Chapter 6: In Which He Defends

Bluebell sighed in content when she came out of her room the next morning to be welcomed with the smell of pancakes. She could get used to this. "Hey, good morning" she said greeting Noah who was in front of the stove flipping pancakes. "Good morning" he said turning off the stove and moving towards the counter with a stack of pancakes. "You really don't have to make breakfast for both of us" she said feeling bad that he is making breakfast when he only just moved in. "Sweetheart, you excused first month's rent on me this is the very least I can do, plus I like making breakfast for us and sitting together in the morning," Noah said taking a seat in front of her and serving her with pancakes first and then himself. "Oh, I forgot to ask you last night, I was just so tired but any luck with the job hunt" Bluebell asked suddenly remembering. "Yes actually, I've always been good with auto mechanics and I found a job in a mechanics shop, it's a pretty big place, lots of customers and decent pay, the owner said that the pay is gonna increase if I prove myself" Noah said "Oh my god that's great news, I am so happy for you" Bluebell said genuinely happy. "Yes it is and that's why we're celebrating with ice cream tonight" Noah stated. "Yaaayy, I love ice cream" Bluebell said dramatically with a wide toothy grin on her face which made Noah chuckle. "I'm sure you do" he said smiling. Soon enough both of them were out of their apartment building walking towards their respected workplaces. First, they both came at a halt at Bluebell's diner. "I'll wait for my ice cream treat tonight" she said turning around smiling up at Noah, the height difference was something that she couldn't get over. "Sure" Noah said reciprocating her smile. Unsure but wanting to do it Bluebell stepped forward towards him almost diminishing the gap between them, she stood up on her toes while pulling Noah's neck down towards her and then placing a feather light kiss on his cheek. "Uhmm... best of luck with your new job" she said completely flushed and ran inside the diner before Noah could even open his mouth to say something. Noah smiled to himself as he saw the bluebell's petite figure retreating into the diner. He was surprised of her actions, to say the least, but he wasn't complaining at all, however, her little antics left him wanting more. In time he thought. He then made his way towards the mechanic's shop. The mechanic's shop was fairly busy today and as soon as he got in Noah was put to work on a heavy bike's break repairs. Noah didn't mind the work at all he quite enjoyed it and was actually glad that he was working like a normal person to get normal wages like a normal person. While he was tightening the nuts with a wrench he heard shouting of men. "What do you mean you haven't fixed it yet? you said it'd be ready by two days and well here I am after two days!" he heard a man yell, he sounded enraged. "Yea well man when we opened it up, the damage was deeper than we expected, give us two more days and it'll be as good as new" the worker tried to reason but the next thing that was heard was something falling and a loud thud. Noah decided to get up and interfere in the matter. There was ginger bearded, big beer belly man standing there with the stance one of that of a black angry bull. "Hey what's the matter here?" Noah asked in a strong voice. "The matter is that I need my f*****g truck fixed right now as I was told it would be" the bearded man said, spit spluttering out of his mouth due to the intensity and attitude he said it with. Noah did not like it. "You throw a tantrum like a baby over a little thing" Noah said folding his arms and standing right in front of the man. Hearing this the man's jaw ticked, it was almost as if smoke could be seen coming out of his ears but it didn't bother Noah, he had dealt with big mean hobos like him in prison. Next thing you know is that the man attempted to swing a punch at Noah's face but missed as Noah's reflexes kicked in. Noah was going to play a defense game, he was on parole after all. The burly man's attempts seem quite pathetic as each was dodged by Noah. "Oh come on now stop making a fool out of yourself" Noah said with folded arms as he saw the man breathing heavily. The man eventually stopped. "Okay now let us settle this. Now you either tow your truck away with you and leave now or give us two more days to fix" Noah said. The man obviously didn't wanna go through all the trouble of towing away his own truck. "My truck better be ready" He said pointing a finger. Then walked away. Noah just rolled his eyes. "Thank you he would've probably broken a bone or two of mine if you hadn't intervened" the worker who the hobo shoved thanked him. "It's no problem" Noah said monotonously. "See I was right to hire him, we can always use more muscle plus the boy is good at his job" Gerald, who actually owned the mechanic's garage and whose name after the garage was said coming out from the back while wiping the what seemed like break oil off. Noah gave him a tight lip light smile not wanting to seem rude. They might think of him as some sort of hero due to his show of strength or rather the impressive defense and it may even make them forget that he is a pardoned felon but Noah himself knew that what he used his skill and strength for in his teens, his years of youth and how those antics of his took away precious years of his youth from him but that show of strength was something he did not wanna show again unless needed or when it concerned the safety of his Bluebell. Who by the way he was very eager to see.
