The three alien bodies were ejected from the hatch just before the sublight engines were engaged. The Helix began to move away rapidly from where it had been drifting for the past two days.
Seated in the copilot’s seat, Nick watched the dead bodies on the screen as they gradually became smaller and smaller, finally disappearing in the blackness too small to make out.
Next to him in the pilot’s seat, Gears was busily checking ship’s systems on the screens in front of him as they gradually increased speed. The Helix would be cruising at three-quarters light speed until they made the jump.
