I wake up to Carol screaming. f**k! I run off to her room and she is crying and screaming. I pick her up.
"Hush baby... It's okay... Daddy's got you. You are fine." I rub her back trying to calm her down. She keeps on thrashing in my arms trying to get off. I hold onto her tighter trying not to drop her.
"No! No! No!!! Let me go!!! Leave me you bastard! f**k off!" she scratches and bites me all that she can. God, I should have worn my shirt.
"Hush... It's okay... Carol... You're safe... I got you." I rub her back and hold her close to me.
Seeing no way out of my arms and party because she has exhausted herself with all the screaming she starts crying. Christian comes in with a bottle of warm milk.
"Thank you."
She takes the bottle after she has done all the crying that she could have managed and falls asleep in my arms.
"I thought the nightmares stopped."
"She didn't have them for the past three weeks. I don't know what happened again." I tell him.
"Did she tell you what were they about?"
"Well, the new ones are from her visit to the doctor. Not that I blame her. She'll try to run away again. Can you switch on all the alarms and activate all the locks from my phone? It's in the bedroom."
He goes and brings back my phone and does the needful.
"I can stay over today."
That would be so nice. Carol will have two vampires to scratch, bite and shout expletives at.
"I thought you had an early morning meeting."
"I do, but I am sure I can manage. I have a couple of draftsmen working for me, I am sure they'll manage without me for one day."
"No, go. I'll manage here. I'll call you if I am not able to." I say and yawn. God, I am exhausted. It's four in the morning. We finally went to sleep only thirty minutes ago and then this happens.
"If you're sure.." He strokes her hair and kisses her forehead. I can't help but smile at them. They're perfect.
He gets up to leave. He stays next house so it's pretty convenient.
"Grey... I still have two of those shots left. G said I could give them to her. It'll help her relax and stuff. She'll feel better when she wakes up. Do you reckon I should..?"
"Well, if you want to do it, do it now. You won't be able to give her a shot all by yourself."
I decide to. I have had enough broken furniture and violence in my house these three months. I will snap if there is any more of it. I carefully hand Carol to Grey and go to fetch the shot.
Grey holds her in his embrace. Her hands and legs locked into his. I rub the alcohol on her thigh. I can't bring myself to poke her with the needle. She is going to hate it. Why am I doing it? I am her daddy, I am supposed to protect her and not hurt her.
Christian gently gives the sleeping baby into my arms and takes the syringe from my hand.
He stabs the needle in her thigh.
I hate him for a second there.
She wakes up and starts crying.
"Hush baby, daddy's sorry. So sorry. It's okay, you'll be fine. Shh... It's alright. You're fine. I got you."
I bring her back to my bedroom so that I am right there in case she wakes up again.
I don't see Christian leaving.
