“Hey I am home from school mom and dad I love you both,” I say as I walk in the door.
“How was your day sweetheart,” asks my dad in an inquisitive tone.
“It was okay dad, I am just exhausted, so I think that I will just go rest for a while.”
“Alright hun, we are just going to save you a plate in case you wake up hungry,” replies my mother.
“Alright, thank you, mom, and dad,” I say exhausted and worn out.
After another annoying morning alarm, it is, officially time to get ready for school. I go to take a shower and then head back to my room to get dressed, already loathing the walk to school.
It seemed to be a strange day today. As I head to my class I see my best friend Kennedy and walk up to give her a hug to which she replies,” Hey girl have you noticed how weird today has seemed?”
“Yeah, it seems like they know something that we do not.”
“Oh well how about we just get to class and get this day over with already, Sophie says as we walk to another dull day of class.
Luckily the day passes quickly, and before I know it I am already reaching for my front door. Hmm, that is weird, I think to myself, I know that I locked the door before I left to go to school.
“Mom, dad I am home from school,” I yell inside, only to receive no reply. “Hello?” I ask, now a little worried. “Dad, mom? Where are you?”
Then I suddenly hear, “Hello, are you Miss Jozie Marie Daniel's?” and it nearly scares me to death.
“Yes… May I ask who you might be and what you are doing in my house, and where my parents are?”
“We are with the police, miss.”
“What then, why are you here at my house?”
“ We regret to inform you, but both of your parents have passed away.”
My heart drops instantly as my head starts to swarm with questions, “How is that even possible? I saw them just last night before I went to bed.”
“I am sorry miss, but is there anyone that you may be able to stay with?”
At this point I start sobbing with the realization that I have got nobody else, “No there, unfortunately, is, unfortunately, I have no other family, I have nobody, please just one last time please just let me see them.”
“I am sorry miss, but that is impossible because they have already been cremated.”
That seems sketchy but who am I to argue with the police.
And that is how I came to be this homeless wanderer, hitchhiking wherever I go, surviving by whatever means necessary.
My only family passed away when I was only fourteen years old, ending my previous life and starting this new pitiful excuse for a life… I am now twenty-two years old and still unfortunately homeless. I barely manage to get by every day by singing in different parts of New York for scraping small amounts of cash if I am lucky. Day by day I wander from place to place trying to stay alive…
