Attitude

Even though it was still early in the morning, I was already in the training arena. I should be sleeping right now if it was just some regular days, but because I need to fill the position of my ailing father, I have no option but to face the challenge. I suppose a month of self-sacrifice wouldn't be such a horrible thing. However, just thinking of the following days with restrictions and tasks at hand, it feels like I couldn't bear it. This was the last thing I would have done in this lifetime, yet certain situations left me with no choice. If not for my parents, there's no way I would serve the pack, especially the Alpha. It's not in my vocabulary to take orders as I am my own boss. "Yah, Solene. Stop dozing off. Look at the female warriors! Is this what your father taught you, ha?" I rolled my eyes after hearing the feeling superior omega. Atticus is my father's colleague, both old and feeble. Whenever I see him, he appears to be in his menopausal period as he was always grumpy. Besides, it looks like I am the only person he's treating in that manner. Sometimes I often ask myself what I did in this pack to be treated like a dark horse. "Do your job. I wonder how Saint manages to raise a useless daughter," Atticus murmurs just enough for me to hear it. I plaster a smirk at his remarks. If he thinks his words could affect me, he is mistaken. I've heard the same recycled phrases over and over again, but I don't give a damn about any of them. As long as those words don't come from my parent's mouths, they can't wobble my emotions. Somehow, I understood Atticus, and how he turned out to be such a bitter old man is probably the result of not having a successor. He'll definitely labor himself to death till he's nothing but skin and bones. "Sir, do you know that people who don't have a child are cursed? I wonder if the moon goddess had cursed you. That's why she hasn't blessed you with one," I mutter after he keeps on attacking me, which makes him stunned for a couple of minutes. I am not insulting him, though; I was just mainly spitting what our ancestors believed for ages. Well, Atticus is starting to get on my nerves, and he is pretty vexing. He needs minor fixing. "Your mother is so much better than you. As the beta's daughter, shouldn't you pay respect to the older generation?" he murmurs once again. My brow furrowed in response to his words. He was the first one who ruined my mood and messed up with me. Yet, now he talks about respect. But does he know how to use it? I personally think that respect begets respect. Thus, if you offered me one, I'd give you the same courtesy. But he didn't give it to me, and he wanted me to be kind to him? In his hairy balls, he could have my respect unless he's more valuable than gold, but he's only a measly omega, a brittle one, I assume. For now, if he wants a peaceful life, it's better for him to not give a damn about my life, or else he'll experience hell. When I heard the bell, I instantly got out of my seat, since it meant training had ended. Female warriors train in the morning, while male warriors train in the afternoon. Though these timetables are only temporary because the men's arena is still under construction, which is why they keep it altered. It's a good thing, too, since I can go for a stroll in the afternoon. To think that both father and mother were still in the hospitals made it easy for me to just do what I wanted. I wouldn't have anything to worry about unless that blasted Alpha would not mess with my things. "Lunch is ready, Solene. Your mother came here an hour ago and told me to give this handbook to you. She says all the things you need to do as your dad's substitute is written here," Anita uttered as I entered the house. She immediately handed me a dusty old book that seemed produced ages ago. Phew! "She said you need to read each of them carefully," she added. I only nodded my head, raising the book into mid-air in the sense of approval. It appears that my work entails a lot more than just training female fighters. I instantly changed into a loose-fitting outfit as I chose to explore Kumuri Falls today. I haven't been there for months, and I'm in desperate need of a refresher. I put the book on my vanity table since I don't want to read it for now. I'll just read it once I'm back. "Where are you going, Solene?" she began," I forgot to tell you that your mother told me not to let you out of the house. She strictly prohibited you from going out unless the one-month sub is done," Anita declared while scanning my outfit. "It was stated in the handbook that you will serve the Alpha every afternoon after the training," she added, which made my blood boil. I know Jace isn't sick, so is he required to be served? Is he really that important? The audacity of them to make me a prisoner. I've already accepted the job; shouldn't they have the decency to allow me to do the things that would help me relax? I desperately need to unwind right now. I feel like I'll be sick once I can't get out of this cage. "Anita, can you help me with this one? This will be the last time, I swear." I had no option left but to persuade the old lady. Anita used to cover me up whenever I made a mistake in the past, but her look is unchanged right now. So, she doesn't want to help me either? Fine, they give me no choice. "I'm afraid I can't assist you with this one; the Alpha himself had CCTV installed on each side of the house to monitor you. You had no chance to escape, Solene." I stamped my feet in annoyance before heading back to my room. I even heard Anita talking about lunch, but I lost my appetite. Why does it appear like I've become a bird...cage in my own home? Even though all I did was sub my father, that filthy jerk wanted to take away my freedom. He was mistaken if he thought he could tame me by doing this. I had my ways, and my wants will always prevail. I put a teddy bear on my bed and cover it with a quilt in case the woman looks out for me—and she will think I'm asleep. I instantly changed into Anita's outfit and escaped through the back door. The back door is a hidden passageway, similar to a tunnel that only my family knows about. It's pretty unlikely that Jace was aware of that as well. I inhaled a breath of fresh air as I successfully made my exit and started to trail down towards the Kumuri Falls.
