Four months after being recruited to this very necessary mission, Emma stood before the Portal. Behind her were the soldiers and scientists who had volunteered to take this step with her—people she’d worked and trained with for the past four months—and beside her was John Berger. Lean and rangy, with dark hair and surprisingly green eyes, it was easy to see why women fell for him.
She’d come to know him a little better in that time, enough to accept that in spite of his reputation for being a wildcard, he was an excellent leader who cared for the men and women under his command, to the point where he would risk all to see none of them was left behind.
