Alena’s P.O.V
I was standing outside Diamond records offices, the actual Recording studio was somewhere else, this was their main base though. My portfolio against my chest. I was trying to find the courage to head inside. I had decided I couldn’t let this opportunity go. If I don’t get it, that is OK. At least I know I tried right? I had let Natalie know this morning that I would come by. She seemed very excited about it. I, however, was a nervous wreck. I gave myself a pep talk in my head, taking a deep breath before heading into the building. I headed over to the reception desk.
“Hello, my name is Alena Torres. I have a meeting with Ms James?” I smiled.
“Oh yes, she said to expect you. I will call up and let her know.” She smiled.
“Thank you,” I smiled back.
She made a call, talking for a moment before pointing me in the right direction of where I was going. I thanked her, heading up to the second floor. Natalie was waiting for me when I got there.
“Alena, I am so happy you decided to come in.” she gushed
“Thank you for the opportunity. I realised I could not miss an opportunity like this.” I smiled.
“I am glad you realised that. Come on through.” She smiled.
She led me into a conference room, telling me to take a seat.
“We are waiting for someone else. He is late. Would you like a coffee while you wait?” she smiled, “I am going to make myself one anyway.” She added.
“A coffee would be great, thank you.” I smiled.
I wondered who else we were waiting for. She made us both a coffee, sitting across from me.
“Can I have a look at your portfolio while we wait. His timekeeping is terrible.” She said.
I smiled, sliding the portfolio across to her. I sat nervously as she looked at them, sipping on my coffee.
“These are amazing, Alena. Beautiful.” She said looking up at me.
I thanked her, blushing a little. A silence fell between us as she continued looking through it.
“Natalie, there better be a good reason why you dragged me out of bed to come here.” I hear a male voice say, sounding annoyed.
I look up and nearly fall out my damn chair when I saw who the voice belonged too. I swallowed hard, my lady parts going strange. I have never seen such a beautiful man. He must have been close to six feet tall. He had dark thick hair, the dark eyes to match. He has some stumble on his face. I moved my eyes down, looking him over. You can tell he works out too. He was dressed in a pair of jeans and a tight black tee, that showed every muscle. I found myself gripping onto the edge of the table. I did pull myself together after a minute, realising who he was. Ryker King, one of the biggest musicians in the world, had been for at least the last ten years.
“Drag you out of bed? It is one P.M. Ryker. You were meant to be here an hour ago.” Natalie said sternly.
“Well, I never exactly got much sleep last night. If you know what I mean?” he said smirking “I had company, I had to make sure she was satisfied before I told her to leave.” He added shrugging.
He had a reputation for being a lady’s man. The sort of guy I try to avoid but I couldn’t help but be attracted to him.
“I do not need to know about your s*x life.” She said rolling her eyes, “Now sit your ass down.” She added.
“Yes mam,” he said rolling his eyes.
He looked up, his eyes falling on me for the first time since he came in.
“Hmm, and who is this?” he said licking as his lips.
“Do not even think about Ryker or I swear to God. I am fed up of women quitting because of you and your need to sleep with anything in a skirt. I will make your team all-male.” She said.
“I never said anything,” he whined like a child, sitting down.
“You don’t need to. I know you.” Natalie said.
He rested back on his chair, watching me. I tried my best to avoid full-on eye contact with him. It was hard to do when I could feel his eyes burning into me.
“So, who are you?” he asked
“Alena, I am here for an interview for the tour photographer position,” I said sitting up straight.
“I have never even heard of you.” He said bluntly.
“Well, she is amazing.” Natalie smiled, sliding the folder to him.
He looked through it, more like browsed through it. He never seemed that interested, to be honest.
“They are alright I guess,” he shrugged.
Alright? That isn’t a good sign. I am guessing he is the one I will be working with if I was to get this job. If he doesn’t like them, then what chance do I really have? I slouched down on the chair a little when he said that.
“Alena, do not listen to him OK? He has no idea what he is talking about. He is just being an asshole.” Natalie said, glaring at him again.
I had a feeling Natalie was one of the very few women that have no problem putting Ryker in his place. He actually seems a little scared of her. I don’t think she would take any rubbish off him. Guess you need to be that way in this sort of job.
“Then why am I even here? If I don’t know what I am talking about? Can I go? I have better things to do with my time.” He said annoyed.
“No. You will stay here until I say otherwise OK? There is a very high chance Alena will be joining us on this world tour. You can take five darn minutes out of your day to get to know her a little.” She said, “Stop acting like a rude jackass.” She added.
Oh my, I don’t think I would like to get on the wrong side of her. I hear him mutter under his breath, slouching in the chair. I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing.
“Are you single? Do you have kids? Any commitments? Cause if you have any of them you may as well walk away right now. Cause this job won’t work if you do. We spend more time on the road than at home.” He said bluntly.
Getting straight to the point I see?
“No, to all of your questions,” I said,
“Hmm, interesting…” he said tapping his fingers against the table.
Why is that interesting? I raised a brow at him. He smirked, shrugged and never said anything to follow on after that.
“Ryker is right about one thing. With this world tour, we will be on the road for at least seven months of the year.” Natalie said, “Could you handle being away from home that long? We will have days off here and there but once we get to the UK, Europe and other places there isn’t going to be much of a chance to get back to L.A.” She added.
That was a long time to be away, but I don’t really have anything much here anyway.
“Yes, I could handle that.” I smiled.
“We will see, won’t we?” he said “I am out of here. See you soon Alena.” He added winking at me before rushing out.
Natalie sighed, shaking her head. I think she must need to put up with a lot from him. The woman deserves a medal or something.
“I apologise for him. It is just how he is. He never had the best start in life.” She said, “Anyway, the job is yours if you want it?” she added smiling.
“Really? That quick?” I asked surprised,
“Yes. You are perfect for this job. What do you think? Will you take it?” she asked hopefully.
I smiled widely, nodding. Her smile growing when I said that.
“Fantastic! Come by tomorrow, we will go through the contract. Your pay, all the important things.” She smiled.
We chatted for a little while before I headed out. I made sure to thank her before leaving. I can’t believe I got the job! This was going to be amazing. Even if I do need to deal with Ryker. I was excited about this new adventure. I needed it.
