TWENTY-ONE Another day shot by, the trainees causing time to accelerate with their enthusiastic, cheerful demeanours lightening the day. Steve enjoyed their company, believed he could achieve a great deal with them. They responded well, and he got through his work with ease. Later that same afternoon, Brigit caught him in the corridor as the trainees trailed out, the look on her face telling him something wasn’t right.
