CHAPTER TWO

1018 Words
Tara was speechless. Aiden was just complaining about being tired to her and not wanting to listen to anything, but now he’s offering to talk to Ember at this time of night. Tara was shocked, as Aiden took Ember’s hand and led her to the balcony. The thought of eavesdropping on their conversation came to Tara, but she decided not to. The following morning, Tara woke up with a headache. She had manage to sleep for some few hours, but her head was banging. She noticed Aiden wasn’t beside her on the bed, and she thought he had woken up early to do something important. After washing her face, Tara decided to go to Ember’s room to check how she was doing, especially after what happened last night. She forgot to knock as she pushed the door of Ember’s room open. Tara couldn’t believe her eyes. Aiden was there in Ember’s room, sleeping on the same bed with her. The both of them were asleep and they didn’t know someone else had entered the room. Tara was frozen, she couldn’t bring herself to move. When she finally did, Tara left the room and closed the door quietly, trying as much as she could, not to make any sound that would wake them up. She initially planned to sit in Ember’s room, and wait for them to wake up, so she would demand answers. But she changed her mind. She didn’t have the energy for drama that morning, and her head ached badly too. Tara went to the kitchen to fix breakfast and also find a medicine or something she could use for her headache. The thought of what she had just seen would not leave her. How did they end up sleeping on the same bed? Tara asked herself, as she started boiling some water to make coffee. Did they……..? Tara asked herself again as her thoughts continued to spiral. She could bear the thought of the possibility of the second question. She had wondered why Aiden had gotten up that early, only to see him in Ember’s room. Tara concluded to confront him about it. If that doesn’t make him give her answers, she does not know what will, she thought. Just then, Aiden and Ember entered the kitchen. They had both just woken up and came for breakfast. “Good morning” Tara said referring to the both of them, not taking her eyes and attention away from the table she was setting. “Good morning Tara” Ember replied her. Tara waited for Aiden to say something, but he didn’t. “How are you?” Tara asked, this time, showing concern and turning her attention to Ember. “I’m holding up” Ember said “Thanks to Aiden” she added, looking at Aiden who was smiling at her. Those words hurt Tara, but she didn’t flinch, as she served the both of them with what she had prepared for breakfast. They were still not aware that Tara had been in Ember’s room earlier. “Could you please pass the coffee?” Ember said, as she stretched her hand to collect the jug from Tara. Tara couldn’t believe what happened next. Ember cried out, some of the hot coffee had spilled on her arm. She made the coffee spill on her arm intentionally, but wanted to seem like it was Tara who did it, making her look bad in the process. “My arm!” she cried out again “Tara, how could you?” she continued. Tara was dumbfounded, she couldn’t say a word. It all look like a bad movie or a weird dream. “What’s your problem?” Aiden thundered. His words shook Tara. It was really happening, she thought. It wasn’t a dream. “What did she do to deserve this from you?” Aiden shouted again, as she tried to help Ember clean up. He wasn’t even looking when it happened. Tara tried to explain herself, but as she opened her mouth to speak, nothing came out. Ember was still sobbing, while Aiden tried to console her. Tara stood there confused, she still didn’t understand what had just happened. She angrily stormed out of the dining area, heading to her room. She needed to make some sense out of what just happened. As she stormed out, Aiden followed her. He left Ember in the care of the maids. He wanted to know why Tyra did what she did. Tara entered her room and sat on the bed. In a few second, Aiden barged in. “What’s the matter with you? Are you under a curse or something? What would make you hurt that poor lady?” Aiden fired at Tara in quick succession, without giving her a chance to answer. Tara still couldn’t talk. She still could not understand why Ember would pull such a trick. Plus, she didn’t have energy for any drama, her head still ached terribly. “After all she’s been through, is this how you treat her?” Aiden thundered again. He was already getting annoyed by Tara’s silence. “I have nothing to do with this” Tara said gently as she looked at Aiden with a puzzled look on her face. She was amazed that Aiden could believe she did something like that on purpose, without asking for her side of the story. “How can you believe that I did something like that” Tara continued. She was disappointed and hurt that Aiden could believe she really did it. “You liar” Aiden replied her, growling and looking at her with disgust. “You’re lucky she’s not badly wounded” he added, turning to leave the room. “What were you doing on her bed this morning? I saw you sleeping on her bed Aiden, why were you there?” Tara shouted after Aiden as he made to leave the room. She wanted to seize this opportunity to have a conversation with Aiden. “What did you just say?” Aiden said, as he turned back to face Tara. He was surprised.
