In a room set two people. One male and the other female. Looking at the two of them you would think that this was an interrogation room until you looked at the sign mounted on the top side of the door that reads 'Psychologist'. This was Sarah's office. A psychologist the army recently hired.
"You won't die, why are you sweating so much when you are the one who asked for me to be here?"
A silvery voice rang out. Her voice sweeter than usual such that it could calm down even a man on the verge of death. The man lifted up his head and finally noticed the beauty in front of him. Sarah wore a grey blouse, black jacket and a white H-line skirt that clearly outlined her curves. She had her arms folded underneath her cleavage which unfortunately for the young man ever so innocently shouted out "look what my mama gave me." With her blond hair and blue eyes, no one could blame you if you mistake her for a westerner.
The man in front of her was Sheyken Lewis. 1.8-meter tall, dark hair, brown eyes and brown skin. He was wearing his camouflage dark grey soldier uniform with black boots. He spoke perfect Korean, enforcing the fact that he had stayed in South Korea for a long time.
"Sheyken !!, please came back to earth, would you!"
Her tone was gradually raising but still professional. Making Sheyken feel welcomed was her top priority at the moment. When he came out of his stupor, she finally smiled. She introduced herself and let out her hand to shake his, which he shook awkwardly.
"I'm the military psychologist which you asked for. I must say that this is the first time someone who has not shown any signs of a psychological breakdown, is in top condition and without prior deployment on the battlefield has asked to see me. People are afraid to talk about their personal issues....or should I say some are. I guess things change."
Sarah said.
Sheyken looked at her intently and smiled. This made her frown because in her mind she thought that his smile was so cute. She had heard some gossip about him. He always tends to steal a smile from the ladies around him. They say it is hard for them to hate him even though he never dated any of them. Some catfights have been reported breaking out because of some girls claiming to be his girlfriend. It was just ridiculous. This of course did not sit well with the male soldiers and they would always try to pick a fight with him over the most trivial things which Sheyken never failed to rise to the occasion. Some fights he won, some he got his arse handed to him and in some, he ran from like an Olympic sprinter with his tail between his legs because they wanted to gang up on him. He never went into a fight he couldn't win unless he couldn't avoid it.
"You look beautiful and I like the smell of the perfume you using. I did not know that psychologists put so much effort into their first impressions."
Sarah was starting to turn red but she did not want to fall for this playboy wanna-be and she had a boyfriend. She was still angry at the fact that they asked her to come work on her day off.
"Cough!, cough!, thank you. It was my day off and I'm going out after our session ends, but even though I was off today, I could never shy away from someone that needs my help. So, why did you need to talk to me?"
Sheyken liked her professionalism.
"Someone or should I say something is trying to kill me."
Sarah was taken aback by his sentence, but she was a soldier herself. She had to deal with some of these issues.
"Why did you not go to the general or the police first and ask for help."
"They cannot help"
Sarah's eyebrow went up. This was a first but she had to get more information before she started to make decisions.
"Ok, let's start with who or what is trying to kill you."
Sheyken sighed because he knew that this conversation was going to start to take a turn he couldn't avoid.
"A white truck"
She was disappointed. She thought that it would be multiple times worse than someone trying to run him over with a truck, but as she started thinking about it, she started sweating bullets. She started to think that maybe he was involved in these conspiracies some people talk about. Maybe he saw something he shouldn't have or he was a drug dealer and they wanted to take him out.
This would explain why he couldn't go to the general or the police. Since he was here and telling her his deep dark secrets, she thought he was pulling her deep into the spider web. No one knows how she thought of those possibilities and started assuming the worst but if you took time to know her, you would know that what she really was, was a scaredy-cat. Being a psychologist was as close to danger as she could afford to be.
"Sarah!!....."
Sheyken shouted.
It seemed like she was lost in her thoughts for a while. This time it was her turn to come out of her stupor. He did not know why she was sweating like he was at the begging of their conversation. He just needed someone to talk to and tell her what was going on around him. He couldn't go to his friend Beak- hyun. He was the only friend he had and he just did not want him to think he was crazy.
"Sarah.....do you watch anime, read web novels or manga?"
Sarah was dumbfounded.
'What is this guy talking about all of a sudden? Wasn't someone trying to kill him?'
She thought.
She calmed down and answered him since she wanted to know where the conversation was going with this.
"Yes....I have watched some anime. I am not into them but my brother makes me watch them with him when I visit home. I have to say that some of them are pretty interesting. Makes me wonder how the authors think of the worlds they portray."
It was amazing how she could go from a train wreck to being professional in seconds.
"Alright then, that will make things easier to explain. In some of the anime you have watched, there is a person who dies and gets reincarnated into another world."
Sarah was not liking where this was going and failed to hide it.
Sheyken continued.
"In some instances, there is a white truck that kills the protagonist. Well, that is the very same truck that has been trying to kill me since I got my week off. I have a feeling I know why."
Sarah was fuming inside and happy at the same time. Not so long ago she was thinking she would be involved in some dark secret but it turned out this guy was just plain crazy. How he was still in the military, who knows?, but at least he wasn't one of those guys who are trigger-happy. He just liked swords.
'How the heck was that not a red flag that something was wrong with him.'
She thought.
The only thing she could be happy about is that at least she really needed to do her job and bring this guy back to Earth, but he couldn't be allowed to be a soldier, it was just asking for a deserter. She decided to go with the flow and faked a shock. She thought she was sly as ever.
"Ow really??.... never thought that those things were real. So why would anyone want to take you to another world?"
Sarah asked.
Sheyken was not a genius but he wasn't stupid either. He knew that if he told her this, he could kiss his army days goodbye. He just smiled when Sarah was trying to earn an Oscar with her acting, he hoped that maybe she could have the answer he was looking for.
"Ever since I was born, I never felt like I belonged to this world. I could feel a vague sense like I was lost here. At the same time, my heart was telling me to get stronger. I don't know why, but I followed it. When I was five years old, we moved here... to South Korea and luckily my parents took me to military school since my father worked for Armed Robotics. To be honest....I never felt close to them, but I still love them even though they died.....but back to the subject. I felt I had to be good at combat, hand to hand, and especially with a dagger or the katana you know I always carry. I am average in my academics but I feel free when training or in combat even though I'm not the best of the best."
Sarah was listing to him carefully as it seemed like they were getting closer to where he started to get his screws loose and it seemed like it started when he was a child. She asked him if she could take a look at his file before he continued so she can get the full picture of his military background. He didn't have any problems with that. She had rushed here and was not able to check his file before they started their session. Sarah took the file on her desk beside her and started to read.
Name - Sheyken Lewis
Age - 19
Weight- 78 kg
Nationality – South Korean
Other features - brown eyes, dark hair and brown skin tone.
Father - Daniel Lewis, worked for Armed Robotics, dead- heart disease.
Mother - Katharina Lewis/ Miles, housewife, dead - car accident.
Amy background - Academics (moderate), martial arts (good to excellent), weapon (good to excellent), Teamwork ( can be a leader) relations ( if undercover he has a 50/50 chance to be caught.
Tournament - wins (76), losses (6). Coaches remarks.....needs to stop being fixated on that sword of his otherwise we could have had an unbeatable streak.
Gun kata - A kata he and his friend Baek- hyun saw while watching a movie and are trying to perfect it in order to introduce it to the army. It is a kata that is meant to be useful for when you find yourself in a situation where your opponent is at a distance while pointing a gun at you. You need to move your body in such a way that it would be hard for your opponent to pinpoint your movements until you close the distance. You have to try to move faster than the person's reaction, eyes and hand coordination. Out of 100 tries in practice, he has only been able to close the distance to his opponent without getting hit 10 times. He says it is still better than being at your opponent's mercy. The reason it has a low survival rate is that his opponents know he is going to try and close the distance.
Other remarks - a soldier everyone would want on their team. Never try to take him down with any sharp object unless you want to die. You have little chance to beat him in hand-to-hand combat but he is not much of a firearms person. Warning - don't fight using anything the length of a sword. I still have goosebumps when I see him use that sword of his. I should have never introduced him to a Swordmaster. If this world was not run with firearms, he could be considered a genius.
Sarah was dumbstruck.
"His superior's remarks are good and he knows how to fight, but this guy seems to think he is in the 1700s."
She thought.
