~ Serena's POV ~

“Is she dead yet?” I heard a familiar voice, but it was hard for me to open my eyes. I coughed out the water while they continued to push me into the water. They have tied something around my body. I think they are pulling and pushing me into the water with the help of this belt.

What’s so good about being alive when my soul has already died? Why didn’t the moon goddess snatch my life? My world is black. There is nothing, but the darkness that surrounds me.

“Nah. Her body was still moving. Should we break her legs and make her limp? She is already mute and blind, so what’s the problem?

If the authorities or any pack member asked us about her condition, then we can lie that she got into some accident. Who would believe a mute over us?” The girl tried to make her voice sound as innocent as she could, but I know what kind of people they are and what they are capable of doing. I wanted to scream. I wanted to run from those horrible people, but what could I do? I am just a helpless girl.

“Hey!” Someone kicked me hard around my abdominal area and then the other person grabbed me by my hair.

They might not know this, but I can identify them by their scent.

“Aaah!” I screamed as the girl who was grabbing me by my hair pulled my hair back with all her strength.

“Wow, she can scream even though she is mute.” She tried to be witty, but I found her quite dumb for saying something like that.

Well, what could I expect from the daughter of a tyrannical Alpha?

Even if I wanted to run away from this place and this damn pack, I was not able to do anything. Alpha Paxton made sure that I wouldn’t have any choice, but to remain in this hellish pack.

I wanted all of this to be my nightmare, but the reality is always harsh.

“I wanted to taste her, Cecilia, before she loses her consciousness.” I heard the man’s voice, but I knew what she was going to reply to him.

“No. Do you want my brother to kill you? Asher is crazy about her or should I say crazy about taking her virginity? He wants to be the first man, but I guess... he won’t care if he will have her. Tsk, I don’t know why everyone is crazy about this b***h! She is nothing, but a worthless beauty. Anyway, we all know how men are, right? Once they get the toy... they throw it away after using it, so I believe you will get the chance to f**k her, Raiden.” She tried to comfort her friend who is crazy, just like Cecilia.

I am not even able to say such basic things and it’s all thanks to her father. The man who snatched away everything when I was just eight.

“Hey! Open your f*****g eyes! You still need to prepare for the ceremony.” She slapped me hard, but I only smiled as, finally, I would be able to meet my family in my sleep. It’s been ten years... ten long years, but I still can’t forget their screams and the blood.

I only see them in my dreams and I can relive my happy memories with them. If you ask me, I don’t want to open my eyes again. I wanted to taste the delicious pancakes that my mother made for me, I wanted to fight with my brother and I wanted to learn from my father. If I could, I would never miss the training again. This place is not always known as the Mystic Shadow Pack. It was once called Midnight Pack and my father was the most respected Alpha.

Alpha Xander Stansfield.

The memory of that night is still fresh in my mind. It’s like everything happened just yesterday.

“You seriously think that by applying that gloss, your appearance would change? Tsk, I wanted a younger brother, but I ended up having a stupid sister.” Tyler again made one of his stupid comments that he loves to make whenever he sees me getting ready.

I stick out my tongue as I seriously don’t want to fight with him on his big day. He is going to be the Alpha and his father is going to handle his position for him in the ceremony.

I can’t believe that he is ten years older than me. He sometimes behaves like he is the younger one. Well, my father said my mind is sharper than children of my age, so that’s more of a reason why I don’t have many friends, I guess.

“What’s the problem if I want to look good in today’s ceremony? At least one of us should look presentable, right? Make sure to remember your speech. You are not as good as me in your academics, so I do feel kind of sorry for you.” I looked into his caramel brown eyes and he moved his fingers in his brown hair with a smirk on his face.

Did he believe that he looked handsome when he pushed back his hair?

Tsk, my brother must have read too many romance novels. Well, that’s the only book that he reads these days.

He surely wanted to impress that bride of his.

Just one meeting and now he only thinks about her.

People in love surely become crazy. First, my parents and now my brother. I am not going to end up like these people.

I continued to brush my hair.

“Don’t tell me that you are interested in that guy. Oh, that might be the reason you are applying mother’s gloss, huh? But you are too young to date, so as your big brother, I can’t allow you to go out with that punk.” He ruffled my hair and this made me lose my cool. I was not certain at first, but now I am sure that he doesn’t have a thing called a brain. His head must be empty. How could he even think that I would have crushed over that Asher?

I threw the hairbrush at Tyler and he dashed toward me as he wanted to hit me with the same hairbrush.

“Mom! Tyler is hitting me again! I told you he is still a kid and he is still not fit to become the next Alpha. Goddess, I can’t believe he is going to take a mate in today’s ceremony. Have you gone nuts, brother? Why are you running behind me? For goddess’ sake, you are eighteen now, so start behaving like an adult.” I tried to run as fast as I could, but the pack members were moving left and right because of the preparations for the ceremony.

Where is mother when I need her the most?

She is the only one who could stop this crazy guy.

“Have I gone nuts? Come here, you little devil. If I should start behaving like an adult, then I should also act like an eight-year-old girl. What’s the point of running away from me? You know you are no match for me. I am faster than you, Serena.” My brother looked proud of being taller than me.

He continued to chase me, but I smiled at him. He didn’t know one thing. I know his movements.

“And, you, my brother, you are not smarter than me.” I laughed at him and I then pushed the table at him as I wanted to block his path, but he easily jumped over that table.

“Tyler and Serena Stansfield... one more complaint against you from any of the pack members and you won’t have a meal for a whole day.” My mother, Luna Clara said and she walked toward us with an angry expression on her face.

Father was trying to calm her down and he then started to whisper something sweetly in her ear.

I and Tyler looked at each other and we pretended to feel nauseous to see our parents romancing in front of our eyes.

“No PDA, please!” I and Tyler said in unison and we turned our faces in some other direction.

“You came into this world because of our romance. If we didn’t get together then you wouldn’t be here to say such things.” My father tried to tell us that this is normal, but I still don’t want to see them kissing in front of my eyes.

“Too much information!” Tyler told them and he then covered my ears.

Now, he is acting like a protective big brother.

“I will see what you will do when your children ask you to do the same thing, son. Your mother was only eighteen when she was pregnant with you and we are not that old now, are we?” My father pulled my mother closer to him while she gently touched the tip of his nose with hers.

Argh!

I want to puke now. I seriously feel grossed out right now.

I am happy that they are still so much in love, but they don’t have to show it to us. Tyler tried to cover my eyes this time, but I simply pushed him away and this time, I kicked him hard on his knees.

How could I forget in all of this that I was trying to run away from him? I again tried to run away from Tyler as he believes in being equal, but before I could run out, my father stopped me. I looked up and my hazel eyes met his blue ones. He is the most handsome man and I don’t think that anyone could compete against him.

My father ruffled my reddish brown hair and this time he carried me in his arms, “Come here, sweetie. You shouldn’t fight with your big brother. He may be stupid, but the family accepts each other weaknesses, don’t they?”

He is kind of right. As a family, I need to accept that Tyler is an i***t. I tried my best not to laugh at him, but when I saw the way he was gazing at my father with disbelief written all over his face, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

“Do you have to say that sort of thing to cheer your daughter, father? Don’t you want to say anything to her? Can’t you see that she is getting ready for the ceremony for that guy? She is thinking about making that guy your future son-in-law.” I gaped when I heard about the plan that I never made in the first place. Is she serious right now? Just because he saw me giggling with that Asher, he assured me that I have feelings for him.

If he thinks that his father is going to believe him, then he is so wrong. I know my father... he is not stupid, like my brother.

“What are you doing, father?” I asked him and he continued to wipe the gloss from my lips with his handkerchief.

“Nothing. You are just a child and things like gloss... it doesn’t suit you.” My father smiled and when I looked at my mother, she turned to look at someone else. She told that person to keep the things.

Yeah, sure.

Now, she pretends that she is busy with other stuff.

This time my brother stuck out his tongue and he felt kind of satisfied with his little victory.

“Aren’t you going to stay with your parents until they are old? We will tell your mate to stay in our packhouse, alright?” My father gently caressed my head and I simply rolled my eyes at him.

“Nah. I am going to explore the world.” I replied to him without blinking my eyes and my mother and brother laughed.

“Alright, but I am going to be the one who will choose your mate for you. He will need to pass the tests that I and Tyler will prepare for him.” I don’t know why he is even talking about mates. I am still too young and I don’t want to be confided in any sort of relationship with anyone.

This time my mother lightly punched my father and she flashed a forced smile, “Do you want our daughter to remain unmarried for the rest of her life? Jeez! Sometimes you become quite overprotective of our daughter.”

For once, I agree with my mother.

“We have prepared everything, Alpha. The clothes for the ceremony are kept in your rooms.” Peter, my father’s omega, said whilst he bowed his head, but my father asked him to look up.

He doesn’t like to make anyone feel that they are below anyone. He respects everyone irrespective of their position in the pack. My brother also wants to become like him and me too.

Unlike other packs... Midnight Pack never discriminate. Werewolf, she-wolf, omega, Beta and Alpha... everyone is treated respectfully. Everyone gets a chance to prove themselves.

“Should we go and get ready? We don’t want our special guests to wait, right? You too, go and get dressed up, young lady, but no gloss or makeup for you, alright?” I glared at him, but he just gently kissed me on my forehead.

While I was heading upstairs, Tyler hit me on my head and then he dashed towards his room which was adjacent to mine.

“Did you see that? He is worse than a child.” I complained to my parents, but they walked towards their room which was on the ground floor.

Some responsible parents are. I have plenty of time to teach him a lesson, but I am letting this side down today as today he is going to bring a new member into the pack. How could the moon goddess choose someone like Nadia to be his mate?

She is an angel and he is nothing, but a jerk.

I locked the door behind me and saw the beautiful dress that was kept on my bed.

The fabric is quite soft and the design is very unique.

I did learn a lot from books about clothes, culture and also about war strategies. I still haven’t told anything to Father or Tyler as I want to surprise them. If I work effortlessly, then I could easily apply for the position of Tyler’s Beta.

He may be stupid and annoying, but he is still my elder brother and I am going to help him with flourishing the midnight Pack with my knowledge and strength.

I picked up the light pinkish dress and then I tried to look at my reflection after keeping the dress on me in front of the mirror.

Most of the work is on the net and there is also a beautiful ribbon like a belt around the waist of the dress. It does suit me. After taking a quick shower, I wore the dress that my parents personally chose for me.

I know that they are the ones who selected this dress as they both still think that I like this colour, so they try to buy all the things which are pink in colour. Well, I did like that colour once, but preference changes with time and so did mine.

I sighed when I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, but suddenly someone knocked at my door, so I unlocked the door and when I gazed out, I saw Lisa. She is three years younger than me, but she loves to stick around me all the time.

“You look good.” She smiled at me and I pinched her cheeks.

This girl only compliments me when she wants something or when she created a new problem that needs my help to fix.

“Don’t try to trick me with your cuteness. Tell me, what did you do now?” I made sure that she tells me the truth or she might get punished by her father, Beta Felix. He is a strict man and he won’t like it if he finds that his daughter made any sort of mistake in today’s ceremony.

Today is a big day for two packs.

The Midnight Pack and the Mystic Shadow Pack.

Father told me that both the packs are one of the strongest packs in the entire wolf’s clan and with this marriage... our ties are going to be rock solid. I let go of her cheeks as I wanted to be sure that she didn’t do anything idiotic.

“I lost.” She tried to keep her voice as low as she could and it sounded more like a whisper to me.

“What? What did you lose?” I asked her and she again looked at her feet.

She does that when she has messed up really badly.

“Rings. I lost the rings.” She scratched the back of her head and I just gazed at her with widened eyes.

What did she just say?

Did she lose the rings?

“How could you, Lisa? You are the ring bearer. I told you that I would give you the box when the ceremony started, but you couldn’t wait, right? We need to inform the elders.” I held her wrist, but she started to cry when I tried to take her to the elders.

“No... Father will punish me... don’t tell the elders, Serena. You are smart.” She is now praising me when she needs my help.

Let me think.

I could go to Aunt Audrey. She must be in the academy. I mean, she is a professor and she promised me that after wrapping the things at the academy, she would hurry back, but I don’t have the time to wait for her to come back. I need to go out and find her.

She might help me help.

I looked at the wall clock and it was still afternoon.

The wedding will take place in the evening and I will be back before that.

“Don’t tell anyone that you lost the rings and if someone asks about me... tell them that I went into the woods.” Lisa nodded her head and asked me to lower down a little and when I did, she simply gave a little peck on my cheeks.

I just can’t get angry at her.

My parents think that it’s not unusual for a she-wolf to spend most of the time in the woods and they don’t stop me when I feel like running in the woods.

Most of the werewolves shift at the age of sixteen and there are some cases of late bloomers also. I do want to meet my wolf, but that’s not important right now.

I took a shortcut to the academy, but even after walking for a while, I was not able to find the way out of the woods.

“Argh!” Someone growled in pain and, for some reason, I could feel that person was in a lot of pain, so I decided to check on that person. I was carrying a silver knife for my safety, but I hope that I don’t need to use it on anyone.

I tried to find the person and the moment I decided to give up, I saw blood stains on the ground. I followed the stains, but there was no one around. I looked some more, but I failed to find anyone.

Did I dream or did I seriously hear someone groaning in pain?

What’s the point? There is no one here now.

Shit!

I forgot about the rings.

I gazed up at the sky and the sun had already set.

It’s going to be night soon and the ceremony is going to end. I need to get back or that brother of mine is going to constantly nag me for being late at his ceremony.

I dashed towards the packhouse, but it took me some time to get back as I got confused. I never really explore the forest in the night-time.

Mother says that it’s not safe as rogues lurk in the woods at night time, but thankfully, I didn’t encounter any rogues on my way back. The ceremony is going to take place in the backyard of the packhouse. My brother specially asked the pack members to decorate everything in white as Nadia loved the white colour.

The moment I stepped my foot into our backyard, I was shocked to my core.

My mother and aunt were already lying on the ground and their throats were slit. My mother took her last breath when she saw my face and I believe that before closing her eyes, she smiled at me.

I covered my mouth and tears rolled down my cheeks when I saw Nadia stabbing Tyler with tears in her eyes, but before she could stab him again, he grasped the knife from her hand and stabbed her to death.

My brother fell to his knees when he faced me. He was yelling at me to run, but I was not able to think anything straight. Where is the father? Why is he not here? He would surely save us all. He is the strongest Alpha. Who did this? Beta Felix's body was lying and there I saw Lisa. She was crying and asking her father to get up. She promised him that she would never create any trouble for him and she would behave properly, but her father was no longer responding to her.

“Brother!” I dashed towards Tyler and after trying to wake him up, he finally opened his eyes a little.

He was smiling for my sake.

“I told you to run away, but you never listened to me. I told you... that the day I will be gone forever... you will be the one to cry the most. See, I was right, wasn’t I? There is something that I never told you. I did want... a younger brother, but when I held you in my arms... for the first time... I thanked the moon goddess for giving me a younger sister. Your brother really loves you, so live for me, Serena.” Tyler kept his hand on my face and a tear rolled down his cheek when he said his last words.

I tried to wake him up, but he was no longer responding.

“ Oh, look who we have here? Your daughter looks quite nice, Alpha Xander. No, I should now call you ex-Alpha Xander, right?” I saw the man who was responsible for my family’s miseries. He was holding my father while he was slowly slitting his throat in front of me.

“Live.” I heard my father’s last words and before I could do anything to help him, Alpha Paxton slit his throat with a smirk on his face and my father groaned in pain. The ground was covered with his blood and Paxton just threw his body away.

Lisa tried to run toward me, but before she could reach me someone shot her back with arrows and her little body fell on my lap. I looked up, only to find Asher.

He ran his fingers through his chocolate brown hair and his green eyes were fixed on me.

My hand and dress were covered with Lisa’s blood and this only made it impossible for me to speak anything.

“I always wanted to shoot someone to death. What are you going to do with that thing?” Asher pointed at me, but I was so engrossed in waking up my family that I didn’t care what they wanted to do with me.

“Mom, Father, Tyler, aunt Audrey, Lisa.... get up... you guys... this is not funny. Is this some sort of prank? I promise I will never be late again, so stop playing dead. Please... please wake up... I want you all... I never got the chance to tell you how much I love you... don’t do this to me.” I cried loudly while placing my head over my mother’s dead body.

The bastard Alpha grabbed me by my hair and he showed me to my remaining pack members.

“Let go of me, bastard! You might get this pack, but you will never earn respect like my father. Kill me now or one day you might get killed by me.” I looked straight into his eyes and he laughed.

“If your brother or father had even half of your courage, then they might not have died in this way. I do like bravery, but I don’t like the fact that you don’t have any fear for me in your eyes. I would let you live and I do want to set you as an example for the people who think that they might be able to stand against Alpha Paxton.” After saying those words to me... he made me a completely blind and mute person.

When they were about to take my vision, I looked at the bodies around me. That day they killed all my dreams and my hopes, but they failed to break me.

“You look quite good in wet clothes, Serena.” I got creeped out when I opened my eyes.

What is he doing here?

No, I would have to get out of here, but before I could move, he pushed me down and the mattress felt soft.

It was not my room, but his.

Those bastards!

They dropped me in Asher’s room.

“Say my name like you said when you met me for the first time,” Asher whispered in a deep husky voice and I only struggled to get freed from his grasp.

What should I do now?
