Chapter Six Dimitri walked through the darkened corridor, heading for the stairs that led back down to his apartments. He and Sergei had spent the last several hours drinking fine brandy. They had discussed their latest project and the issue in Los Angeles. Both of them had avoided the topic of the statue, the effect it had on them, and their impulsive wish. He could feel the warmth of the superb brandy coursing through his blood as he headed down the stairs. Even though he had consumed more than his normal limit, he was far from being drunk. Life had shown him how dangerous it was to allow liquor to cloud his mind enough that it impaired his thoughts. He stepped lightly, not making any sound out of habit. He was familiar enough with the route that he didn’t need any additional lighting
