Chapter 10: Trick

“Eric, is that really you?” Jamie said as she ran up to him. She threw her arms around him. “Of course, who do you think it is?” Eric said as he hugged her back. “I have missed you so much!” Jamie said her voice started to break with emotion.  “And I have you!” Eric said as he kissed her on the lips, moaning in pleasure as his tongue entered her mouth. Jamie’s mind registered that something was not quite right. Eric normally tasted like brown sugar and spices, not the acidic taste she tasted now. Eric broke the kiss and asked, “Is everything OK, my love?  “Yes, of course, I am just so happy to see you!” Jamie said. “I know, I am sorry I let myself get kidnapped!” Eric said softly. “It is not your fault, it is mine! I failed to protect you!” Jamie said sadly, her eyes filling with tears. “Shhh, I know, I know! It is not your fault the Empress is more powerful than you.” Eric said as Jamie started to cry. Eric continued, “Why else would you let me still be in Kyronus? Or, is it because you love me less than Richard? “No, of course not Eric! I love you just as much, you know this!” Jamie said. “Oh, really? Then why am I still in Kyronus? Have you forgotten me already?” Eric said in a harsh tone. “You won't be for long, I promise my love! I am coming to rescue you!” Jamie assured him. Eric smiled and said, “Really? Are you in the Chaos realm?” “Yes, so please hang on!” Jamie said reassuringly.  “But, the security is very good here, my love!” Eric pointed out. “I know!” Jamie said. “So, how are going to get through it? You must be having help, am I right?” Eric asked. “I….” Jamie started to say. Her inner Trickster Queen was screaming a warning in her mind. All her rogue training was telling her not to say anything. You never revealed plans to anyone, especially those who asked. “Come on Blackwell, this is me you are talking to!” Eric said with a dashing smile. “Blackwell?” Jamie said with a frown. Eric never called her by her second name, especially since she became his Trickster Queen. “That is your name isn’t it?” Eric said. “Your light guides me, “ Jamie suddenly said. “What?” Eric said looking confused. Jamie repeated what she had said, “Your light guides me!” “And so does yours, my sweetheart! Now, about who is helping you, maybe I can offer guidance?” Eric said. Jamie took a step back and said coldly, “Who are you?” “Darling, I am one of your fated mates, Eric, the King of the Rogues. Surely, you have not forgotten me?” Eric said, looking slightly nervous. Jamie’s body suddenly started to glow purple as she said, “My mate would know our wedding vows, especially as he repeats them frequently to me! How dare you impersonate my Mate?” Jamie quickly shifted into a large white bear with large silver claws. Jamie got up on her hind legs and roared a challenge in furry before swiping at Eric. Eric’s body went flying and hit the ground with a thud. Before he could get up, Jamie was over him, bearing down. Her sharp teeth inches away from Eric’s face, growling. “I will ask you one more time, who are you?” “She is the Empress’s spy, sleepwalker and general slut!” A familiar voice said. Jamie turned and saw Lux, Richard and Amaethon standing near her. Amaethon was the only one that looked happy. “We have finally found you!” Amaethon mind linked happily whilst wagging his tail. Jamie spent too long looking at them and paid dearly for that mistake. Eric’s hands suddenly shifted into claws and swiped at Jamie’s face. Jamie felt the sting and was blinded for a second, allowing Eric to escape Jamie’s grasp. Eric was starting to get away, but Jamie shifted back into her human form and called to her Earth element. Suddenly, Eric was captured by an Obsidian rock giant.  “You are not Eric!” Earth said grumpily. “No, s**t, rock for brains!” Eric said before his body shimmered and turned into a woman with deathly white, dark green hair and blood-red eyes. “Still no manners I see, Ryraith!” Lux said in a sharp tone. “You were not complaining about my manners when I was sucking your c**k!” Ryraith retorted. Jamie raised an eyebrow in surprise and looked at Lux before saying, “She is your fated mate?“ Ryraith scoffed and said, “Yeah right! Like I would ever be mated to a dirty hybrid!”  Lux growled and said, “Which is ironic coming from a Nachzehrer, a hybrid of a ghoul and a vampire! To answer your question Princess, no, she is not my fated mate. Ryraith was ordered by the Empress to spy on me, by pretending to love me!” “Oh, are you still sore about that? What a shame!” Ryraith said sarcastically and with a cruel smile. “Enough, you treacherous pit demon! Tell us why you are here! Unlike my Mate, I will not ask you again. Instead, I will let Amon feed on your soul’s essence and you will spend eternity being devoured in the void!” Richard threatened. Richard’s eyes turned black and his fangs started to grow, a sign he was serious. Jamie saw a look of worry flash over Ryraith’s face before being replaced by a confident look. Ryraith said, “I am here on behalf of the rightful ruler of the Chaos Realm.” Richard growled at this and Ryraith quickly continued, “ The glorious and just Empress knows The Moonchild is in her territory uninvited.” “Only because she has stolen my mate!” Jamie snapped and Ryraith smiled.  “Get to the point, Ryraith!” Lux said. “In order to keep the peace, she is willing to overlook the transgression,” Ryraith said. “How magnanimous of the Empress! Tell us, what is the price for such kindness?” Richard growled. “That the Moonchild swears allegiance to the Empress and exchanges herself for her Mate!” Ryraith said with a smile. Before Jamie could say anything, she felt herself being pulled back and enclosed protectively in a large black wing. Richard had fully turned into Amon, who was furious. “How dare you? How dare you steal Eric from us?” Amon roared as his body started to glow black. A black shimmering band formed on Ryraith’s neck and she started to gasp. “You have then invaded my fated Mate’s and tricked her! You then have the insolence of suggesting my Mate should hand herself into that w***e! I warned you once Ryraith, and now you will pay the price!” Amon said.  Ryraith gasped and said, “No! Please, my Lord!” As Amon made the band shrink, causing her to choke. “I rather you didn’t do that in my Realm.” The calm voice of Niorun said. The God of Dreams appeared serenely as always. “Uncle!” Jamie said happily as she tried to get out of Amon’s wing. However, Amon only growled and tightened his wing around her. “Release her!” Niorun ordered. “My Lord!” Lux protested. “I said release her!” Repeated Niorun in a tone that indicated that he was not going to be argued with. Ryraith smiled smugly as Earth put her down and Amon released his hold on her. “Thank you for rescuing me, Lord Niorun! It is nice to see that some beings still have manners in this Realm!” Ryraith said. “Rescue you?” Niorun asked. “Why, yes! You just rescued me from these beasts!” Ryraith said, confused. “Oh, my Dear, I did not rescue you! As you rightly said, you are in my realm and therefore any transgressions will be punished by me!” Niorun said. “What?” Ryraith said quietly.  “Yes, I mean you did attack my Niece in my Realm. Did you honestly think you were going to get away with it?” Niorun asked. “I….I..” Ryraith started to say. “What? You didn’t realise that the Moonchild was my Niece? It is well known, her mother is the Moon Goddess for chaosing sake!” Niorun pointed out. “Yes, of course, I did, but.. “ Ryraith said, starting to squirm. “So, you knew she was my Niece and decided to use my Realm to attack her! Well, there is a price to pay for such impertinence!” Niorun said before he whistled.  Suddenly, four border collie shaped dogs made out of the black mist appeared, barking with excitement. Jamie recognised them instantly as the dogs she created to herd the fear moths. “Oh, my sweet babies, are you hungry? Are you?” Niorun cooed as the black dogs ran around and yapped in reply. “Good! Now, hunt and feed!”  The dogs suddenly stopped and began to change. Instead of border collie size, they grew into bear sized wolves with red eyes and sharp teeth.  “I suggest you run, my dear. You won’t die here, but you will feel like you are dying when you are ripped apart by my pets. It will happen over and over again!” Niorun said factually. “I can just wake up!” Ryraith said dismissively as she eyed up the huge wolves who were growling. “Aye, but you will have to sleep sometime and they will be waiting! Now, I am going to count to ten. One.” Niorun said as one of the wolves threw back its head and howled. Ryraith gasped and started to run away at full speed. “Two. Three. You need to run faster than that!” Niorun shouted over the growls. “Four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten. Go my babies, go!” The giant wolves howled with joy as they sprung into action. They raced after Ryraith and disappeared into the distance. Niorun then looked at Lux and Amaethon before saying, “Care for some refreshments?” “Why not?” Lux said as Niorun opened a portal to his study. They all walked through, leaving Jamie and Amon alone. Amon released Jamie from his wing. He looked directly into Jamie’s eyes and said, “ I think we need to talk, don't you?”
