Eleven and a half hours later, rays of sunlight peeked through the horizon. Not used to being up this early, Millie stood in the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face. She felt better physically. She’d filled her stomach with delicious food from an overflowing buffet of local dishes, washed the dirt and sweat away in a not-so-hot shower, and slept ten hours on a more-comfortable-than-it-looked cot in a lodge on Lake Atitlan, but emotionally she was a wreck. Not about the race itself, but being with Jace. Reliving what happened during The Groom was one thing, but this unexpected—unwanted—attraction to him was another. The GroomMillie shivered, knowing her reaction had nothing to do with the cool morning air and high elevation. She didn’t blame him for rejecting her in the past.
