Asher’s P.O.V.
The first time I met her was one week ago.
I was back from a hunt near the countryside and my men were resting near the lake circling the fire.
For a night in November in old England, it was pretty cold. I was shivering, trying to keep myself warm with the fire in front of me.
“Lord, Do you need a pair of clothes? You seem to be shivering in the cold,” My beta asked, sitting beside me.
He had served me for over 2 years since I became the Alpha, and had been with me since I was little. I consider him one of my best friends whom I can trust with my eyes closed.
“No, it’s alright,” I replied, turning to the fire.
“It is a bit cold, but I can manage.”
“See if the others need anything. They are also cold like me.”
My beta sighs in assurance.
“That is just like you.”
Silence surrounded us once again.
Out of nowhere, I heard the sound of a branch snapping quite close to us.
No one has noticed it yet. So, I got up on my feet.
My beta gave me a puzzled look. “Is anything the matter?”.
I nod at him. “Come with me. But don’t let anyone notice it.”
He understood right away what I was trying to say.
We both approached the thick forest and the bushes from where the sounds came from.
I approached it with caution, as there might be some wild animals waiting to attack us.
My beta and two men were behind me, ready to support us.
I was approaching it with my sword in hand.
I walked past the bushes, and my heart started racing out of nervousness.
Only to see a figure lying in the darkness.
I dropped my sword out of shock.
My beta came after me. “Lord! What happened?”.
I go over to the side of the person lying down facing on the ground.
It was a girl. She had long golden hair covered in mud and dirt.
Her clothes seemed all torn and damaged filled with blood spots all over.
“It’s a girl,” I said, glancing at my Beta.
“A girl?”.
“In this forest?”.
“I don’t know. But, she seems injured.”
I flipped her over gently and picked her up in my arms.
She had a beautiful face, covered in dirt and mud. Her arms were bruised, and so were her legs. Her one leg was bleeding.
It seemed to be a deep cut.
She was barefoot with clothes torn like that.
Her body was freezing in the cold, and her lips seemed dry.
“Let’s take her to the fireplace,” I said, picking her up in my arms, and getting up on my feet.
My beta nodded and followed with the rest of my men.
I placed her down on the ground gently next to the fireplace.
“Noah, bring a torn cloth or something. Her right leg keeps bleeding.” I instructed my beta.
“Right away!”.
I went closer to her mouth to check her breathing.
She was breathing very faintly.
Noah came back and handed me the piece of clothing.
I tore it apart and bandaged her wound on the leg.
“But, what is a young girl like her doing in this place?” Noah asked, sitting down next to me.
“Maybe she was chased by someone,” I replied, watching her breathe normally.
“Rogues?” one of my men comments.
“Probably, who knows?”.
“Are we going to abandon her here to die on her own?” Noah asked. His face seemed to be full of concern and sympathy for this girl.
I looked back at her. She seemed to be in quite pain.
“Noah, prepare the horse. We are leaving for our packhouse.” I said, picking up the girl in my arms.
“Right away? We were supposed to depart in the morning.”
“Change of plans,” I added.
Noah got our horses ready, and I got on the horse with the girl in my arms and left the forest.
We reached the packhouse in the early dawn.
Noah called the maids and they brought her to a room and started treating her wounds. I called the pack doctor to have a check on her.
“Lord, take some rest. You haven’t slept all night,” Noah said glancing at me.
I stood right outside her room.
“Nor did you, Noah.”
“Yes, I can take care of the situation here. You can go ahead and take some rest. The doctor is here. You can trust Misha.”
“Not yet.”
“Until I hear some information about her well-being.”
“I had saved her, so it falls under my duty.”
“You go and take some rest. The men who came back all went to take rest as well.”
“I’m not going,” Noah said stubbornly. “It falls under my duty to look after your well-being as well.”
“I’m staying with you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his comment. Certainly, he’s my best friend, not just my beta.
Half an hour later.
Misha came out of the door. And seeing me, she became surprised.
“Ash? Why are you here?” she asked in a quirky tone.
Noah narrowed his eyes in her direction. “You are being rude! Call him with respect.” He retorted.
Misha became startled and lowered her gaze. “Sorry about that. I just got used to this habit of calling him by his name that I…”.
“Sorry.”
I heave a sigh in response. “No need to worry about that. I don’t mind.”
“So, how’s her condition?”.
“Will she survive?”.
Misha raised her head, nodding at me.
“Yes.”
“But, she is wounded here and there.”
“God knows who did that to her. But she surely looks pitiful.”
“her feet are pricked with thorns. I had a hard time getting all of them out.”
“She was running barefoot for a couple of days it seems.”
“And what about her leg?” I asked.
“Hm…you bandaged it, so it’s not that worrying. I cleared it and treated it well.”
“She’ll probably recover within 1 week from what I can tell.”
“Is she a normal human?” Noah asked.
“Hm….that’s quite difficult to say,” Misha replied with a little laugh. “She smells like a werewolf, I’m sure.”
“But, her wounds aren’t healing fast like us.”
“Maybe she’s not a pureblood werewolf, but a hybrid between human and wolf.”
“Can I go and see her?” I asked without any thought.
Misha gave a surprised look at me. “You want to?”.
“Yeah.”
“Well….sure if you want to. Just don’t talk to her. She needs some rest and proper food. She looks thin and doesn’t seem to have eaten anything for days.”
“No wonder she collapsed.”
“Sure, I’ll keep it in mind,” I said. “Noah, you can go.”
“Misha, thanks for your help.”
She smiled at me. “It’s nothing much. I’m happy to help.”
“And I’ll come back in the evening to check up on her. Make sure to tell them to feed her medicines on time.”
“Sure.”
