Sheyken walked through the restaurant and set next to Beak- hyun while putting his Katana underneath the table. The restaurant wasn't that big, only around 70 square meters with a few tables and chairs and few people having something to eat. It was an old restaurant in which Beak - hyun introduced him to and as soon as he tested his first sundubujjigae, it was love at first bite. Beak - hyun was born in Pyeongteak and knew every corner of the city. His parents work for Armed Robotics too and he went to the same military school as Sheyken.
The first time he saw him, Sheyken was beating up three kids who were trying to gang up on him while making fun of his brown skin and English accent. Well, of course, they got an arse-kicking they would never forget, but Sheyken did not even understand what they were saying at the time. He just saw three kids trying to bully him and he was having none of it. After a kick, one jab, and an uppercut, two kids were laying on the floor knocked out and one was crying while yelling 'mama'.
'It is amazing how they only remember their moms in times of crises.'
Sheyken thought.
This happened on the very first day he attended school and Beak - hyun was impressed, but Sheyken was appalled at his performance. He wanted to knock out all three of them. In those days, that was how he measured his strength since he couldn't break their bones. His motto from a very young age was ' Winning is making sure that your opponent can no longer get back up again' especially when you are in a numerical disadvantage. No one would want his opponents getting back up after you thought you were done with them while being surrounded.
Beak - hyun came to him and mastered out what little English he knew, trying to talk to him.
" N... nice .....blackout.....they make ....f....fun .....your skin."
Sheyken could understand what he was saying. He smiled back at him and shrugged his shoulders. By that time, a teacher had come out and took the kids to be checked out. He never got punished. This was a military school. It was either you toughen up or got eaten by others. After Finding out that they were in the same class, they became friends. Beak - hyun teaching him Korean and Sheyken teaching him English in their spare time. They would train together and invent their own moves to surprise their opponents in the fighting competitions held by the army.
One day, when they were 11 years old, they saw a video of a Kung Fu master being humiliated while being beaten up by an M.M.A (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter in the ring. He understood at that moment that the world doesn't standstill. It keeps on moving and if you don't keep on adapting you will be left behind. He looked at the video again and saw so many flaws in the M.M.A fighter. His moves were sloppy and his punches lacked precision. The only thing allowing him to play with his opponent was because his opponent's move's lacked variety. The Kung Fu master was winning in hand-to-hand combat but lacking in many other aspects. It seemed like the M.M.A fighter head studied his opponent and trained in variations of styles in order to counter his opponent's moves and it worked perfectly.
Before that day, Sheyken had lost only twice in the tournaments and that video opened up his eyes to the world of fighting. After that, every chance he got, he went to a Dojo and tried to master their techniques. He would dedicate himself a whole year in one Dojo and he managed to get the grabs off many teachings but centered his fighting style around Taekwondo, Judo, Swordplay, and Kung Fu. He loved Swordplay the most and was introduced to a Swordmaster by his coach but the most fun he had was when a W.W.E wrestler came to visit the camp and stayed for two months. Learning entertainment wrestling was fun for even a kid like him.
He would practice boxing and the other martial arts he learned when he was on duty and try to incorporate them into his own fighting style. He was by no means a genius or even mastered those styles, but he took the best of each and made it his own. This resulted in a 50-match winning streak and most important of all, respect from his colleagues which goes a long way in the military.
Maybe that's why the females would smile at him from time to time and never miss to laugh at his cringy jokes, but he would like to put his good looks and charm at the forefront for those results. The only four losses after that came about because at that point he treated the tournament as a training ground, trying new techniques and only lost in points. His friend only won 28 of the 55 matches he participated in. He wasn't a fighting maniac like Sheyken.
Beak - hyun was 19 years old just like him, about 1.7 meters tall, average weight, his hair was cut short, typical for a soldier, and had dark brown eyes. He had an average face such that you couldn't pick him out from a crowd. He was wearing the same kind of army uniform Sheyken was wearing.
"Playboy....you finally arrived."
Beak - hyun said while smiling. Sheyken hated that word because he never even dated before.
"Who are you calling a Playboy, 50/50."
Sheyken replied.
50/50 was Beak - hyun's nickname because whenever he fought, he had a 50/50 chance of winning.
"Why are you acting like you are all innocent? Just because you don't go out with the girls that everyone could tell liked you, it doesn't mean you are not a playboy. Each time you say no to a girl that confesses her love for you, don't you know you breaking her heart. Tell us almighty Casanova...how many girls do you have dancing at the beating of your heart?"
This guy was clearly tipsy.
Sheyken was not yet convinced of the notion that a girl would confess to you. He just thought they were leading him on or were playing a betting game to see who would woo him away. Maybe his English blood wanted a girl that was unreachable who he would try to conquer her heart, so until then, he would put all his testosterone in his training. Since Beak - hyun was already tipsy, he decided to lead him on.
"Well, I'll have you know that I was just with Sarah. We spent almost two hours with just the two of us, which is why I was a little late."
Sheyken said with an evil smile. He was having one of those evil laughs in his mind as well. Beak - hyun face went to one of horror.
"Sheyken you betrayer.... your heart is as dark as Darth Vader. You so evil such that even a Lightsaber couldn't kill you if they put it up in your arse!"
Beak -hyun never called him by his name unless he wanted to say vail things to him whenever he wanted to soothe his heart. You can guess how his love life was. He only had one relationship with a girl in his life and got dumped because she said he was too perfect and they never fight about anything. At that point, he did not know what girls wanted and so, it all went downhill from there, but he always liked Sarah. That is why Sheyken was singing sweet sounds in his heart while being told a Lightsaber being put up his arse wouldn't kill him. They both loved to watch movies and any reference they made would be centered around them.
Time went by as they talked about sweet nothing, while insults would fly from time to time. It was getting late and before it was time to leave, Sheyken went to the toilet to relieve his bladder. He had not drunk that much, just that he had been holding it in ever since his meeting with Sarah. As he was coming out of the toilet, he heard muffled sounds, almost like space lasers fire ring.
When he finally walked into the dining hall, he got there only to find that everyone in the restaurant was dead and blood everywhere. When he looked where he and Beak - hyun were sitting, he saw a man with a blurry face wearing the same uniform they were wearing, with a K2 assault rifle pointing at Beak - hyun's head. At that moment he and his friend's eyes met, but there was nothing he could do for him because a second later, Beak- hyun was dead. His head had been blown off.
Sheyken was calm ... Infect he had never been this calm. He was so calm such that in his calmness, he was going to calmly kill this man.
