Chapter 23: Guardians Back Together

"I am sorry that it is a bit bumpy, but we are almost there," Enoch said to Jamie, who was hiding in the back of the cart with Fluff and Tracker.

"It is fine. Please don’t worry. It is safer this way and it is better than walking. " Jamie said genuinely as she saw tree branches through the holes in the tarp that covered her.

"We can’t be too careful, there are the empress's spies everywhere. Try and get some sleep, as it sounds like a hard journey in front of you. " Enoch advised.

Jamie complied and was soon asleep. As expected, she was soon in the Realm of Dreams. She was in her favourite place, the wildflower meadow she created when she was a child in her god form.

"Princess," Richard growled as he appeared in front of her. He wrapped his arms around her and crushed his lips against hers. Jamie submitted to her mate's will and surrendered her mouth. Richard moaned as he slipped his tongue into her waiting mouth.

The urge to mate consumed them and they were soon ripping off each other’s clothes. Not knowing how long they had, Richard picked her up and laid her down. 

"We missed you!" Richard's voice, thick with lust, said.

Jamie was about to reply, but Richard interrupted her. Both their souls were consumed with the fire of passion as Richard began to thrust. It was not long until Richard felt Jamie tighten around him. He bit down on her mate mark, making her scream in pleasure. She clawed at his back, sending him over the edge. Jamie felt herself being filled with his warm seed. Richard kissed her tenderly before he licked her bite mark.

"I…I needed that." Jamie admitted.

Richard chuckled as he rolled off her and led them to one side. "So did we. Now, Princess, tell me everything. I know that you reconnected with Eric, so when can we expect you both home? "

"Well, I still have to get him out. So, it might be a while yet. " Jamie said, purposely not looking into his eyes.

"And how do you plan to do that?" Richard asked.

"You know, a bit of trickery here, a splash of spycraft there...

"Jamie…" Richard growled.

Jamie sighed and said, "fine, but you are not going to like it and you have to promise not to be mad!"

"Why is it when you say that, I know for definite I am going to be!"

"I struck a deal with the sisters of sin. They will help me get Eric out, if... "Jamie explained 

"If what?"

"I get the chaotic configuration."

"Are you insane or just chaotically stupid?" Richard roared as his eyes turned black, a sign that Amon was not happy.

"It will be fine!"

"Fine? Fine? The chaotic configuration is hidden in a labyrinth from which no one has come out alive! Even if you get it, do you know what could happen if the empress got her hands on it? She could imprison your parents and most of the Gods of light. She could change the course of the war! " Amon growled.

"I won’t let that happen. Please, trust me, Richard and Amon." Jamie said softly.

"We can’t lose you!" Amon said as he fully took over. He was kissing and nibbling on her mate mark, something he did when he wanted some reassurance from his mate.

And you won’t. But you must stop giving Richard a hard time. I know you are, and he needs his energy. You both do. Promise me, Amon!" Jamie said 

"I need to protect you!" Amon protested.

"And I need you to protect Richard. Without him, I would …I would.." Jamie said, not sure what she would do. Amon nodded. "Good, now let’s not waste the precious time we have!" 

Jamie woke up when the cart went over a bump. Not that it mattered, she managed to calm Amon and Richard down. 

"Had a nice dream?" Fluff mind-linked.

"She sure did!" Vanth said 

"We are here!" Enoch said as the cart stopped and he removed the cover. 

 Jamie heard excited barking and was assaulted by a white nose. "Wildsoul and Amaethon, it is good to see you, my dear friends!"

"As it is you. We have missed you! " Windsoul said, nuzzling her.

"Yes, we are ready for a proper adventure!"  Amaethon said as he was dancing around as Jamie got out of the cart. 

"Yes, it has been ages since we had an adventure, just the four of us," Windsoul said.

"Well, unfortunately, it won’t be just the four of us. We got a tag along. " Fluff said as he touched noses with the other Guardians.

"Oh yes! Before I forget, this is a Tracker." Jamie said.

"An Ichneumon!"  Amaethon growled.

"A fallen one!" Windsoul neighed in disgust.

"So dramatic! Like all animal gods of light are! " Tracker sneered.

"A fallen one? What are you talking about? "

"Ichneumons' betrayed the Moon Goddess in the last great war. They were banished and have been known as treacherous, glorified weasels ever since. "Fluff said as he jumped up on Windsoul’s back.

."Thank you very much, Enoch. I will not forget your kindness. I think we should get going, " Jamie said as she jumped on Windsoul’s back. 

"Help bring down the Empress and it will be us that owe you!" Enoch said as he threw up a bag. "A few supplies to help you. Good luck, Moonchild."

Windsoul started to trot forward when there was a protest from Tracker. "Hey, aren’t you going to let me come up and ride with you?"

"I will not let your filthy paws anywhere near my back!" Windsoul said, snorting and shaking her head.

"Surely it is not up to her, but you as her owner," Tracker said. Windsoul, enraged, stopped mid trot and waited till Tracker was behind her. She then kicked Tracker hard. Tracker went flying into the woods as Windsoul snorted in satisfaction before walking on. Amaethon and fluff tried to hide their laughter as Jamie sighed.

"He did deserve that!" Vanth said.

"Still, it would be good for everyone to get along." 

"I would not hold your breath. Animal Gods hate Ichneumons. " Vanth pointed out.

"Well, there is no reason to hate Tracker. He cannot bear the sins of his fathers, it is not fair. " 

"Hate is never logical." Vanth said.

Tracker eventually caught up with him and decided to walk away. Jamie chose to ignore the fact that Amaethon snapped his jaws at Tracker if he got too close to Windsoul. "What is that?" Jamie asked as she saw a green glow in the distance. 

"That is the Sea of Lost Souls. Let’s hope the boatman is in a good mood! " Tracker stated glumly.
