CHAPTER FOUR.

1856 Words
AYITA’s POV. Dropping my bag on the table, my eyes swept over the room for a moment and I let out a sigh. This was the only apartment available at the moment, I could have easily gotten a better one but I didn’t want to touch the money Clave had given me. I would find a way to give it back to him because I didn’t want to owe him anything at all. Since he rejected me, I might as well let go of everything concerning him. It was going to hurt but it was better that way. Letting out another sigh, I picked up my phone to call my father but I decided against it because It didn’t seem like he wanted to talk to me. It has been two days since I came to Los Angeles but my father has not called me even once. I threw the phone on the couch and stood up before walking towards the window. As soon as I threw it open, a gust of wind blew past my face as my eyes came in contact with the busy road ahead. I particularly love this apartment because of its beautiful view. It was a semi penthouse of a building and it was perfect for me. It had a little balcony to the right which gave me another view of the place. I hope I will enjoy my stay here. After staring down for a while, I walked back to the couch and grabbed my bag again before making my way up the stairs. I had a lot to do, a lot of cleaning and turning this into my home. The moment I entered my room, the beeping of my phone reached my ear and the moment I saw who was on the line, a small smile appeared on my face. “Hello” I said as soon as I pressed my phone against my ear. “Hey girlfriend” Jade’s voice filtered into my ear. Jade was my friend from school, i couldn’t particularly call her my best friend but at least we hung out and helped each other at times. “Sorry I couldn't call, my flight just landed. Have you gotten a house yet?” “Hmmm” I nodded, “i just want to do some cleaning and everything will be set” “Fine, I will drop my things off at home and come to you soon” Did I also mention that her father was a mayor of the town? They also lived in Los Angeles but a bit farther from where I was and genuinely, I was not in the mood to have a visitor right now. I just wanted to stay on my own and just have a rest. “You don’t have to bother jade” I told her, “I have to go to the market to grab a few things, maybe we should meet tomorrow for a small housewarming party, what do you think?” “Are you okay, Ayita?” She asked from the other end, “why do you sound so dull?” I couldn’t help but scoff as the thought of Clave wound its way into my head. How am I supposed to tell her that the man I spoke so highly of made a mess of me and embarrassed me in such a way? “It’s nothing love” I finally answered, “I should go now, i have a lot to do” Not bothering to wait for her response, I ended the call and flung the phone on the bed again. I made up my mind back at the hotel that I wouldn't cry anymore, it was his loss and not mine. He was the one who let me go and I didn’t let him go so why? But thinking about it, I couldn't stop the tears from welling up in my eyes. I loved him too much not to cry, he chose that blonde over me and I could not get over it no matter how much I thought about it. “Get your acts together, Ayita” I told myself as I sniffed back a tear, “he doesn’t want you, he wants the blonde” I picked up my bag and started my clean up, this would help me from thinking about him. ***** When I finally looked at the time, it was already a few minutes past five. I have been working for five hours straight without stopping, what heartbreak could cause but at least I did something tangible. Now everything looked like mine and I was glad, I just wanted to jump into bed and take a nap. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard the doorbell ring and my forehead creased into a frown. I was not expecting anyone and no one even knew I was here, not like I had any other friend aside from jade who wouldn’t be coming in today. The doorbell came again and I hastened out of the room and down the stairs before throwing the door open and I was a bit surprised to see the landlord by the door. “Hello sir” I greeted him as I raked my fingers through my black inky hair. “Will you be busy tomorrow?” He asked and the frown on my face intensified, was he a creep? Why ask me such a question? “What do you mean?” “Remember I told you the heating pad for the house was not in good condition, well I have been able to purchase them and i have called someone to come fix it tomorrow starting with your room” I genuinely do not understand what he was trying to say because first of all, my room was the last and he was complaining about not having enough money to fix the heating pad for every room in the house so what changed? “The last I remembered, you said you didn’t have enough money” He chuckled lightly, “just let me if you would be out tomorrow so I reschedule with the person” “Of course not” I told him, “I would be home in the afternoon, I have a prior engagement in the morning” “Very well then” Turning around, he walked away and I entered the house before slamming my door shut. ***** The chirpings of birds made me open my eyes slowly as I let out a light yawn. It was morning already and I haven’t even gotten up to an hour of sleep. I was awake the whole night thinking of where it went wrong for me. I had my life all planned out with clave and now… I looked out of the window and I discovered the bird which was standing there looking beautiful. My lips curled up for a moment, it was indeed very beautiful. “Good morning” I muttered under my breath as I pushed my body out of the bed before making my way towards the bathroom. I had a lot to do today and I can’t not keep lazing around. If I wanted to completely forget about Clave, I would need to keep myself busy. I have already made arrangements to apply for a thesis program at my former college while trying to get into my masters program too, maybe this could help take my mind off Clave. It was already a few minutes past seven and I had to be at my professors office by 8am, now it was me against the time. After taking my bath, I got dressed in a pair of denim pants and a T-shirt to match before grabbing my bag and I was ready to leave after pulling my hair into a ponytail. Standing in front of the mirror looking at myself, a vague memory of that night appeared in my head. Clave’s hand was all over my body while our lips were locked together. I shook my head to remove such thoughts, the Clave Herminwood I knew would never do that. Pushing the thoughts to the back of my head, I grabbed my phone and made my way out of the room making a mental note to grab breakfast on the way. The moment I stepped onto the busy road, a kind of chill ran down my spine. It felt like someone was watching me from the shadows but I was not sure who. No one in Los Angeles knew me and I knew no one so who could be watching me like a hawk? Shaking my head, I told myself to be calm. I haven’t hurt anyone and no one is going to hurt me. Even Clave told me to disappear forever but I don’t have to leave, he doesn’t base her anyways. My thoughts are cut short when a black Ford came to an abrupt halt in front of me and I had to shift back a little while a huge frown appeared on my face. “Can you at least watch where you are going?” I asked the man who had just whined down his window, instantly I developed a dislike of him. “Tell me where you are going young lady and I will drop you off” he told me, “I think I am headed in your direction” “Excuse me” I rolled my eyes and walked away but the car drove up to me again. “I am not permitted to leave until you get into the car so let me drop you off, aren’t you going to your former college? My heart skipped a beat at his outburst, how did he know? “Who exactly are you?” I couldn’t help but ask him. “You can think of me as your Uber driver” he answered, “now get into the car Ayita and stop asking questions” For a moment I kept looking at him wondering who this man in a black leather jacket is all about and he had a lot of tattoos on his body, definitely a red flag. “Look sir, I do not know who you are and I don’t care about that but I don’t need your help. I will go to my college on my own” I made to walk away again but his next words halted me, “A gun is being pointed at you from the top of your building and it will fire in one minute, you either get in the car or you get shot in the head” I abruptly looked up and my heart skipped a beat when I actually saw a gun being pointed at me. What is this? “So tell me, what is your choice?” Clenching my teeth together, I threw open the car door and entered into the car and I could see the smirk that formed on his face. “Good girl” he muttered before zooming off suddenly, making me grab onto the seat almost immediately.
