2. Mother's Secret

Rosabella-

The day has come faster than I would like. The whole castle is filled with chatters and feet thumping from place to place as maids run around from one place to the other. Needless to say, I'm not excited about all this but I have to do it. I have to get married tomorrow. There is nothing that can stop it now. But there is nothing or no one who can prove that I'm not capable of taking care of my Kingdom as well. 

Today, Alpha King Dargan would arrive and tonight is a great feast regarding his arrival. After tonight, our marriage ceremony would be held tomorrow and I'll leave this place with my husband. I won't attend the feast though. It is believed that the groom has to stay away from the bride for the last four days before the marriage to prevent any bad luck. In other cases, they have already met their partners who are their fated partners, but we have not even seen each other in our case.

I think it's my fate even. My both parents are werewolves and also fated partners. Though I have never seen my mother's wolf ever. It is to be kept a secret for her safety I guess, or my father is probably too possessive. Despite them both being werewolves, I do not have a wolf. I think that is the reason why Agassi thought that I won't be a good enough ruler. It hurts that my father thought so too, and they are using my safety as the reason. 

All these years, I have trained myself in being the best female warrior and still, I'm not given a chance to prove myself. Nothing can happen now though because it is already time for me to leave this place and the people here. My soon-to-be husband will be here soon and then I'll leave from here. I don't understand one thing though. According to some people, when I'm not suitable to rule the Mighty Moon Kingdom, how can I rule beside the ruler of the most powerful Kingdom? Or is he going to disregard me as well?

I don't think so though. After the day I had talked to my father in his chamber, I realized whom I was getting married to once I was back to my own chamber. I was shocked because the man is the most powerful to be ever walked on the land. He had defeated the former Alpha King, Louis Azganati in his mortal form! To be honest he has been an inspiration to me. I always trained hard because I had that confidence. He proved that even in your human form, you can beat anyone. I have never met him, I have never seen him, but I have always admired him. Another interesting fact, no one has ever witnessed his wolf as well. I wonder if he would allow me to see him in his wolf form. I also wonder what made him marry me. 

I know one thing though, that it is not just the decision of his own. Alpha Dargan respects his mother the most, so much so that he never discloses her identity. She is just like his wolf... unknown to the people's eyes. So much so, she won't be attending her son's wedding as well.

"Rose, Alpha King Dargan has arrived at the castle. Luna Leena has sent me here to remind you to stay in your chambers for he can be taking a stroll anywhere and see your face." Nina, my helper, best friend says. She is the daughter of Aunt Miriam who helps my mother. We both are of the same age and she is the only girl I've been around. We grew up together because Aunt Miriam couldn't just leave her at their house alone as her husband had a job too. My mother likes her, so she asked her to bring Nina along with her, which caused us to get this close. 

She is the only one who calls me by my name after so many pleadings from my side. Aunt Miriam taught her to regard me as Princess once she caught her calling me by my name while we were playing, and it took a few days for me to persuade her and her mother to stop that. Aunt Miriam still works on her own principles but I'm happy that I could persuade Nina.

Since she is the only friend I have ever had, I want to take her along with me after marriage. I'm sure my wish would be granted. 

"I know Nina. I cannot see his face until tomorrow, and honestly, I'm not interested because I'll soon be his wife but at the same time, I'm interested because I really admire his strength." I tell her honestly.

"Yes, I'm aware." She says and silence settles in between us. She keeps her gaze fixed at me with a soft smile before coming closer and holding my both palms resting on top of each other.

"You are going to be the Queen, Rose. That's a huge responsibility but I know you'll be the best! And you are so beautiful! Alpha Dargan doesn't even have an idea what's going to hit him! Hehehe..." She giggles cutely making me smile before she stops with tears glistening in her eyes. I frown seeing the tears before she speaks up, "I'll miss you. I don't know what I will do without you. Already many of the maids here dislike me because I'm close to you. Phew!" She says dramatically and I smile mischievously at her. She backs away seeing the expression on my face.

"What is that expression? What are you thinking about?" She asks me.

"Well, nothing much. I’m just imagining our stay in another Kingdom." I shrug.

"What?!" She exclaims.

"You are coming with me!" I exclaim before laughing. I love seeing her scared face. She is a sweetheart, always thinking about the troubles we would get in if we do something inappropriate, but this isn't bad. I want her with me and I'll have her with me. 

"No, Rose! Mother would never agree!" She says but I shake my head.

"She'll agree. Don't you know how keen she is on following her principles? And whenever you feel like meeting her, you can come here. That is only if you want to come with me. In the end, it's your decision." I say and she smiles. She agrees before both of us hug each other and she leaves to do some work. I don't want her to but Aunt Miriam can be very strict.

It's time already. I'm sure the feast probably might have started while I'm here alone. What's more, I can't even eat anything from the feast, and tomorrow for the whole day, I'll have to remain empty stomach until I become Alpha Dargan's wife and he makes me eat the food from his hands first.

Probably he'd find this tradition uncommon. I wonder if he'd actually deny doing so because both, the groom and the bride have to remain without eating anything or drinking anything. I do admire him for his strength but there is no saying against his word. His sentence is a sentence carved on a rock. No one can go against it and nothing can erase it. You better think a hundred times before trying to mess with him. I've heard that he has very special tricks to kill people and nobody comes out of the torture chamber he has once they have gone inside. He screams of authority and teenagers pee in their pants upon seeing him. The girls are scared, keeping their drools in their mouths. That's just what I've heard.

There are many rules even, he has set for his Kingdom to keep them disciplined and also well prepared for any attack. After thinking about all this, probably Agassi wants me to be his wife to have a good relationship with him. That explains a lot.

"Princess Rosabella, Luna Leena is here to meet you." One of the helpers informs me before my mother comes inside my chamber in a very beautiful diamond-encrusted dress. 

I get up and do a little greeting while bowing but she hugs me.

"Rose..." She says when we pull away.

"It's okay, mother," I say not wanting to make her feel bad. 

"Rose, come here." She says and we move to my bed. She makes me sit before taking her place beside me gracefully. She takes my hands in hers and caresses them with her soft slender fingers while gazing at them.

"You know when your father and I had decided to spend our lives together for eternity. He had decided then and there that I won't come in my wolf form ever in front of the world's eyes. It was a decision he took after consulting with Winston." She says and I frown hearing his name.

"Why, mother? I know I shouldn't ask this because none is allowed, but why did father decide something like that?" I ask her.

"It is because I do not have any wolf, Rose. I'm telling you this and promise me you won't ask me any more questions. I have already overstepped giving you this information but I hope this little secret would bring us closer before you leave this palace tomorrow." She says as I stare at her.

She doesn't have a wolf? But how is that possible? Wait... is that why I don't have a wolf? 

After all, it is not just me who is an unknown existence in this world. I don't have any kind. I'm a different species according to everyone. This world consists of kingdoms. Kingdoms of wolves and I'm of a different kind. I wonder if Alpha Dargan knows this. I know for one thing that I have earned the respect of the people here because I'm the best female warrior.

"My child, I know you don't approve of what is happening but believe your mother, there are several things far more dangerous than just wars between two kingdoms. There are things that are unbelievable in the time we are living but they are real. Look, I and your father only want you to lead a happy and comfortable life. I'm certain you'll be treated like the queen you are once you get married to the Alpha King Dargan and no one would dare harm you. Besides, ruling a Kingdom and taking all the stress can be very hard. With him beside you, it'll be so easy. 

We just want you happy, please give it a try. If you leave the place with sadness in your eyes despite the smile on your lips, it'll be very depressing for me as well as your father." She says and I get her point. They want me to be happy and I'll find a way through which both of them and I can be happy. 

"I get it, mother," I say and after wishing me good luck for the beginning of a new chapter of my life, she leaves to attend the feast. 

It's evening already and I plan to go and sweat a little when it gets a little dark. Everybody would be busy with the feast and I'll get some time to clear my mind through training and draining my energy. Then I can eat!
