~ Serena's POV ~

“That should be my question. What do you want?” That man’s grey eyes were fixed on me and when he pushed back his black hair with a smile on his face, my head started to pain and I again started to cough out blood.

Wait!

How am I suddenly able to see things around me and did I just talk to him, how? Why did I suddenly call him my mate? I am not able to grasp the situation. I kept my hand on my throat and then I looked at the man who sat near me.

I tried to rub my eyes, but it was not a dream. I was able to clearly see the face of the man who held my wrist and helped me out in that situation, but I know for sure that he surely wanted something from me, but what? Kindness always comes with a price, but what could this person want from someone like me?

I looked up at the dark sky and the moon that was shining on us. Was the moon always this beautiful?

After so long, I heard these sorts of comforting words from someone. What do I want? Well, I would be lying if I told him that I didn’t need anything. He leaned closer to me and it was then that the scent of sandalwood mixed with lavender hit my nostrils.

The scent was enough to intoxicate me to the point where I started to hear a voice inside my head, ‘He is our mate. We need to have him by our side. You are still not strong enough to protect yourself.’

Who is she and why do I feel that she is trying to control me?

Am I hearing things now because of this man?

‘I am your wolf, Serena. You can call me Aster. I know that it’s been years of abuse and torture for you, but you are not alone now. I won’t force you to accept this man as our mate. It’s going to be your choice. I am ready to withstand any sort of pain. I am well aware that my pain won’t be anything compared to what you have to go through in this hellish packhouse.

From this day onwards, let’s share everything. The pain, happiness and even revenge. Oh, and happy birthday. You finally turned eighteen today.’ Aster was the only person who wished for me. She is ready to go through anything for my sake.

I did hear from aunt Audrey that once someone finds their mate, the wolf side usually persuades and tries to create a bond without asking that person’s permission. The wolves feel excited around their mates and it’s even worse for the she-wolves. From what I have known... even if the male werewolf cheats on his mate... the pain has to be solely borne by the woman.

Those she-wolves even then stay with their mates.

I used to laugh at them and the pathetic thing which they called love. They were all solely reacting because of their stupid mate bond. They were compelled to love that single person who was chosen by the moon goddess. How could I see such a thing as a blessing?

Brother Tyler loved Nadia with all his heart and, in the end, she stabbed him in his back. How am I supposed to believe in such a superficial thing when my brother died in front of my own eyes because of that so-called love?

Love, marriage, mate... I don’t want anything. I could feel the heated gaze of that man and when he leaned closer to me, I didn’t flinch or look back, I simply looked into his eyes. He wiped the blood around my mouth with the back of his hand. He helped me to get up and because of the sudden pull, I almost lost my balance, but before I could fall on the cold ground, the man pulled me closer to him by grabbing my wrist.

What is he doing?

I could feel his warm breath fanning over my face and I could even feel the way his body was reacting because of my touch. Is this happening because I am his mate? There is no way that someone like him would become enchanted by my beauty. He must have seen far more beautiful women than me. I could not believe that I was wearing a sheer dress.

If I am not wrong, he is one of the important guests, Cecilia. That girl will surely gauge out my eyes this time if she sees this man with me.

The man gently touched my cheeks while he looked into my eyes, “You must be feeling cold. Well, you still haven’t answered me. You might not know me, so let me introduce myself. I am Daemon. Alpha of the Dark Moon pack.”

Alpha Daemon.

I did hear that name from the other pack members when they were preparing for the party. Even those two who locked me in the stroke room talked about him. Aster is right. To become stronger I need to take help from this man. If I rejected him today, then I would become a playmate for that sick-minded guy. I can’t let them find out that I got my vision and voice back or they might try to kill me this time.

I will no longer remain an example for others, so Alpha Paxton might try to get rid of me for once and all.

He keeps asking me what I want, so I don’t think it would be wrong to tell him what I desire the most, right?

“You asked me what I wanted, right? All I want is revenge. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Will you be able to give me that?” I asked him a simple question, but he suddenly brought his face and body so closer to mine that I forgot to breathe for a second.

His lips were brushing against mine and his body was also pressed against mine. I could feel his hard body even though he was wearing a shirt. He definitely trains quite vigorously.

“Revenge? You do know that there is going to be shedding of blood if you want to take revenge, right? Are you ready to see such a sight? Are you ready to sacrifice people? Revenge is not a sweet thing.” He whispered those words to me in a deep husky voice and I got a little confused when he wrapped his arms around my waist.

Does he think that I am some sort of weak-hearted girl who would faint at the sight of blood? There was a time in my life when I loathed it, when people used to look down on me. He tucked my hair lock behind my ear and I only smirked at him.

“Well, I have forgotten the taste of sweets in the last ten years, so I seriously don’t care if revenge is a sweet thing or not, but I surely know that it will surely put my soul at ease,” I replied to him calmly and he looked quite satisfied with my response.

If I was like any normal she-wolf, then I would have fallen for his charm, but those people were right. He is a man with many faces. I remembered the story which my mother used to tell me when I was a child. Whenever a princess faces trouble... there is always a prince who will come to her rescue.

When I got a little older, I used to the thought that it was nothing more than a useless story where the girl always cries and waits for the prince. They treated me like a princess because I was the first girl in the Alpha couple. People were happy and they loved me. I used to have the thought that instead of the prince or princess, I would gladly accept the role of the villainess.

I can’t fully trust this man, so I can’t tell him about my powers. At least not for now. Trust is a fragile thing and instead of blindly following him, I am ready to wait. The true motive of his sudden interest in someone useless like me... there is surely some reason and I know that he won’t tell me anything, so I need to unravel the truth by myself.

“Stop frowning. It’s not like I am some sort of righteous person. Revenge, blood or whatever you want, I will give you the chance to prove yourself, so come with me and all you need to do is nod your head at the party. You don’t want people to find out about your sudden miraculous recovery, right?” I could easily hear his heartbeats and the way it was pounding.

I don’t know what he is going to do, but why the heck is he treating me so gently? Is this one of his tricks or is he genuinely worried about me?

Tears started to roll down my cheeks, but before I could wipe away my tears, Daemon suddenly grabbed me by my wrist. He was gazing at me with widened eyes, but before I could ask him anything, he kept his lips on mine.

What exactly is he trying to do?

My body trembled, but I was not disgusted by his touch. I usually hate it whenever someone tries to touch me, so why am I not able to push him away?

Don’t tell me that this is all happening because of the mate bond.

Initially, he was kissing me gently, but he suddenly started to thrust his tongue inside my mouth. My head was getting dizzy because of our sudden proximity, but he suddenly broke our kiss while he moved a little away from me.

What was that?

Why did he kiss me out of the blue?

“You... you are clumsy. Well, what was I expecting from a little girl? Don’t get me wrong. It happened because of your scent. I suddenly lost all my reasoning and my mind became clouded.” He looked into my eyes and I was still gasping for air.

Is he out of his mind?

“Well, sorry to be not not as experienced as you, Alpha Daemon, but I am not a little girl. I have just become an adult. It’s my eighteenth birthday, so stop calling me a little girl.” I was seriously mad at him, but instead of laughing at me, his eyes again became a little soft.

People say that he is a ruthless man, so why is he showing me such an expression?

Don’t tell me that he is pitying someone like me.

“Go with Aiden. He will help you with choosing new attire for you. I don’t want you to look like this when I make the big announcement at the party. Aiden is my Beta, so you could trust him that he won’t definitely harm you. I will tell you the details later, but we don’t have much time in hand now.

If you are willing to go against Alpha Paxton, then I am ready to offer you my help, but the question is, are you willing to take the risk of accepting my help?” He forwarded his right hand towards me and I looked at him with a confused expression on my face.

What does he mean by those words?

Why this man is willing to help me out is still a question for me, but for now... only for this moment, I want to believe in him.

I accepted the hand that he forwarded to me and Daemon didn’t say anything after that. I followed Aiden and there were a few people who were waiting for us with lots of new dresses. Did he ask his people to bring all this stuff for me?

They were waiting outside the greenhouse. There were not many people who were aware of the hidden room inside the greenhouse, so I asked them to leave the dresses and go out and, without any question, they listened to me.

I was finally left alone. There were many beautiful gowns, but a grey tulle A-line with a V-neck caught my eye. The evening dream length was long and the beads on the dress looked beautiful. The colour of this dress reminded me of that man’s eyes. I never thought that I would get the chance to wear this sort of dress in this life of mine.

I changed into that dress and I was still holding the jacket that he had given me.

When I changed into the new dress, I went out of the greenhouse, but before I could take another step, there were a few other females who again pushed me inside and they started to do my make-up. They must be the pack members of the Dark Moon pack.

Did that man call them for my sake, but why?

After they were done with the makeover, they asked Aiden to bring the Alpha and he just nodded his head.

“So, you are finally ready, huh?” My back was facing him, so when I turned around to look at him, nothing came out of his mouth. He stared at me for a few good minutes.

I shouldn’t have too many expectations of myself.

Cecilia was right. Nice and beautiful dresses are wasted on someone like me.

“Shall we?” The man again confused me with his smile and this time, without thinking too much, I simply held his hand.

He said that he was going to make a big announcement, but what exactly was he planning to do?

Only for a while... I am going to get his help only for a little while and after that, I will surely forget everything about this man.
