Chapter Five Daphne Standing on the beach, I breathed in the crisp, briny air while soaking in the view. The icy cold waters of Kachemak Bay lapped at my feet as small waves broke along the shoreline. My eyes landed on a deep red piece of rock, and I leaned over to lift it out of the cold water. It was light, and I guessed it was probably a piece of hardened lava. Drying it on my jeans, I tucked it into my pocket and continued to walk along the shore.
