After napping on an airport floor in Buenos Aires for a few hours, they’d flown to São Paulo, Brazil, with three teams—red, orange, and purple. Now, eight racers waited to board the same flight to Johannesburg. From first place to a tie for fourth. Funny, but Millie didn’t seem to mind that others had caught up to them. Based on her smile, she enjoyed the interaction with the other contestants, especially the woman from the orange team, sitting next to her. “It could be worse,” the woman in orange said. “All the teams could be here.” The others laughed.
