We leave tonight," I whispered to her. "Be ready to follow me after everyone falls asleep." She smiled sweetly and nodded before turning back to help finish cleaning up the kitchen. Tonight we were going to escape this dreadful place. Tonight, we were going to be free. I was always the one being helped or rescued. This time, it was my turn to save River. "You better hurry up and help me finish cleaning," Cade warned. "You can be really bossy you know," I commented while I started to clean faster. "And you are a slacker that is easily distracted," he fired back with a playful smile. I really was going to miss him. At least Aurora was going to come with us. Night fall couldn't have arrived soon enough. I was itching to put my plan into action. I was itching for us to be free again. I climbed into bed early and listened to the rest of the omegas one by one do the same. I laid there in the pitch black darkness listening to the ruffling sounds fade away into silence. Even still, I had to wait. I couldn't risk anyone being awake. I must have waited until three in the morning before I finally got up. I crept over to River's bed and gently woke her. My hand was placed on her shoulder and I leaned in to her ear, "Let's go, River. It's time to leave." She cringed beneath my touch as usual, but she got up none the less. We didn't risk changing our clothes before we left. Aurora didn't need to be woken up. I watched her get out of her bed when she saw me move. She had been laying in bed awake this entire time as I have. She tip-toed to the large bedroom door and waited for River and I. Before I exited the room, I was paused and whispered as softly as I could to both of them, "Follow me as closely as you can. Make no noise. Trust me." They both nodded. I opened the door as quietly as I could and we all slipped out completely unnoticed. We had two hours before the omegas would start to wake up. The only werewolves that should be awake at this hour were some of the warriors tasked with night patrol. I led them down the corridor, moving as soundless as possible. I strained my werewolf hearing to try and make sure no one was coming. I kept moving until we almost reached the kitchen. So far, we didn't see anyone. I had timed it for when the patrol was at its fewest inside and around the pack house. We hid around the corner that turned to the kitchen. I didn't smell anyone nor hear anyone in the kitchen. I carefully peered around the corner and as expected, it was empty. I felt my heart beat quicken with excitement and adrenaline pulsing through my body. We were almost out of the pack house and no one even knew we were missing. Once we were outside I was going to sprint for the pack border. I planned on running until we couldn't stand to run anymore. Freedom was so close. I cautiously moved towards the door that led to the outside world. My eyes fixated on them. Everything inside the pack house still remained silent. Once I reached the door I drew in a deep breath to try and calm my nerves, then opened the door as slowly as I could in hopes of not being heard or anyone outside noticing. I made it outside, breathing in the fresh night air and for the first time getting a good look at what was outside. The pack house was nestled in the rolling hills that led towards massive snow-topped mountains in the distance. A forest surrounded the open expanse that the pack house and its other settlements resided. A gentle breeze whirled around and rustled the tall grass and flowers that reminded me of home. My eyes danced around my surroundings, seeing that it was relatively empty, but there were moving shows in the distance. There were a few homes with lights. It was not as inactive at night as I had hoped, but we were going to try. We were going to make a run for it. Something was wrong. Something held me back from running forward in a desperate frenzy. I could feel Vesper faintly in my mind trying to tell me something. I looked over my shoulder to see Aurora behind me outside, but River was missing. I felt my heart sink in horror at her absence. I couldn't leave without her. I whirled around in an instant and stepped back inside. My eyes widened at what I saw. River was squirming in the grasp of a man I didn't recognize. His aura told me he was a high ranked wolf. Maybe the Gamma or Lead warrior. His hands were wrapped around River's throat so tightly that I could visibly see her face changing colors. He had an amused look on his face and his lips pulled into a wicked grin, enjoying watching her struggle in his grasp. She wildly was kicking out her legs helpless. Her hands were trying to pry his fingers from her throat, but he had her overpowered. River was powerful so this had me baffled. Perhaps her body was weak from all of the trauma she had endured. "Run Aurora, you can still escape," I snapped at her and thew myself at River's captor. He tried to block me with a single arm, but with the adrenaline rushing through my body, I managed to dodge it with ease. My nails elongated, a partial shift that only a few werewolves were capable of, and dug then into his throat. I don't know how I had that ability, but I did. I knew a few others from the Full Moon Pack did as well like my sister Alina and Blaze. River's assailant released her and thwarted me off of him. He stumbled back a bit in surprise. I assumed he wasn't expecting a partial shift from the likes of me. I may have been a lousy fighter, but I still had Gamma blood. "How? They have been giving you wolfsbane!" He shouted at me. The truth was I didn't know how I was able to feel my wolf at all. She was there enough for me to partial shift, but her presence was faint. I couldn't fe her there enough to even attempt a full shift. I only could hear her voice, distant and faint during times when I could concentrate on it. "Let us go!" I shouted back. Our means to sneakily escape were ruined. I was prepared to fight the rest of the way out. "I can't let go of my favorite play thing," he taunted us, smiling at River who shrunk back. For the first time I saw fear glistening in her bright blue eyes. "You both will be stuck here as our slaves forever and I will make River my personal toy. She will never leave my bedroom again," he laughed menacingly. I felt rage building up inside of me. I felt blood rushing to my head and my skin burn as if it was on fire. I lunged at him again, seeing his stunned expression, I knew my eyes must have changed colors. Rage and other intense emotions made our eyes shine the color of our wolf's, especially when they were fighting to take control of our bodies. Mine were an oddity. Something that didn't exist in the werewolf world. My eyes shone purple. Before I collided into the man, a strong force grabbed me in mid-air. His arms wrapped around me, restraining me against him. He was strong and his aura overwhelmingly powerful. I thrashed around wildly in his grasp in a desperate attempt to escape. "What do we have here?" A strong, familiar voice asked. My heart hammered in my chest, and my body froze. It was Alpha Remus.
