AYITA’s POV.
I couldn’t believe my ears as I watched his car drive away. How could he stand in front of me and speak like that? He clearly didn’t want me and now he wanted to act like my life indebted to him?
Thinking about him, I couldn't help but be more upset at myself for even loving a cold blooded man like him. He didn’t even look like he had any iota of sympathy in his eyes.
Well, what was I expecting? Clave had always been that kind of man, I just didn’t bring myself to notice his red flags because I was hopelessly in love with him.
“What the hell was that for?” Lorenzo’s voice brought me back from my train of thoughts, “don’t you know you could have been killed by those people?”
“One question, Lorenzo?” I turned to him as I sniffed back a tear, “who exactly is your boss and who are you working for?”
“Is that important right now?” He hissed.
“Answer me!!” I half yelled at the top of my voice, “who sent you? Are you working for clave? Is he your boss?”
“Come, I will take you home”
He walked towards the car and threw the door open but I just kept looking at him like he was some kind of alien.
“I thought as much”
With one last glance at him, I began to walk down the road.
How dare clave try to mess with my life in the way he was? He clearly told me off and now he was acting like he owned me. Thinking about it now, I felt a little disgusted. He shouldn’t have gotten involved in my life in the first place.
I was not sure for how long I had walked until a hand yanked me and Lorenzo’s face came into view again.
“Stop being stubborn, Ayita” he told me, “it’s getting late, I will take you home”
“Get your hands off of me!!” I blurted in anger and yanked my hand away from him, “how dare touch me? Look” I pointed my index finger to his face, “go back and tell your boss that I do not need his help nor do I need you. The two of can get lost in the abyss of hell for all I care”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I angrily wiped them off,
“And tell your boss that he can not do as he pleases and I
am not going anywhere”
Angrily, I walked away and immediately flagged down a taxi. In no time, I was on my way back to my apartment, my eyes watering despite the fact that I was trying to stop it.
******
As soon as I got home, I slumped on the bed and closed my eyes. I wanted to sleep so I could forget about what happened but no matter how I tried, it was not possible. What gave him the right to interfere in my life when he clearly didn’t want me and that blonde, that Ebony. How I wish I could whack her hard across the face.
Gosh!!!
“You need to relax” I advised myself, “easy does it”
I couldn’t even be completely mad at him, not when those eyes looked like they were pulling me in and that body of his.
“Do not be so cheap, Ayita” I thought deep within myself again and let out a heavy sigh while pulling my body to a sitting position again, I was actually kind of tired and scared at the same time.
When I saw that gun in the morning and even this night, fear gripped me. That was the first time I was seeing a gun from up close and it felt like I was going to be suffocated in the midst of all that.
The phone on my bedside table began to buzz and when I saw the caller ID, I ignored the call but it kept ringing nonstop until I finally picked up.
“You forgot your bag in my taxi ma’am”
“Oh” I immediately spranged out of bed, I thought it was that Lorenzo calling me with a different number and that was why I did not answer,
“I am on my way to get it sir, sorry about that”
I hastened out of the room and down the stairs, luckily I was still there and I heaved a sigh.
“Sorry about that sir, I didn’t realize it”
“It’s fine”
I watched him as he zoomed off after giving me the bag and that was when my attention was drawn to the man who was standing in the shadows.
Fear gripped me almost immediately, I turned around and started walking towards the house and he also began to come at me.
Without thinking much, I began to run towards the direction of the house and I could hear him behind me.
Fear gripped me and in my course of running, I landed on a hard chest and I came to an abrupt halt, my heart pounding fast against my rib cage.
I looked up and I was more surprised to see Clave in front of me with a scowl on his face.
“Clave” his name rolled out of my mouth and I grabbed onto him, “Someone is following me.” I looked back and he was no longer there.
Confusion flashed through my face, he was there a while ago.
“He is just a street rat,” Clave told me, “and why are you out of your house?”
“I came to get my bag from the cab and he…” my voice trailed off, I was really very scared. What would have happened if Clave didn’t show up? What would have happened if he actually caught up with me? The thought of it sent shivers down my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood on edge.
“I told Lorenzo to bring you home, why did you have to come back in a taxi?” He raised an eyebrow at me and I could see him clenching his teeth together.
“I was just…” my voice trailed off again as reality dawned on me. Why was he here? How did he even know where I was or how did he know I would come out here?
“How did you get here?”
“How secure is that room of yours?” He asked me, clearly ignoring my question.
“What?”
“You could have gotten a better apartment but you didn’t want to use the money I gave you, how pathetic” he spat in anger.
“Why did you come here, Clave?. How did you know….
Not saying anything, he grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me towards the house, a gesture that surprised me a lot.
After walking up the stairs and coming to a halt in front of my door, Clave let go of my hand.
He continued staring at me for a while until the buzzing of his phone Interrupted the silence.
As soon as he pulled out his phone and saw the caller ID, a frown appeared on his face but he didn’t answer. Instead he ended the call and returned his focus to me.
“Grab a few things, you will sleep at a hotel and tomorrow you will go to the airport from there”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Did you hear what I said?” Clave hissed.
“You seem to be mistaken, i made it clear that I am not going anywhere”
“Don’t make me repeat myself again, Ayita” this time the look on his face darkened as he bent a little to my height,
“it is already very late and I have some work to take care of, grab a few things and we will be on our way”
“I….
The words hung in my throat when he shoved towards the wall and his huge frame towered over me,
“Do you want me to take you with me in one piece or In several pieces??” He growled and I gulped, fear written all over my face, “I do not have time so make a choice, Ayita”
For a moment I couldn’t say anything as I continued to gaze into his surreal eyes and I couldn't help but wonder if the rule of not showing one’s face applied to only me.
