"Raoul, you might want to give your mages a rest. They look exhausted or dead," Eric said in a bored voice. Raoul had ordered Eric to be taken to the Dark Mountain and struck with chaotic lightning. "I keep telling you, I have the protection runes of a High Goddess. Not just any Goddess, but one of wild magic and natural chaos. This won't work, so can I go back to my cell now? I am extremely bored, even though I admit it was nice to get some fresh air! "
"You think you are so clever, don't you?" Raoul sneered.
"No, just more intelligent than you, which isn't that hard, is it? For example, I know that the war is not going well with the Gods of light. "
"That will change once we have Jamie!"
"Amon and Richard will never allow that!" Eric said confidently.
"Maybe you are right. Maybe Richard and Amon have decided to keep her locked up because he doesn't like to share. "
Eric laughed and said, "It won’t work, you know, I won’t get jealous. Mother Universe and Father Light gave her two mates for a reason. We both love her and put her happiness above our own, something you will never understand. Just for your information, I hope he does have her locked up and safe. I would go to the void itself to see her smile. So, naturally, I don't want her to come here to see your ugly arse!”
Raoul growled and walked as close as he dared to Eric. "Once the mating mark is removed, which it will be, I am going to enjoy peeling your skin inch by inch and rubbing you in rosemary salt.
"Any particular reason for Rosemary? Personally, I prefer lemon salt. It adds a certain zing to a dish, don’t you think? "
"Guards, take him back to his cell!" Raoul growled.
"What, so soon? I was just starting to enjoy our battle of wits, even if it was a one-sided one. Oh well, same time tomorrow? " Eric asked as he was being led back to his cell.
"I will tear his f*****g heart out!" Raoul roared.
"He is nothing but a bit of bait. Have patience, she is coming." The demon in his mind said.
The Sanctuary, Chaos Realm.
"So, let me get this straight. You want to go into Kyronus? Most of the time, we try and get people out of there! " Enoch said as they sat around a large wooden table. Jamie had just eaten some stew and was petting Fluff, who was purring loudly and rubbing himself against her. Tracker was curled up on the seat next to her, asleep after a big meal.
"It is almost impossible to get in as it is. Even with the six sisters' help! " Barbaous said.
"Maybe for demons, but it is much easier for hybrid demons," Iya said.
"How so?" Jamie asked, interested.
"Hybrids are despised by the Empress unless you are a human hybrid, that is. She believes it pollutes the bloodline of demons. As a result, she has brought in laws that means hybrids can not hold office, property, or marry. It is also illegal for hybrids to have children. " Enoch explained.
"That is horrendous! Father Light and Mother Universe like variety, otherwise they would not allow hybrids to be born! " Jamie said, shocked. She suddenly understood why there was such a large resistance.
"The Empress turned her face long ago from her parents." Fluff mindlink.
"It means that hybrids are treated like servants. Which can have advantages for us; we can go about our business unseen and undetected. " Enoch explained. Jamie nodded. She knew from her spy training that servants could melt into the background. "We will get you in as a slurry decanter. I hope you don't have a delicate stomach! "
"No, I have some experience of slopping out," Jamie said. Slopping out was a polite term for the emptying of the buckets that people toileted in. It would make sense that the guards would get someone else to do their dirty work, even if it meant turning a blind eye to the rules.
"Good, I will have a trusted member take you tomorrow. I am afraid you will have to go alone, we can't have your companions drawing too much attention. " Barbaous said.
I agree! Don't worry about getting us out, the Sisters will help me. " Jamie said, and there was a silence around the table. "What?"
"The sisters will extract a heavy price for any help they give!" Iya warned.
"I have already warned her," Barbaous said
"They want to take down the Empress, and the way I see it, we need all the help we can get!" Jamie said.
"Yes, but just be careful. Why don't you relax for the rest of the day? A room has been prepared for you, and I take the liberty of drawing you a hot bath. " Iya said, getting up.
"Thank you!" Jamie said as she started to follow Iya out of the lodge. Fluff followed her, but Tracker was still sleeping in the chair. His snores were very loud for a creature that small.
"Oh, before you go, remember about dinner tonight. I will be there at seven. " Barbaous said casually.
"I look forward to it!" Jamie said with a smile, hoping there was more than one room in the lodge. She should not have worried, the lodge had multiple rooms and waiting for her was a large wooden tub full of hot water.
"There are some healing herbs in the water to aid the relaxation of your muscles. Enjoy! " Iya said, and she closed the door. Jamie quickly locked the door as Fluff cast a privacy spell. Jamie undressed and slipped into the warm water as Vanth appeared in the tub opposite her. Normally she appears as a girl, but this time she was a woman.
"By the Gods, this is amazing!" Jamie moaned in pleasure as she felt her muscles relaxing,
"You can say that again! To be honest, I am surprised you are not more drained." Vanth said as Fluff jumped on a chair nearby.
"I have no idea what you are talking about!" Jamie said, trying to act innocent,
"So you are completely unaware of a large amount of power flowing between you and Eric?"
"Raoul is constantly attacking him, I can feel his power through the mate bond. Eric is strong, but not strong enough to fight Raoul and his demon off in the chaos realm. "
Vanth’s face softened and he said, "I know, and I am not here to lecture you. I am just here to warn you that you can't keep it up indefinitely. Even a goddess has limits! "
"That is what Richard is always saying," Jamie said, suddenly missing him even more than she thought possible.
"He is right, for a change!" Fluff mindlink.
"It does not matter, tomorrow I will be in the prison and I will find out what the sisters want. Once I have done that, Eric and I will head back to the mortal realm. So, shall we talk about something more interesting? " Jamie said
"Like what?" Vanth asked.
"How about your date tonight?" Jamie said as Vanth groaned loudly, making her chuckle.
