Wishing the others a good night, I step outside the chill evening light. The first guard shift is my shift tonight. We usually have two guards posted outside during the sleeping hours, but not tonight. Since Lauren is not to be trusted right now, we are one person down, and we chose to compensate with one man alone for the first shift every second night.
I settle next to the entrance knowing I will not have guard duty tomorrow night because I have a mission. We decided to contact the close-by village in the morning. Sondra, Seb and I will go. I was chosen partly to let me get out of the cave a little, being stuck here for so long.
